Cathy-Lea Smith (M. Ed., B.Ed., L.C.B.A.– C.I.C.B., Cert IV in Teaching Classical Ballet, L.S.F.D., Afflil A.T.O.D., Cert III Fitness,) has directed scores of theatrical productions in the past twenty years, including plays, musicals and dance produc- tions. She has many teaching qualifications including : Licenti- ate of Cecchetti International Classical Ballet, Licentiate of the Southern Federation of Dance and an Affiliate of the Austra- lian Teachers of Dancing. She is also a qualified Fitness In- structor and holds a Masters degree in Education. Her dance training began at Rosslyn Charlesworth School of Dance and continued at Bartuccios, The Dance Factory and Danceworld 301. She has performed across Australia and overseas includ- ing in Disneyland and on Broadway. Her teaching experience includes twelve years in secondary schools, having been Head of Drama at Beaconhills College and Director of Drama at Yarra Valley Anglican School. Cathy has assessed VCE Drama and Theatre Studies for the Victorian Board of Studies and adjudicated eisteddfods and competitions. She is trained in voice production and singing as well as flute, french horn, per- cussion and piano. Cathy taught dance in various academies including Dawn Vernon, Rosslyn Charlesworth and Springvale Academy of Dance for eight years before opening her own school in Narre Warren in 1993. In 1999 the academy moved to the professionally equipped studios in Vesper Drive, Narre Warren, and in 2010 the studios expanded to a second loca- tion to house the academy’s Music and Drama programs. Cathy-Lea has 5 young children of her own, including one with disabilities. She is passionate about providing opportunities for children of all abilities. Fantastic Facilities Cathy-Lea Dance Works Studios include 4 professionally equipped dance studios with sprung wooden floors, dancing barres, extensive mirrors, air conditioning, view-ing windows, separate office, lounge, television, video, and theory room. Cathy-Lea Music and Drama Works studios include 3 acoustically treated music studios, a drama studio and classroom as well as a waiting room and costume and set stores.

Reasonable Rates Fees can be paid at a discounted term rate or casually prior to each session. With highly qualified teachers, small class sizes and training that allows students to achieve internationally recognised levels of achievement, fees are very modest. Special packages are available to those enrolling in multiple classes. Awesome Opportunities Cathy-Lea students have performed on television, at corporate events, in shopping centres, eisteddfods, caba-rets, local special events, major inter-school concerts, charity events and academy productions. Students win many awards and scholarships, have been accepted into the Australian Ballet School and the Victorian College of the Arts and have gone on to work as professional per-formers and performing arts teachers. Examinations in Cecchetti Classical Ballet and both ATOD and SFD Jazz and Tap are offered. Trinity Guild-hall Drama and Music exams are also available. For Fun Fitness or Future Students can attend casually for fun, or study perform-ance more seriously for a career. The curriculum in-cludes “fun classes” for recreational students and “performance classes” for those who seek extension, as well a ‘Special Dance’ classes for students with disabili-ties. Our Music school offers instrumental Music tuition in both contemporary and classical styles for recreational and dedicated students. All students at Cathy-Lea are recognised regardless of their ability or involvement level. Those who complete the year receive a medal, and awards are given to stu-dents who have been with the school for 5, 10 or 15 years.

Superb Shows Students can take part in concerts, choreographic com-petitions, eisteddfods, cabarets, soirees, musicals and plays. Involvement in all performance events is optional. The end of year production is a combination of music, drama, song and dance combined in an entertaining show for the entire family to enjoy.
