SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVESThe Ritz-Carlton has developed an environmental responsibility strategy that includes:• Reducing energy and water
consumption by 20% by 2020.• Increasing local and organic dining
options by partnering with local farmers,growers, and seafood purveyors.
• Sourcing environmentally preferred products.
• Empowering hotel development partners to build sustainable hotels.
• Engaging and inspiring employees andguests in conservation efforts.
The hotel is committed to its responsibilityto the environment, especially during California’s record-breaking drought. In aneffort to reduce water use the hotel replacedall existing in-room toilets with high efficiency dual-flush units, saving an estimated 861,000 gallons of water annually.

The hotel has also taken an aggressive approach toward reducing its energy consumption. During 2014-2015, the hotelhas completed energy efficiency upgrade projects totaling 1.5 million kWh in energy savings and reducing its peak demand by 186 kW. These upgrades included adding HVAC controls, installing electronically commutated (EC) motors in walk-in refrigerators/ freezers, installing variable frequency drives(VFD) on pool and spa pumps, installingLED lighting both interior and exterior, aswell as upgrading the Building Management System.
In 2016, the hotel is planning to continueits energy reduction efforts with additionalHVAC controls upgrades generating an additional 500,000 kWh and a peak reduction of 50 kW.
In 2015, The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Reyreceived the Cool Planet Award in the hospitality sector from Southern CaliforniaEdison and The Climate Registry.
