Our Community Grantmaking program fuels

nonprofi ts working to make a positive diff erence

in the communities of Onondaga and Madison

counties. We support innovative and sustainable

programs across a wide array of community

interests and issues.

Our community’s strength lies in its diversity.

We commit our resources in ways that signal to

groups with diverse cultures, philosophies and

experiences that they are welcome and necessary

partners in our eff orts to foster a thriving CNY.

Before he died in 1992, Brannock generously included a charitable provision in his will

establishing the Charles F. Brannock Fund so that its earnings would always be available to meet

Central New York’s changing needs. A visionary in charitable giving as in business, Brannock

had the foresight to know that the resources he accumulated over his lifetime could benefi t the

community where he made his living for generations to come. Since the fund was established

in 1992, grants have been made to local nonprofi ts touching almost every part of community

life. Designed for fl exibility and change, this named community fund has supported more than

320 diverse grants to the community in the areas of human services, historic preservation,

education, arts and culture, animal welfare and more.

In keeping with his original vision, Brannock’s legacy gift will support community needs in

perpetuity. Established as a permanent endowment and invested over time, a percentage of the

fund’s value is used annually to make grants while the original gift continues to grow. Through

the power of endowment, gifts can grow exponentially. By year 50, Brannock’s community fund

will have tripled in size and it will have granted to the community more than three times its

original fund value.

Knowing grant dollars alone cannot address our

community’s complex challenges, we work with

community partners to identify areas of particular

need and carry out initiatives designed to

strengthen our region’s nonprofi t sector and help

our community thrive.

We work better when we work together. We are

able to leverage resources and achieve ambitious

goals by working together with government,

community leaders and local nonprofi ts.

By harnessing the collective generosity of our

Community Fund donors, we are empowered to

maximize our community impact. We use local

data, research and community expertise to direct

your charitable dollars where they are most

needed and will be most eff ective.

Community Funds are designed for permanence.

generosity and individual legacies of our visionary

IN 1927, CHARLES F. BRANNOCK DEVELOPED THE “BRANNOCK FOOT MEASURING DEVICE,” WHICH BECAME THE INDUSTRY STANDARD ALMOST OVERNIGHT, REVOLUTIONIZING THE RETAIL SHOE BUSINESS.

WHETHER YOU PREFER ANONYMITY OR WISH TO SUSTAIN A COMMUNITY LEGACY; HAVE THE CAPACITY TO GIVE NOW OR PLAN TO MAKE A FUTURE GIFT, COMMUNITY FUNDS AFFORD A RANGE OF FLEXIBLE GIVING OPTIONS.

You have the fl exibility to choose how you are remembered for your generosity. You

may make an outright gift to our general Community Fund or create a separately named

community fund to honor your family or memorialize loved ones. No matter your

preference, you can rest assured that your gift will join others to support the community’s

greatest needs and opportunities.

The Community Foundation makes it easy for you to give. To create a community fund

during your lifetime, you may utilize cash, stock, real estate or other assets and qualify

for an immediate tax deduction. Additional gifts, including bequests and others deferred

until a later date, may be made to the Community Foundation at any time. Because our

community funds are endowed, they ensure we will have fl exible resources to benefi t the

community in perpetuity.

The Community Foundation has a long history of stewardship and philanthropic

experience. Our staff understands the breadth of issues and needs facing our community

and is available as a resource for charitable planning and partnership.
