Customer Trend #1 : Mobile Device Performance
Audio Quality Experience
Smart phones require
– High acoustical output
– Small form factor
– However, conflicting demands for loudspeaker
Problem
– Loudspeaker damaged when used beyond its safe physical limits
Need Push loudspeaker to its limits amd PROTECT against damage:
– Push to achieve maximal acoustical output
– Protect mechanically: diaphragm displacement (excursion) from reaching its
max limit
– Protect thermally: temperature of voice coil from reaching its max limit
Solution : Sensor
– Prediction of excursion
– Estimation of LS temp

COMPANY INTERNAL
Drive NFC VHBR to 27Mbps
Two main practical applications:
eGov (e-passports for security) – Trend to increase amount of stored (biometric) data
– Currently very long read and write times (up to 10 s)
– Much Shorter read times allow ePassport gates
19
NFC – Transfer large blocks of data (e.g. synchronization of phone & PC)
– Peer 2 peer file exchange on-the-go
COMPANY INTERNAL 20
Objectives : Drive NFC to VHBR Increase the data rate of 13.56 MHz inductively coupled systems
greater 848kbps to 27Mbps
Introduce new modulation scheme capable of transferring both – Power
– Very High data rates
Analog front end – Power harvesting
– Demodulation
Digital signal processor – Equalization and Bit recovery
Low cost , low power consumption (For smart Card)
Drive VHBR for ISO standard to acceptance
COMPANY INTERNAL 21
Inductive coupling
Card usually passive (powered by magnetic field)
Reader Card: direct modulation of magnetic field
– TYPE A at 100% , TYPE B at 10% Amplitude
Modulation (ASK)
Card Reader: load modulation (10% , BPSK, NRZ-L)
L/HDR : 106K, 212, 424, 848Kbps
VHDR : 1.6M,3.2M,6.7M
Fc : 13.56 MHz

Multiple amplitude and PSK Modulation
No carrier – Large reduction of
energy compared to

Carrier added – Improved energy transfer – Much easier to lock a PLL to
Smaller PSK angle calls for more stringent noise specs
Impairment : Resonator in reader causes severe Inter-Symbol Interference
– It can be equalized at BB processing
