“Convert Any Shapefile to Excel Format for FREE”

1. Download Mobile Mapper Office

- Navigate to ftp://ftp.ashtech.com/Legacy/Mobile%20Mapping/MobileMapper%20120/software/

- Click on “MobileMapper Field 3.5 & Office 4.5 PN 501508L.zip” to download (Size: 137MB).

- Save to known location.

2. Install MobileMapper Office(V5.4.1)

- Unzip “MobileMapper Field 3.5 & Office 4.5 PN 501508L.zip” by right clicking the file and select-

ing “Extract All...”.

- Click “Extract” in the

pop-up window to com-

plete the extraction.

This document will walk you through the process of converting GIS data in the shape-

file format to the CSV format used by Microsoft Office Excel. Mobile Mapper Office is a free-

1. Download MobileMapper Office

2. Install MobileMapper Office

3. Create a new map

4. Add shapefile(s) to map

5. Export map to CSV file

- Navigate to the folder where you extracted “MobileMapper Field 3.5 & Office 4.5 PN

501508L”

Double-click on “Setup.exe”

- Select “Install MobileMapper Office 4.5

NOTE: Do not install MobileMapper

Field 3.5. It is not necessary.

- Select “Next”

- Select “Next” again

- Click “Install” to begin the

installation.

- Click “Finish”. Mobile Map-

per Office is now installed.

-MobileMapper Office is now installed. To

continue, double click the icon on the desk-

top to run MobileMapper Office.

3. Create a new map

- Click the button in

the upper left hand corner

and select “New”.

- Enter a name for the new map.

- Choose the root folder loca-

tion. This folder will hold all of

the files related to the map, in-

cluding the exported ones

(Suggestion: Create a folder like

C:\GISData).

- Click “OK”.

A new map has been created!

4. Add Shapefile(s) to map

- Click on “Add Layer” in the upper left hand corner of the screen,

then click “Select Existing”.

- Find and select a shapefile or multiple

shapefiles to import.

- A dialog will pop-up showing the user the following: System

projection, Horizontal Datum, Projection, Vertical Datum, and

Linear units. MobileMapper Office will automatically use the

projection defined in the .prj file of the shapefile. Use default

settings unless there is a need to change.

- Click “OK” to accept.

- Now that the shapefiles are imported, the data points will be shown in the main window. See below.

5. Export data to KML file

- Click on the “Export” button in the upper left hand corner of

the screen.

-Make sure “ASCII(.csv)” is selected

from the drop down menu of “Save as

type:”

-Rename the file if needed and then

click “Save” to complete the export.

Once saved, Open the .csv file with Microsoft Office Excel.

Once the export is completed, the user is given

the option to open the newly created .csv file in

Microsoft Office Excel.
