Consul General of India in Toronto, Shri Dinesh Bhatia attended the International Students Seminar and Networking event, organized by BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir on March 31, 2018. He addressed and interacted with over 800 Indian students at the Seminar and also briefed them about various consular services and MADAD portal of the Ministry of External Affiars, Govt. of India. The event was also graced by Hon. Ahmed D. Hussen, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Canada.

Consul (Commerce), Shri Saifullah Khan participated in a seminar on Global Market Trends – Building capacities and growing our markets at home and abroad organised by Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce. The key speaker at the Seminar was Mr. Athar Haidar Shah, MBA and. Sector Specialist: Bakery, Cereal and Milling. Mr. Shah also works for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA)

Hon. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Grand Finale of the Smart India Hackathon via video conferencing on March 30, 2018. Smart India Hackathon was a two-day national event that was held in 28 colleges across the country. It is a unique initiative to identify new and disruptive digital technology innovations for solving challenges faced by our country. In his address, the Prime Minister underlined the importance of Participative Governance to the participants of the Smart India Hackathon-2018. He expressed his utmost hope in youngsters and urged then to contribute towards achieving the vision of New India. I am happy to see young minds thinking about ways to take our nation forward. It is a delight to be among smart innovators of smart India,” he added.

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its ex-post approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India India and Canada. The MoU was signed on 23rd February, 2018 to establish bilateral cooperation activities in the field of Intellectual Property (IP). The MoU is intended to promote innovation, creativity and economic growth in both countries. The MoU establishes a broad and flexible framework through which both countries can exchange best practices and work together on training programs and technical exchanges to raise awareness on IPRs and better protect intellectual property rights (IPRs). As part of the SOI, SAP in 2018 will adopt 100 Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) for five years to nurture the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning among secondary school children across India. Acknowledging the importance of such collaborations, Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, said, “India’s growth for the next few decades will depend on the innovations coming out of these tinkering labs. To this end, it identifies 10 specific domains for rapid AI incorporation: manufacturing, fintech, health, agriculture, technology for the differently abled, national security, environment, public utility services, retail and education. 3,21,567 Affordable Houses sanctioned for Urban Poor under PMAY(Urban) https://www.ibef.org/news/321567-affordable-houses-sanctioned-for-urban-poor-under-pmayurban Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has approved the construction of 3,21,567 more affordable houses for the benefit of urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) with an investment of Rs. 18,203 cr with central assistance of Rs. 4,752 cr. The approval was given in the 32nd meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee in its meeting held here last evening.
