THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT DO IN PRAGUE

1. We recommend that you do not stop a taxi directly in the streets. Unfortunately, Prague is famous for charging tourists 3 – 4x more than the standard fare. Use instead one of the taxi operators recommended above.

2. You should only exchange your money in the exchange office our staff recommends or a bank. The exchange rates in many of the small shops around town and especially in the centre are extremely poor. Exchange rate for 1 EURO should be around 25-26 Czech Crowns and for 1 USD should be around 21-22 Czech Crowns.

3. Do not bring your passport with you to school every day. If you possess both you might consider carrying your ID card, or a photocopy for some peace of mind.

THINGS YOU NEED TO BRING WITH YOU TO PRAGUE

1. Make sure you bring your laptop!!! 2. Prepare your English CV in PDF. 3. Bring some semi-formal and formal clothes for our formal events as well as for your internship. 4. We recommend that you bring 1.000,- EURO in cash to pay for your accommodation (if applicable)

and other local expenses. 5. Bring your own bottle - because we are an Eco-friendly company, please bring your own water bottle

or buy it the first day.

home webpage www.eccedu.net. On the right upper side of the window, you will find “Login” button. Fill

in your name and password. Your password should have already been sent to you via email. If you can’t

find it or you have trouble logging in, please go to www.eccedu.net/password and a new password will

be sent to your email (if you’re still unable to log in after following this step, please contact

[email protected] or see us in our office at Law Faculty – room 404).

Your account and CV In the “Edit account” section, in the menu on the right side of the screen, do not forget to insert your CV

(PDF) and complete your profile filling in all the required information. Fill in as much relevant information

as you can: this will later be sent to the internship companies. Uploading a picture will also

help the ECCEDU staff to get to know you sooner and better.

Calendar On the notice board, you will see the lecture calendar. To learn more about the schedule and to get the

materials, click on each lecture. You are automatically registered for all ECCEDU compulsory events, such

as The Grand Reception, Saturday trips (Kutná Hora) and the final Graduation Ceremony, as well as for all

your lectures.

Registration for the lectures ECCEDU organizes three programs simultaneously – Law, Business and Architecture.

In the calendar, you will be able to see lectures for all the three programs. For a more detailed view you

can switch to day view (see picture below).

Architecture program As a student of our Architecture program, you are automatically registered to all Architecture program

lectures. Most of the them will start at Law Faculty of Charles University – map here (see Lectures). In

some cases, you then move outside and explore the city. When exploring the city with your lecturers, we

would suggest that you wear some comfortable sport shoes. Should you be interested to take a lecture

from another program, please come to see us in our office (fourth floor, classroom number 404) and we

can disscuss your options.

Internships Some of you have decided to spend the last four weeks of your summer program in one of our internship

partner companies as interns. The process of internship selection the following.

The process of selection of internships for architecture program On Friday of the second week of lectures (19.7.), each student will take a written multiple-choice test with questions covering the previous lectures.

The test consists of questions from all the lectures finished to date combined - same number of questions for each lecture. Each of the questions will be marked with the name of the lecturer who delivered the relevant lecture.

At the end of the day (afternoon), the students choose their internships separately and on a first-ranked first-served basis. Whoever received the highest score will be choosing the internship company first, the second one will choose second, etc. In case of tie the motivational letter as described below will decide who choses which company.

Further to the test there are a few other aspects which will influence your internship placement.

1 MOTIVATIONAL LETTER Prior to arrival to Prague you will be asked to describe in maximum 50 words

what are your career goals and what you expect to gain and learn from your internship. Most of our

partner´s studios are typically architecture studios. A few specialize more in interior design. Please make

sure to mention in your motivation letter which one of these two specializations interest you more – check

here for our architecture partners https://www.eccedu.net/en/m-96-architecture-partners. Also include

your preferred city where you would like to spend your internship if you have any. (more information

about internships outside of Prague in the following paragraph). You can send these as an email or

interested to apply there and learn more about the real estate business, let us know in your motivational

letter.

4 Some of our architecture partners may have specific requirements related to specific software skills

(e.g. Revit,). Our partners will let us know about these specific requirements prior to the internship

selection. We will then try to match these partners expectations with student´s abilities.

On the opening day we will partially and briefly discuss this matter as a part of the introductory morning

lecture and answer your questions in more detail.

on time and be appropriately dressed for each working day. If you are sick, you need to inform your

Other tips for your stay in Prague: In the restaurants, pubs and cafes it is considered a common courtesy to leave a tip for service. It’s customary to round the bill up or add 10%, but you can usually tip between 5% to 15 %. Some of the places may not be equipped to accept gratuities via credit cards. Instead, hand a cash tip. There is no need to tip taxi drivers.
