CPD Definition

• “The Nautical Institute defines Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as the systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of knowledge and skills, and the development of personal qualities necessary for execution of professional and technical duties throughout the individual's working life, at sea and ashore”.

Why CPD?

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is about:

• Keeping yourself up-to-date

• Learning new skills and competencies in the fast changing world in which we live and work

• CPD is defined as the maintenance and improvement of knowledge, skills and competence throughout a professional’s working life. It is about maintaining and improving standards of competence and professionalism

Mandatory CPD

• Usually a requirement for Chartered status

• Measured in points or hours• Minimum points criteria for
