Academic English Certification
The Academic English Certification (AEC) consists of15 credits in high-advanced English languagestudies, with 12 credits in required courses and 2-3credits in elective courses. This program may becompleted in one semester. Completion of AEC witha grade point average of 3.0 results in a waiver ofthe TOEFL or the MTELP for undergraduate majors.

ENG 113E/F Composition I forInternational Students (6 credits)
ENG 113E/F is a two-part, modular freshman writingcourse. Designed for non-native speakers, it replaces ENG 101 or ENG 113. The focus is ondeveloping clear writing skills in expository writing. These two modular courses are completed in oneacademic semester.
ENG 113 Composition I for InternationalStudents (3 credits)ENG 113 is a freshman writing course for non-nativespeakers who have satisfied the English languageproficiency requirement. Students develop skill andconfidence in expository writing and criticalthinking. This course satisfies the ENG 101 requirement for general education.
ENG 114 Composition II for InternationalStudents (3 credits)
ENG 114 is a continuation of ENG 113 with anemphasis on critical thinking and practice inpersuasive/argumentative discourse. Studentslearn the processes necessary for collecting andincorporating research material in support ofevidence based writing.

The English Language Center administers the following tests during Fall, Spring, and Summer:
• ACCUPLACER Placement Test $49.00
• Institutional MTELP $95.00
• MTELP Writing Only $25.00
There is a $50.00 rescheduling fee for the MTELP test
The MTELP can be taken a maximum of seven (7) times due to the limitednumber of versions of the test.
English Composition Classes for International Students
ENG 113, ENG 113 E/F and ENG 114 are designed to help ESL Students develop their Academic English writing skills.
Placement in these classes is based on test scores.ENG 113 Composition I for International StudentsENG 113 E and F Composition for International Students (Extended I)ENG 114 Composition for International Students (Extended II)
Testing Center
The Conversation Partners program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is presented by the English Language Center, the Office of International Students and Scholars, and the Intersection. This program is designed to bring together international and American students for the mutual benefit of cross-cultural understanding, exchange of ideas, and enhancement of communication skills. TheConversation Partners program is a bridge between cultures and languages and a path to many new friendships.
Advanced English Proficiency Certificate (AEP) The AEP certificate consists of 15 credits in English Language studies. There are 4 required classes and 1 elective class. In order to be placed into this program, you need a 60 overall score on the MTELP.
Academic English Certification (AEC)The AEC consists of 15 credits in high-advanced English Language studies. There are 4 required classes and 1 elective class. In order be placed in this program, you need a 70 overall score on the MTELP. Completion of AEC with a GPA of 3.0 results in a waiver for all standardized language tests for admission to UNLV.

ESL Bridge Program This is an intensive ESL non-credit bearing program that meets for 20 hours per week. The ESL Bridge Program follows UNLV Fall and Spring semester dates. The Bridge Program has 6 levels (1 Beginning to 6 Academic).
