he evolution of Cameron Controls began in the early days of the oil and gas

industry and continues today with the formation of the Cameron Controls

Division of Cooper Cameron Corporation.

Cameron Controls is dedicated to the controls industry and commits

the full resources of Cameron into a focused organization designed specifically

to meet the needs of drilling and production customers worldwide. This focus

means that Cameron, today more than ever, is dedicated to

providing the engineering excellence and product quality that the

industry has come to expect from the leaders in subsea systems.

Cameron began the commitment to technological advancements

in subsea drilling and production controls during the early 1970s. Since

then, the company has supplied controls for offshore drilling rigs,

production platforms, subsea wells and installation/workover opera-

tions. In addition, Cameron has supplied safety shutdown

systems, piloted operated valves and controls for

land drilling rigs.

Just as Cameron leads the industry in BOP and subsea

production technology, Cameron Controls continues to lead

the market in the development of control systems. Drilling

and production in progressively deeper waters has created a

need for transmission of control signals over long distances

with absolute system reliability. Using the latest computer

technology and improved power transmission techniques,

Cameron engineers have enhanced the capabilities of

traditional designs and system functions.

Cameron Controls maintains the Cameron commit-

ment to the design, manufacture and service of the highest

quality controls systems in the industry.

Subsea BOP Multiplex (MUX) Control Systems

The Cameron MUX control system combines the

reliability of the Cameron Subsea BOP Hydraulic Control System

with electronic technology to provide the rapid actuation

required by subsea BOPs operating in deep water.

The Cameron MUX system includes surface control equipment and

panels and a subsea retrievable pod. The surface components are based

on standard, industrial, microprocessor-based, programmable logic

controls. An electro-hydraulic control unit mounted on top of the

subsea pod contains the electronic control equipment housed with-

in an atmospheric pressure vessel. This control unit also houses the

solenoid pilot valves which convert the electrical commands into hydraulic

signals to actuate the large hydraulic valves in the modular control pod.

Subsea BOP Acoustic Control Systems

The Cameron Subsea BOP Acoustic Control System has been

used in both the Gulf of Mexico and North Sea since 1975. Completely

self-contained and independent of the primary BOP control system,

the Cameron Acoustic System maintains BOP stack functions in

emergency situations. The system surface control unit is portable and can

be safely used to send acoustic signals to control stack functions from

a distance of up to one mile.

Cameron is also a leading supplier of control systems

for land, platform and jack-up rigs. Cameron engineers

design each system to meet the demands

of each application and ensure that each system

requires a minimum of maintenance and repair during

a job and preventative maintenance between jobs.

Whether for land orsubsea applications,Cameron DrillingControl Systems haveearned a reputationfor excellence.

Cameron Drilling Control Systems

s the world’s leading supplier of blowout

preventers (BOPs), Cameron is uniquely qualified

to design, manufacture, install and service drilling

control systems tailored to the specific requirements

of Cameron BOPs.

Cameron pioneered the development of

hydraulic control systems for subsea BOPs and

initiated and developed virtually every component

that is now commonly used to control underwater

preventers. From small solenoid valves to the complex

subsea control pods used on deepwater BOP stacks,

Cameron engineers have developed control components

and systems to meet a variety of needs including:

Subsea BOP Hydraulic Control Systems

The Cameron Subsea BOP Hydraulic Control System offers

highly reliable, cost-effective control for drilling applications in which

a single, multi-line hydraulic bundle is run to the BOP stack to control selected

functions. Typically, such systems are used in shallow water applications,

but the design of Cameron systems makes them applicable to deeper

water as well. Cameron components for Subsea BOP Hydraulic

Control Systems are designed for dependability and field

serviceability. Valves used in this system incorporate

Cameron’s sliding metal-to-metal seals known industry-wide

for their superior tolerance to fluid contamination. And

only Cameron offers retractable hydraulic connectors for

subsea control units. These connectors protect the sealing

components from damage during installation and retrieval

of the subsea control pod.

Cameron installs the first Direct Hydraulic Drilling Control System. Cameron develops the first Multiplex Drilling Control System and the first Acoustic Drilling Control system.

Piloted and Sequential Hydraulic Control Systems

Cameron Piloted Hydraulic Control Systems use piloted control valves

and a local hydraulic fluid supply located subsea at the Christmas tree to

shorten response time for greater offset distances. Piloted system components

are located in a subsea pod which is mounted on the tree to provide the

interface for surface control of subsea functions.

Advantages of the Cameron Piloted Hydraulic Control Systems include

a reduction in the size and cost of umbilicals over direct hydraulic systems.

Sequential Hydraulic Control Systems are similar to Piloted Hydraulic

Systems, however, the piloted valves are replaced with sequenced valves to

enhance performance and response time. The key component of the Cameron

configuration is a specially developed subsea sequence valve which can

perform a minimum of six functions from a single pilot.

Electro-Hydraulic Multiplex Control Systems

Cameron Electro-Hydraulic Multiplex (MUX) Control Systems can be

used with single wells which require subsea readback information for control,

as well as for complex production systems such as multi-well templates and

large subsea manifolds. These systems provide real-time system response and

complete subsea status information at all times. Like the MUX drilling control

system, the production MUX system combines the reliability of the Cameron

Subsea Hydraulic Control System with electronic technology to provide the

rapid actuation required by subsea production systems operating long

distances from topsides controls.

The Cameron MUX System utilizes PC-based surface electronics which

are based on standard, industrial programmable logic controls in conjunction

with a purpose-built subsea electronics module. Subsea components include

Cameron’s ultra-high efficiency inductive coupler and high-reliability shear-type

solenoid valves which convert the electrical commands into hydraulic signals.

Today, multi-well production in progressively deeper waters has

created a need for transmission of control signals over longer distances with

absolute reliability. Cameron has met this challenge with the development of

innovative, dependable systems to meet the requirements of virtually any

subsea production system.

Cameron productioncontrol systemsincorporate state-of-the-art technology andprecision engineeringand manufacturing.

Cameron control sys-tems feature minimalsystem components, field serviceability andlow maintenance.

Cameron Production Control Systems

ameron has provided Subsea Production Control Systems

for nearly every offshore operator in more than 50

different fields worldwide. In the early 1960s, Cameron

developed and manufactured many platform production

safety systems including pneumatic/hydraulic and electro-

hydraulic designs. As subsea wells were completed in deeper

waters, Cameron developed hydraulic and electro-hydraulic

production control systems for subsea wells.

Such systems control functions on subsea production

tree gate valves, SCSSVs, production chokes, and manifold and

pipeline isolation valves. Cameron also designs and manufac-

tures control equipment for installing subsea production

equipment such as tubing hangers, flowline connectors,

Christmas trees and tree caps. Cameron control systems also

have the capability to provide well control during workover operations.

Cameron has applied engineering expertise in valve design and manufacture

to many of the components used in the configuration of subsea controls. This expertise

has led to the development of specialized valves which feature metal-to-metal, shear

type seals for high reliability in the subsea environment. Other innovative Cameron

components include inductive couplers, hydraulic

quick disconnects, hydra- quad couplers and

subsea electronics modules.

Direct Hydraulic Control Systems

Cameron Direct Hydraulic Control Systems provide

the simplest and most economical control for short-distance,

single-well configurations. Cameron systems feature

minimal system components and subsea equipment, simple

diver interfaces, field serviceability and low maintenance.

Cameron engineerscontinue to developinnovative, cost-effective controlsystems designed to reduce the capital and operational costsof our customers.

Cameron Surface Safety Control Systems

ameron Surface Safety Shutdown Control Systems are designed to

shut in a flow system in the event of an abnormal condition,

malfunction or operating irregularity. Cameron systems are the most

reliable surface safety shutdown systems currently available to operators

for the protection of energy resources, property and the environment.

Cameron Safety Shutdown Systems comply with all governmental regulations

and maintain production requirements with maximum efficiency.

Systems are available to operate single well or multi-well installations

and units may be operated by compressed air, gas or electricity. Solar or wind

generators are also available as alternative power supplies. Cameron also

offers microprocessor-based production control systems which may be used in

combination with low power energy sources or remote data

transmission systems.

Components of Cameron Shutdown Systems

include precision-engineered pilot valves, pressure

sensors, inline test valves, dump valves, quick bleeds,

sand probes, emergency shutdown valves, and

pressure regulators. Cameron control valves open

and close rapidly and systems include high and low

pressure sensing monitors which ensure high calibra-

tion accuracy, continuous monitoring of shutdown set

points and accurate shutdown set point changes.

In addition, Cameron safety shutdown systems help

reduce maintenance time and costs because enclosures

meet the requirements for operation in hazardous locations

without the need to purge boxes.

Cameron Workover/Installation Control Systems

ameron Workover/Installation Control Systems provide remote control

when the production control system is out of service such as during

installation of subsea production equipment and workover of the

subsea well. This control system operates the running tool functions during

the installation of tubing hangers, tubing spools and subsea Christmas trees.

It also controls the wireline BOPs, the tree and downhole safety valves

during workover operations.

Cameron Workover/Installation Control Systems are typically self-

contained units which integrate a hydraulic power source, control panel

and hose reel. The use of modular construction allows Cameron systems to

be easily transported. These systems can also be designed as discrete units.

Cameron has manufactured and installed workover/installation

control systems utilizing simple direct hydraulic control as well as complex

multiplex electro-hydraulic systems.
