This plan is designed to be a results-oriented improvement plan that requires continuous focus on the school district’s eectiveness as measured by increased student learning. It will require members of the organization to continuously ask these four critical questions: • What do we expect our students to learn? • How will we know students are learning? • How will we respond when students are not learning? • How will we respond when students already know what we expect them to learn? The continuous improvement plan will require everyone within the organization to focus each day on enhanced student learning. This focus must be clearly articulated and aligned with the seven strategies and desired accountability measurements. Purpose To educate and inspire learners for life. Guiding Principles We believe: • Students are the center of the educational process. • Education is the foundation for success. • Parents must be engaged in the education of their children. • The district and the community must share a passion for education. • Emotional and physical safety is essential in the educational environment. • Learning is lifelong. The continuous improvement plan will serve to guide our decisions and our actions to better serve our students and community. The Guiding Principles create our desired culture and guide the behaviors of all members of Independent School District No. 1.

Strategy #1Design and implement a research-based,aligned, written, taught and assessedcurriculum that is rich and rigorous.

When this strategy is implemented well, we will:• Have students who understand and can explain the

learning targets they are working toward in class.• Have common formative assessments designed and

implemented by teacher teams that are aligned with standards and used to provide timely, directive and targeted interventions for students.

• Have high functioning collaborative teams that use assessment data on an ongoing basis to structure and restructure instruction, ensuring that all students learn at high levels.

• Provide instruction that supports high levels of cognition and application of learning.

When this strategy is implemented, we will beable to gather evidence including, but not limited to:• Student progress data• ISAT data• SAT data

Strategy #2Continuously improve organizational structures to result in improved student learning.

When this strategy is implemented well, we will:• Have a focus on learning and act on our belief that all

students can learn.• Have a collaborative culture.• Use data to determine what instructional strategies

support student learning and those that need additional support.

When this strategy is implemented, we will beable to gather evidence including, but not limited to:• Survey data from staff and students• Evidence of student engagement

Strategy #5Invite, celebrate and honor adaptations thatincrease student achievement.

When this strategy is implemented well, we will:• Have a culture focused on achieving the highest

potential for individuals.• Use data to guide instruction.

When this strategy is implemented, we will beable to gather evidence including, but not limited to:• Technology integration showcase• Evidence of student engagement

Strategy #6Utilize a data-driven continuous improvement model to focus ongoing work throughout the organization.

When this strategy is implemented well, we will:• Have a culture that focuses on students.• Use data to guide instruction.• Use assessments aligned to standards and student

learning expectations.• Provide an equitable learning experience for all students.

When this strategy is implemented, we will beable to gather evidence including, but not limited to:• Principal summits• School data teams• Embedded professional development• Superintendent immersion days• School Improvement Mondays

Strategy #3Focus professional development on research-based practices that lead to high student performance.

When this strategy is implemented well, we will:• Have all employees engaged in ongoing, effective

professional learning.• Support educators by providing access to high quality

learning that will be utilized in classrooms to enhance student knowledge and skills.

When this strategy is implemented, we will beable to gather evidence including, but not limited to:• Professional development—embedded and

goal focused• Technology integration training• Idaho Core Days • Courses in conjunction with higher ed• Building level professional development

Strategy #4Define criteria that describes high performanceof students and staff. Recognize whenstandards are met or exceeded.

When this strategy is implemented well, we will:• Have established expectations for teachers and

students.• Have an attitude of continuous improvement in which

we build on what is working.• Answer clearly and effectively the questions of

learning: What do we want students to learn? How will we know they have learned? How will we respond if they have not learned or have gone beyond the learning targets?

When this strategy is implemented, we will beable to gather evidence including, but not limited to:• College and career readiness• Graduation rate• Professional/technical education enrollment

Strategies clarify how we will improve performance in student learning as evidenced by measures established by the Idaho State Board of Educationand the Lewiston School District Board of Directors.

Strategy #7Integrate technology to maximize learning.

When this strategy is implemented well, we will:•Integrate technology to maximize efficiency and

effectiveness for learning.•Use technology as a tool for sharing information

between all stakeholders.•Provide students access to technology which results in

enhanced learning and achievement.

•Have the ability to access and interpret data in a useful and timely manner.

•Adapt to future changes in technology.
