LearningSpace to Blackboard Versions 2.0 through 3.5 Originating content was in a proprietary
format, all content had to be recreated/cleaned up
No export feature for content (“Save As HTML” only real option)
Content, content structure, quizzes, assignment management, gradebook (i.e. everything) all had to be recreated
No standards used; Blackboard did allow import of some content, but did not take advantage of it since the content had to be created from scratch

Blackboard to Desire2Learn Conversion time reduced (15-20
min/course) Originating content was in an open
format (HTML); styles externally managed
Export feature available Content structure, assignment
management, gradebook all had to be recreated from scratch
IMS Content Packaging (CP) and Quiz and Test Interface (QTI) formats came into play; Content and quiz data did not have to be recreated; additionally some automation was allowed
