THANKSGIVING DAY MASSThursday, November 23, at 9:00 a.m. Please bring nonperishable food items to be donated to Needy Baskets.

Bulletin Prayer: Most generous God, who has blessed us with so many gifts, help us to share our gifts magnanimously. We want to be more like You and love unconditionally. We strive to be good

stewards of all creation, especially during this season of Thanksgiving.

Papal Quote: Creation is not a property, which we can rule over at will; or, even less, is the property of only a few: Creation is a gift, it is a wonderful gift that God has given us, so that we care for it and we use it for the benefit of all, always with great respect and gratitude.

– Pope Francis, Audience, May 21, 2014

Care for Creation: This season of Thanksgiving, we can be more mindful of the gift of this Earth, especially as we sit down and finish our meals. Consider how you might be mindful during your Prayers for Grace for the Earth that gave us our food, those who labored to bring it to us, and the poor who don’t have enough. We can also pray that we will ensure the Earth’s bounty will provide for future generations to come.

J & D Bicycles has a Wheels of Kindness program where they accept good donated bicycles, repair and recondition them and offer them at no charge to those in need. They are asking for referrals, so

that they can place the bicycles to those most in need. Please feel free to call them at 937-315-2453 or email at [email protected]. J & D Bicycles is located at 500 N. Elm Street in Troy.

THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME NOVEMBER 19, 2017

40 DAYS FOR LIFE – VERY SPECIAL THANKS to those who came to pray for the unborn at the Kettering abortion clinic: Tami Kueterman, Ben and Christy Jones. St. John’s and friends have participated since 2008 and it always seems like such a simple thing when we are walking the sidewalks and praying, but God has given us power in prayer. Babies are being saved and abortion clinics have been closing because of it. Since 2007–2017, 13,785 lives have beem reported saved and 90 abortion centers have closed during the 40 Days for Life campaigns.

UPCOMING EVENTSPlease be generous in this week’s second collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. In the United States, one in six people live in poverty. In addition, 25 percent of funds collected remains in our diocese to fund local anti-poverty projects. Please prayerfully consider how you can support this collection and work on the margins. More information about the Catholic Campaign for Human Development can be found at www.usccb.org/cchd/collection.

Advent Lessons and Carols: Tuesday, December 12th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Christopher Parish in Vandalia. Advent Lessons and Carols is a service of Scripture and song that dates to the late

19th century. In this beautiful service, we listen to eight Scripture readings which recount the fall, the promise of a Messiah, and call each of us to prepare room in our hearts for Christ. Each lesson is followed by a carol or hymn that reflects on the lesson’s message, and a brief prayer.

Over 100 new items along with perennial favorites, like rich chocolate, will be available at this year’s International Artisan Sale, sponsored by the Catholic Social Action Office in partnership with Weavers of Justice, Saturday, December 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00

p.m. at UD’s River Campus, 1700 S. Patterson Boulevard, across from the Carillon Tower.

Products are sourced from Catholic Relief Services Ethical Trade, which brings Catholics closer to their faith through education, advocacy and access to ethically produced products of the highest standards. CRS’ getting process employs the principles of the world’s leading fair trade organizations and goes a step further to ensure these companies’ business practices are not in conflict with Catholic social teaching. For more information, contact Pam Long at 937-224-3026, ext. 5018 or [email protected].
