The colours featured are pink and yellow which are essentially feminine colours that will grab attention instantly. The yellow shadow upon certain areas of the contents page mimics the look of a highlighter. It could be that the magazine is suggesting that these are the most important features. That they should be read and that the audience is likely to find these the most interesting. The highlighted look on the text adds a youthful and fun feel to the contents page and also echoes what the audience might do in a lesson at school when revising; it is, therefore, a familiar concept that they can relate to. You would be unlikely to find this feature in a magazine aimed at a slightly older and sophisticated woman, as magazines like ‘Vogue’ and ‘Glamour’ have a more structure contents page. The contents page of ‘Top of the Pops’, is messy, like the readership’s bedrooms. This unique feature secures the publications individual brand identity.

The front cover is on the contents page so that the audience are quickly able to find what caught their eye when they first noticed and picked up the magazine. The sub topics on the contents page is divided into tie in directly with the audiences interests. For example, ‘We love boys.’ The word ‘we’ is used to make the readership feel she is not the only one. ‘Wins and offers’ are also featured as young girls want to win the latest makeup and concert tickets.
