After completion of this course students will be able: develop communication skills in work place, analyze communication functions in organization and solve conflicts in the way of fruitful collaboration, describe factors affecting the use of the grapevine, analyze barriers to effective communication and rules for improving cross- cultural communication in the global economy environment. Necessary background knowledge for the study of the subject Organizational behaviour or Leadership and motivation. Study results of the subject After finishing this course a student has skills to: define communication and list its functions; define main concepts of interpersonal and cross-cultural communication; describe the relationship between cultures; describe common barriers to effective communication; list rules for improving cross-cultural communication; identify the behaviours related to effective listening; define concepts of communication in intercultural work groups and teams; define interpersonal and cross-cultural communication development process. Barriers to effective communication. Trust and communication. The frameworks for assessing cultures. Contact. Values and cross-cultural communication. Cultural shock. Emotions and national culture. Emotional intelligence and culture. The importance of language in communication. Conflict and negotiation. Bargaining strategies: distributive bargaining and interactive bargaining. Improving negotiation skills in cross-cultural context. Study hours Lectures 45 hours; Seminars 22,5 hours; Consultations 28 hours; Homework 30 hours; Selfstudy 34,5 hours.
