Modicon TelemecaniqueCompactCompatible with the pastEnhanced for the future

    Continuing aheritage ofCompact reliability

A Modicon Telemec-anique Compact hasa big advantage overits competitors - itsdesign is based onthe reliable, timetested ModiconCompact A/120. Withthe same small footprint and simple, rug-ged design that madethe Compact the priceand performanceleader in the industry–plus many addedfeatures and improve-ments - the Compactis ready to claim itssuperiority in theworld of small, modu-lar PLCs.

    Enhanced for thefuture

The Compact doesnot replace theCompact A/120 –it improves upon it.Enhancements tomemory, processingspeed, I/O, environ-mental specificationsand programmingsoftware, as well asthe addition of specialfunction blocks andnetworking options, make the Compacta more powerful, more versatile solu-tion for a broad rangeof control and RTUrequirements.

    A world ofapplications

The new featuresof the Compact trulymake it a workhorse, especially in RemoteTerminal Unit (RTU)applications.

Features such asresistance to extremetemperatures and air-borne chemicals, flowcalculations, and newnetworking options alladd up to make theModicon Compactequal to the taskin even the mostdemanding environ-ments anywhere inthe world.

    Big performance in asmall package

    The best keepsgetting better

The Compact is theright PLC for fasterprocessing speed andincreased memory, very high I/O capacity, more reliable opera-tions under even themost extreme tem-peratures, longer lifein exposure to corro-sive environments, optional functionblocks for special-ized applications, andenhanced communi-cations options.

    Easy to useprogram

If Windows® basedprogramming is yourstandard, the Compactcan be programmedwith Modicon Concept®

or ProWORX NxTsoftware. And forthose already familiarwith Modsoft and 984ladder logic, the Com-pact is like workingwith a trusted friend. This results in programcompatibility acrossModicon platforms.

    Integratedreceptacle for creditcard-sized EEPROM

All CPU’s come withbattery-backed RAMfor both the logicprogram and datastorage. Removablememory is availablein the form of a 4 megPCMCIA Flashmemory card thatdownloads the pro-gram and the configu-ration. This devicecan safely transportprograms and dataregisters, a featurewhich facilitates quickand safe programchanges and duplica-tion without burningin PROMs, andresults in reduceddowntime and in-creased productivity.

    Saves space

The small footprintmeans less panel orcabinet space, savingmoney and makingenclosure designsmore compact.

Built and backed bythe creator of thePLC

Resources fromaround the corner toaround the world as-sure customer-dedi-cated support –24 hours a day/7 daysa week–throughoutevery phase ofdesign, installation, and ownership.

    Simple integrationof previousCompact and A/120products

For existing CompactA/120 customers, straightforward, simple integrationof networking andprogramming softwaremakes the transitionto the Compact easyand cost-effective.In addition to the IEClanguages supportedby Concept. Thesystem features anenhanced 984 instruc-tion set to allow anyModsoft or translatedapplication programto execute within thecontroller.

    Commoninstruction set withQuantum

Programs written forthe Quantum arecompatible with theCompact, significantlyreducing applicationprogramming whenmoving between plat-forms. Applicationspreviously limited tothe Quantum can nowexecute on the Com-pact platform whenits specificationsand price/performancemake sense.

    A programming solutionfor every need

Concept - Simplicityfor large systemprocess control

Concept programmingsoftware is aMicrosoft Windows-based tool set whichprovides a single de-velopment environ-ment and multiple lan-guages for creatingcontrol system pro-grams. Using familiar, standardized editorsbundled in a singleapplication, users cancreate and integrateCompact logic, com-munications and diag-nostics, all within asingle application.Concept’s editors areuniform and easy touse because theycomply with MicrosoftWindows graphicaluser interface and theIEC 1131-3 interna-tional standard forprogrammable logiccontrollers.

ProWORX NxT -Versatility for RTUs,OEMs, and systemintegrators

ProWORX NxT is alsoWindows based andcan support the entireCompact range ofcontrollers and I/O.Its extended platformsupport makes it es-pecially well-suited forRTU applications,OEMs, and system in-tegrators. Specialfeatures such as net-work scanning andthe I/O traffic coppresent a graphicalsystem display thatsimplifies configura-tion, design and main-tenance. In addition tothe full range of Com-pact PLC’s,ProWORX offers sup-port for Quantum,984, 884, 584, 484,Micro and Momentumcontrollers.

    XMIT - Report onException

When a situation atan unattended remotesite occurs, such as aprocess alarm or anunauthorized accessalarm, it is imperativethat the situation beautomatically reportedto the central stationwithout operator inter-vention.

Traditional PLCs nor-mally report onlywhen polled by theMaster Station, whichmakes real time re-mote data manage-ment impossible. Bysimply configuring theModbus Master Block,“XMIT”, the Compactfunctionally assumesthe role of RTU re-porting the situationto the Master Stationin real time.

    Industries andapplications

    Requirements ofTodays RTUs

A true RTU must bebased upon an indus-try standard platformwith open, securecommunications. Itmust offer data integ-rity, provide specialfunctions, and operateunder extremely diffi-cult environmentalconditions. ProprietaryRTUs and automationPLCs many times donot meet all theseindustry requirements, but the Compact isperfectly suited forthe job.

    Improvedprocessing powerfor complexcalculations

The Compact has anew, more powerfulprocessor that allowsmore complex calcu-lations to be per-formed with lessimpact on the logicsolve time. This en-hances the Compact’sfunctionality, espe-cially when perform-ing multiple tasks, asin flow calculations, communications, andcontrol.
