THEY CAN BE DELIVERED TO THE OFFICE OR STAGE 2 TEACHERS Dear Parents/Caregivers, Welcome to Week 4! On Tuesday, Mr Garlick and I accompanied our school leaders to Bathurst for the GRIP Leadership conference. This conference is aimed specifically at primary school student leaders. Our Year 6’s had a fun-filled day learning about lots of different leadership skills and discussed some great ideas that they can bring back to our school. The stop at Annie’s ice cream parlour on the way home was of course, also a huge hit! On the same day, our public speakers; Holly Fagan, Samantha Van Zyl, Lorissa Wood and Samson Miller travelled to Bathurst to participate in the regional CWA Public Speaking competition and gave their best efforts in what is always a very tough competition. Special congratulations goes to Samantha Van Zyl who was awarded a Highly Commended for her speech ‘I found a note under my pillow’. Well done to all students who participated in both events and proudly represented our school. On the sporting front, I warmly congratulate Mason Bright who this week competed in the NSW PSSA State AFL competition, following his selection in the Western Region team last term. This is a huge achievement for Mason and we are very proud of his skill level and commitment to this sport. Our Netball girls were successful in progressing to the second round of the PSSA Knockout defeating Canowindra PS on Tuesday. Today they are contesting the next rounds of the knockout in Orange and we wish them all the best! On Friday our District Cross Country runners will head to Edgell Park to race against students from Grenfell, Canowindra, Mulyan, Boorowa and the Cowra Small Schools’ for a place in the Western Region Cross Country carnival. A huge thank you once again to our teachers who spend so much of their time coaching, encouraging, supervising and organising our students to attend these events. The Cowra Eisteddfod continues this week with CPS students performing in the Short Skit/Drama and the Special Needs category. The students (and teachers!) have put in many hours of practice to be performance-ready and have impressed their teachers and families with their talent and skill! Well done to Budyabudya and Mirri who collected a whopping $235 in prize money for their Wiradjuri language performance! I am sure these classes have already thought of lots of ways they can spend their prize winnings! Next week our dancers will be performing on Tuesday while our Band students take to the stage on 6 th June. Today Mrs Wright and Ms Field accompanied our Stage 2 and 3 Band students to a special Musica Viva concert in Canowindra, as part of the Baroquefest! The students enjoyed the opportunity to listen to an Indonesian musical group and participated in a number of enrichment activities for the remainder of the day. A big thank you to Mrs Wright for her organisation and ensuring that all of our band students could attend. Yesterday Miss Causton and Mr Murray visited Carinya pre-school to meet the children as part of our Kinder 2019 Transition program. At CPS we believe that ‘Every Day is Open Day’ and prospective parents are more than welcome to contact the office to arrange a personal tour and see what our school has to offer. I hope that our 20 primary students attending the Western Region Dance Camp tomorrow have a wonderful day! A big thank you to Mrs Allison Buckley from Cowra High School and Mrs Deb Cobcroft for providing our talented CPS dancers with this amazing opportunity! Have a great week… Jenny Lewis

GENERAL RULES Paper planes must be made on the day with provided paper (A4, under

100GSM). Only one piece of paper per plane may be used.

There will be two categories: Distance & Airtime.

Students may compete in one or both categories. Only current Primary School or Secondary School students are allowed to

compete. There is an ‘OPEN’ category for parents and siblings wishing to

compete. See the Competition Day schedule for timing. There will be 6 age/year groups for each category. See below for age/grade

groups.

In both Preliminary rounds and Finals, each student will get 2 throws. Students may use the same plane for each throw or construct a new plane

for the second throw.

Each Distance throw must land within the marked competition area. Students must not overstep the marked ‘throwing line/mark’, if a thrower

steps over the line the throw will not be counted or measured.

Distance will be measured in a straight line from the throwing mark to where the plane first hits the ground or an object (whichever first).

Time will be measured from the moment the plane leaves the hand to when

it hits the ground or an object (whichever first). Cheating or tampering with paper will warrant immediate disqualification.

COWRA PUPLIC SCHOOL PAPER PLANE

CHAMPION?

STEM Initiative: NSW Young Scientist Paper Plane State Championship

We are looking to enter our best students in each year for the state competition in August.

Next week Wednesday afternoon 30 May 2018 from 14.00 - 15.00 we will hold the "fly-off" for Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 students who think they can make the best paper plane that

flies the furthest or stays in the air the longest.

Year 3 and Year 4 will have their "fly off" on Wednesday 6 June, and Year 5 and Year 6 will have their "fly-off" on

Wednesday 13 June.

So dads, mums, brothers, sisters, grandparents help your Cowra Public student to learn to fold the best paper plane

from your secret design and see if they can become the school age champion.

Please see below the details and rules.
