ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
The history of our country shows us that the first schools belonged
to the churches, and therefore, total education was Bible-centered.
Our school is established on the principle of responsibility to assist
parents in the training and education of their children that they might
grow even as Jesus, “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and
in favor with God and man,” Luke 2:52. This means that our children
must develop intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially. True
education must conform to the ideals set forth in the Bible.
This school is a ministry of the Coon Rapids Baptist Church to the
glory of God, and as a ministry, has goals and objectives to be
fulfilled through a planned course of study coupled with the
cooperation of the home. Our program is designed to develop the
whole child (Luke 2:52).
To have “quality in the classroom” and “character in the student”
will mean an education that involves sacrifice. The church, the
administration, the parents, and the students will all sacrifice to bring
about quality education. We believe, “Christian education does not
cost, it pays.”
We want your child to enjoy finding God’s will for his or her life
while here at Coon Rapids Christian School (CRCS).

STATEMENT OF FAITH
As an integral and inseparable ministry of Coon Rapids Baptist
Church, Coon Rapids Christian School has as its statement of faith the
Doctrinal Statement of Coon Rapids Baptist Church. Copies are
available upon request.
STANDARD OF CONDUCT
Coon Rapids Christian School seeks to provide an environment
conducive to spiritual growth and development of young people who
are not yet mature Christians. The school also realizes that the home,
church, and school of the student must be in agreement and in
conformity to God’s Word to best provide for proper student spiritual
growth and development. In the light of this desire the following
Standard of Conduct has been adopted. In order to promote the
spiritual welfare of the student, the school expects each student,
parent, and staff member, whether at home, school, or elsewhere:
To refrain from cheating, swearing, smoking, gambling, dancing,
drinking alcoholic beverages, using or talking favorably about
narcotics and abusive drugs, or using indecent language.
To maintain Christian standards in courtesy, kindness, morality, and
honesty. To strive to be of unquestionable character in dress,
conduct, and every area of life (I Corinthians 10:31).
ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE
CRCS is in existence to assist the home in the training of children,
rather than to take the place of the home. While desiring to
supplement home training, the school must expect that parents will
fulfill their role as leaders in the lives of their children.
Generally, students are not accepted who have run away from
home, been arrested, have been previously expelled from a school, or
Rev. 10/3/2012 Coon Rapids Christian School

have used alcohol, narcotics, or tobacco in any form or abused drugs.
Such applicants will be reviewed on an individual basis. Married
persons or unwed parents are not accepted. A student may be
dismissed for violating any of the above prohibitions.
Students of Coon Rapids Christian School must agree to work
toward Christian character in dress, conduct, and attitude, maintaining
this standard in courtesy, kindness, language, morality, and honesty.
All new students are admitted on probation for the first six weeks.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Every parent is encouraged to participate in Parent Orientation and
Parent/Teacher Conferences. These are designed to promote good
understanding between parents (guardians) and faculty. Parent
Orientation night will be held the week before the beginning of
school. Parent Conferences with the Supervisor will be scheduled
following first and third quarters. Other conferences may be
scheduled as necessary.
MEDICAL GUIDELINES
A Confidential Student Health Information form must be filled out
and submitted to the school office. All students must have received
all vaccinations in compliance with the State of Minnesota School
Immunization law or have formally filed a legal exemption.
Students showing obvious signs of illness, such as sore throat,
elevated temperature, nausea, etc., should be kept home. When a
student is in need of medical attention the school will call the parent
or emergency contact and appropriate medical personnel. Students
must have registered normal temperature for 24 hours before they may
return to school.
Students requiring prescription medication during the school day
must have a physician and parent signed Authorization for
Administration of Prescription Medication at School form on file with
the school. All medications must be transported to and from the
school by a parent/guardian or by the student with parent/guardian
written attached authorization. All medication must be properly
labeled including directions, and turned in to the Supervisor. Students

are responsible to take their medication. Drugs containing Ritalin,
amphetamines, and other stimulants are not allowed in school. CRCS
does have a small supply of Over-The-Counter medications available
for students in grades 5 thru 12 only, dispensed by parental request
with an OTC authorization form.
Coon Rapids Christian School does have limited insurance on our
pupils. Our insurance is designed to be supplemental to your own
family insurance for accidental injuries. In case of injury during the
course of the regular school day, claims can be made against our
insurance in behalf of the costs that your insurance does not cover.
Settling of that, however, would be between you and the insurance
company. At all outings of the school, field trips, privilege trips or
athletic events, we accompany the students with adequate staff
supervision. Students should be cautioned by their parents to always
obey the rules laid down for each outing.

ACCREDITATION
Coon Rapids Christian School meets the required criteria of Section
120 and following of the Minnesota Definition of a School, passed by
the Minnesota Legislature. By investigation and cooperation, the
Coon Rapids Christian School has been accepted and recognized as an
institution of educating Elementary and Secondary students by Anoka
Hennepin District #11.
Coon Rapids Christian School uses the Accelerated Christian
Education (ACE) curriculum. This curriculum is thoroughly
academically and biblically based. Registrars of colleges or
universities are interested in the academic merits of individual
Rev. 10/3/2012 Coon Rapids Christian School
Handbook for Parents and Students Page 9
students, not in the name of their school of graduation. Thus, they
evaluate each applicant’s academic aptitude through nationally
standardized tests. The instructional program of the Accelerated
Christian Education is designed and implemented to properly train
students who wish to continue their education beyond high school.
Students graduating from schools using the Accelerated Christian
Education program for the most part, register higher on nationally
standardized tests. Each year the school administers national
standardized tests and keeps the results on file which are available to
parents.
CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Each student attends Bible class throughout the week. Bibles are
required.
Chapel: Chapel service will be held one day a week. Pastors,
missionaries, evangelists, educators, who are members of Baptist
Churches will preach the Word of God. Special Chapels may be held
on other than regularly scheduled days as outside speakers are
available. Bible required.
STUDENT CONDUCT
Students of Coon Rapids Christian School must agree to work
toward Christian character in dress, conduct and attitude, maintaining
the standard in courtesy, kindness, language, morality, and honesty.

Boy-Girl Relationships
While it is realized that dating and courtship are important and do
play a vital part in young people growing up and establishing their
own home and family, it is the policy of CRCS that this is not part of
the educational process of the school. Therefore, while the students
are on the grounds for any school related purpose, a policy of no
physical contact between boys and girls (except as designated in
specific Phy. Ed. or related activities) shall be enforced. While on
field trips or school sponsored activities such as athletic games, this
rule shall also apply.
DISCIPLINE
Griping is not tolerated! If your child does come home complaining
about a policy or discipline, please follow this procedure:
1. Give the school the benefit of the doubt.
2. Realize that this complaining is quite possibility emotionally biased
and without all the information.
3. Realize that we have reasons for all rules and that they are enforced
without favor.
4. Support the Administration, and call us for all the facts.
When a student’s attitude or actions are not in accord with school
policies or principles, the student may be placed on probation or
suspension, or asked to withdraw. Parents / guardians will be called
for a conference. If the administration feels the situation does not
change, parents will be asked to meet with the Administration and
School Board for disposition of the discipline problem, which may
involve a request for the withdrawal of the student.
Coon Rapids Christian School is dedicated to the training of
children in a program of study, activity, and living that is Christ-
centered. The Scriptures teach, that “all things should be done
Rev. 10/3/2012 Coon Rapids Christian School
Handbook for Parents and Students Page 11
decently and in order” and we believe our students should be taught to
accept that God-given responsibility to walk honorably before all
men. Therefore, a discipline is maintained in the Learning Center
which is firm, consistent, fair, and tempered with love, good
judgment, and a genuine regard for the students. However, when a
disciplinary action becomes necessary, it is firmly carried out.
Discipline is a very important aspect of education, for unless a child
learns and practices discipline, he has not learned to live in harmony
with God. Likewise, the success of CRCS as a school effectively
training your children rests partially on effective control and
discipline.
Students are reminded that the Lord Jesus expects us to be
disciplined in all of life. (Romans 13:1a; Hebrews 13:17a; Proverbs
6:23; 10:17; 19:18; 22:15)
Demerit System
Coon Rapids Christian School believes that training in personal
discipline is essential to the full development of the individual. The
discipline system at CRCS is based on a demerit system and regulated
by the student’s Learning Center Supervisor. The particulars of the
demerit system will be dealt with each year at the Parent Orientation
meeting.
Learning-to-Read (K) discipline will be handled by the Supervisor
in consultation with the administrative staff. Elementary (1-6) and
Secondary Levels (7-12) will be on a demerit and/or detention system.
The following is a sample of the system.

Four (4) demerits in a day result in a 30 minute detention after school
as assigned by the Supervisor. For each additional demerit, there will
be an additional 15 minutes added to the detention, When a student
receives detention, a “Detention Slip” will be sent home with the
student to be signed by the parents and returned the following
morning.
Students during the last two weeks of any quarter, who in the
opinion of the Supervisor take liberties with the demerit system, can
have their demerits applied to the next quarter.
Dress code and conduct demerit records will be kept on a quarterly
basis. When a total of 15 demerits have been recorded, the student
will be called in to have a conference with the Principal. Upon
reaching a total of 25 demerits, a parent, supervisor, and Principal
conference will be suggested in order to further discuss the problem.
The accumulation of 40 Demerits will result in two consecutive days
of in-school suspension, and a $1 fine for the fortieth demerit and each
demerit thereafter. At the accumulation of 50 Demerits the fine will
increase to $5/demerit and at 60 the fine will thereafter be
$10/demerit. Throughout this process the Supervisor, Principal and
School Board as always are willing to meet with parents and students
to resolve the problem. We would remind parents that if they choose
to remove their student that ALL STATE COMPULSORY
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY.
After 20 actual school days from the date of removal of the student,
the parents may make application to have the student re-enrolled in
the School, which application will be considered by the School Board
and the Administration.

Detention Clarification
The time available for serving detention will begin at 2:15 p.m.
and last for up to 45 minutes, or longer at the Learning Center
Supervisor’s discretion. Detention to be served greater than 45
minutes may be carried over to the next assigned detention day. If
students on detention misbehave, additional detention time will be
assigned for the next assigned detention day and another detention slip
will be sent home.
Merit System
Any week that school is in session at least 4 days, students with
less than 40 Demerits, may have 2 demerits removed from their record
if they did not receive any demerits during that week. Students must
be in attendance the full week. This applies only to removal of
demerits.

Dress Code
No aspect of Christian testimony is more obvious than the matter
of appearance. The way an individual grooms himself is in fact a
statement about what values he holds dear, what attitude he wants to
portray to those around him, and with what segment of society he is
anxious to identify himself.
The Bible commands Christians, “be not conformed to this world”
(Romans 12:2). The Christian must be concerned that, by his
appearance, he is identified with Christ not the world.
The dress code at Coon Rapids Christian School is based on four
Biblical principles concerning appearance.
1. Modesty It should be easy for Christians to understand the
importance of modesty from such passages as I Timothy 2:9, 10.
Modesty in dress is an indication of godliness, while immodesty
reveals a worldly attitude. The Bible tells us that “Man looketh on the
outward appearance, but God looketh on the heart.” (I Samuel 17:7).
God knows your spiritual condition by your heart, but man can only
see the physical body and how it is attired.
2. Appropriateness The students’ clothing should reflect not only
modesty, but also appropriateness. A sharp professional appearance is
appropriate for the school environment.
Students who are well-groomed have a better self image. Behavior
actually improves. When a student looks sharp and neat he will tend
to act that way; a sloppy appearance tends to foster undisciplined
character. Appropriate clothing encourages responsible behavior. As
a result of feeling well-dressed, students tend to concentrate more on
academics. A sloppy, untidy appearance has a negative effect on
student attitude and achievement.
Rev. 11/8/2012 Coon Rapids Christian School
Page 16 Handbook for Parents and Students
3. Sanity The term sobriety (I Timothy 2:9) speaks of saneness,
soundness of mind, self-control. Fashions often tend toward the
bizarre but believers ought always to be characterized by self-control
(Holy Spirit control) and Biblically balanced thinking.
4. Humility Many times fashions become a means of self
promotion. The individual who can better afford a fine wardrobe
develops a contemptuous attitude toward those who cannot, and then
uses his fashionable attire to reinforce his feeling of superiority.
Keeping these four Biblical principles in mind, the Coon Rapids
Christian School staff will enforce the following dress code. We
reserve the right to pass judgement on any attire which we feel
detracts from the spirit of the aforementioned Biblical principles.
Boys
Pants should be “Docker” type pants. Belts must be worn with
pants designed for belts. No faddish pants (draw string, multiple
pockets or zippers, baggy, etc.) are to be worn. No blue or black
jeans will be allowed. All pants must be clean and in good
condition.
Collared, full button-up shirts, polo shirts, or turtle neck shirts are
allowed. All shirts must be properly buttoned with shirt tails tucked
in. Students also may wear sweaters or sweatshirts with collared
shirts underneath. Shirts with inappropriate words or pictures are
not permitted.
All boys are to wear socks that cover the ankle and shoes that are in
reasonably good condition. Secondary boys are not to wear sport
shoes, sandals, or “work/hiking boot” type shoes for academic
Learning Center activities. Sport shoes will be worn only for
physical education or sport activities.
Non-medical necklaces, non-medical bracelets, and any earrings
(body jewelry) are not allowed.
Rev. 10/3/2012 Coon Rapids Christian School
Handbook for Parents and Students Page 17
Boys are to keep hair trimmed in a conventional haircut, which
includes a neat trim on the sides, top and back, so that it does not
touch the collar, the ears, or the eye brows. No faddish or extreme
hair styles will be permitted such as bowl cuts, shaved heads, hair
colors, spiking, etc. Boys should be clean shaven with side burns
trimmed at mid-ear. No beards or mustaches are allowed.
The dress code for chapel days will be dress shirts and neckties. No
sweatshirts, polo shirts, or turtlenecks.
Girls
Necklines must be very conservative and blouses must be kept
modestly buttoned (no skin is to be exposed below three finger
widths from the collarbone). Clothing made of sheer or clinging
material will not be allowed. Blouses are to be distinctively
feminine. Tops with inappropriate words or pictures are
unacceptable. No more than two layers are allowed with all tops
reaching at least to the waist. Midriff tops are not allowed (tops
that expose skin at the waist when arms are extended over the
head).
Skirts and dresses must be no shorter than the middle of the knee
and no longer than the ankles. They must fall away from the body
and not follow the body contour. They must also have hems, and
not ragged edges. Slits must be no higher than the middle of the
knee. Pants are not allowed.
At the discretion of the parents, girls may utilize ladies apparel
slacks or pants for that measure of warmth and comfort when the
student’s parents feel the winter weather warrants the same. The
following guidelines are to be observed:
1. Ordinary ladies apparel slacks or pants worn to and from school
must be worn under the skirt, not over, nor instead of.
2. Snowsuits or quilted snow pants may be worn, and can be worn
over dresses or skirts.
Rev. 11/8/2012 Coon Rapids Christian School
Page 18 Handbook for Parents and Students
Either of the above (1 or 2) will be permitted during break or lunch
time for recreation out-of-doors during winter weather. On school
outings and winter phy-ed., the wearing apparel will be at the
discretion of the School Administrator.
Shoes should be in reasonably good condition, with heels no higher
than two inches. No flip-flops or sandals between the toes are
allowed. Elementary girls are to wear socks, or tights. Secondary
girls are not to wear sport, or faddish shoes for academic Learning
Center activities.
All girls’ hair must be clean and neatly combed so that it stays out
of the eyes at all times. Hair style fads such as unusual hair
coloring, extreme styles, etc. will not be allowed. No make-up is
allowed for elementary girls except lip gloss. Jewelry and
cosmetics should be used in moderation in Secondary Learning
Center. All earrings should measure no larger than a quarter.
Multiple earrings will be considered a fad, and will not be
permitted. An earring may be worn only in the ear lobe (no body
jewelry).
The dress code for Chapel Days will include dress, skirt or jumper
with dressy, feminine blouse or sweater, no t-shirts (tees), no blue
jean skirts, no sweatshirts or hoodies.
All students
Clothing depicting TV, movie, or cartoon characters or scenes is
considered inappropriate.
As part of the dress code, personal hygiene is very important.
Students are to bathe regularly (daily is strongly encouraged). Older
students should use deodorant daily. Hair should be washed and must
be neatly combed. Any fad (tattoos, etc.) that in the opinion of the
Administration detracts from the Christian and orderly environment of
the Learning Center will not be permitted.
Chapel dress will be required for all students at all special
programs (Fall Program, Spring Program, Awards Program,
Rev. 10/3/2012 Coon Rapids Christian School

Graduation, etc.). All students are to wear well kept dress shoes.
Nylons are required for High School girls and suit jackets are
encouraged for High School boys at all special programs
GENERAL
Griping will not be tolerated at any time.
We request that any student supplies, including lunch boxes,
notebooks, folders, etc., not depict TV, movie, or cartoon scenes or
characters. Supplies with inappropriate words or pictures are not
permitted.
If any church or school property is marked on or defaced, the
offending student will be required to replace it. Any deliberate
damage or defacing to church property will result in a charge to
parents for time and material to make repairs or replacements.
The following items are not permitted on school grounds at any
time, will be confiscated if found and could result in expulsion: guns,
matches, lighters, cigarettes, knives, and fireworks and can result in
expulsion.

Roll Activity may be planned by the Supervisor for those students on
Honor Roll. The students will be responsible for whatever cost is
incurred.
Field Trips
Along with their studies, students may have field trips during the
year. These field trips, while a source of enjoyment for the students,
are primarily designed to be learning experiences and students may be
asked to take notes and tests over the trip. Students are expected to go
on field trips as a regular part of the school day with their Learning
Center. The only reasons for not participating are illness or finances
(if financial, please contact the school as soon as possible). Non-
attendance at school on the day of a scheduled field trip will be
marked as an absence. Students must at all times follow school rules.
The testimony and standards of Coon Rapids Christian School must be
upheld at all times. Each trip is supervised by staff and adult
volunteers, and students should learn, as an outgrowth of the
experience, how to maintain self-control and gracious deportment at
all times. Students are to adhere to the Dress Code on each trip.
The facility and employees where the outing is being held must be
treated with respect. If at anytime a student fails to follow these
standards or demeans the testimony of the school, in the eyes of the
staff or school board, the student will lose the privilege to attend the
next field trip. For end-of-the-year Scripture Award trip offenses,
disciplinary action will be determined by the Administration. If a
student loses the privilege of attending a field trip, arrangements will
be made for the student to stay at school. A student showing up at a
field trip site in disregard to the penalties given will be a candidate for
suspension or dismissal. Any expenses incurred on Privilege and
Field Trips will be the responsibility of the student.

EMERGENCY DRILLS
Fire: Students will be instructed as to how and where to proceed.
Severe Weather: At the advent of the severe weather season,
students will be instructed how and where to proceed to areas of
maximum safety.
ATTENDANCE
The school office should be notified of a student’s absence as soon
after 7:45 as possible. A school answering machine is available
before working hours (phone the school at (763)755-1278. When
students return to school following an absence, they must bring a
written excuse, signed by parent or guardian, if previous contact has
not been made.
Students arriving after the start of school must use the front
entrance. Demerits will be given for unfulfilled Learning Center
responsibilities. Excessive tardiness will result in a conference
between the parents and Administration.
Once students arrive on school property they must not leave
without permission. Parents that are picking up their students before
the end of the school day must notify the office ahead of time.
For a planned absence, a note should be presented prior to the
student’s leaving. The responsibility for all academic work missed
during any absence rests with the students and the parents.
Doctor and dental appointments, music lessons, and other
obligations should be made after school whenever possible.

Arrangements should be made in advance by the parents with the
Supervisor for any absences other than sickness and emergency.
ATHLETICS
Athletics are an integral part of the educational program we have
devised to develop each CRCS student to his full potential
intellectually, physically, spiritually, and socially (Luke 2:52).
Keeping our bodies fit is an act of worship. “Present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God.” (Romans 12:1). We must
present our very best to God.
Athletics are character building. As a member of a team a student
learns cooperation, courtesy, and responsibility to others. In practice
he learns perseverance and self-control.
We believe that students should receive praise for doing their best
no matter what the final score is. This gives us the opportunity to
teach that God requires our best and expects our best. God does not
require us to be better than anyone else, but rather to do the best with
what He has given us.
We expect each student to honor God:
1) by playing hard regardless of the circumstances and never giving
up,
2) by showing respect for teachers, teammates, and opponents,
3) by encouraging rather than criticizing his teammates,
4) restraining himself from inappropriate reactions,
5) and by giving God the glory for his success.

LOST AND FOUND
At the end of each quarter, all unclaimed items will become the
property of the school for disposal. Articles left in undesignated areas
will be placed in Lost and Found. Articles may be claimed any time
by parents from the school office or students may claim them at the
close of school each week.
SCHOOL / PARENT COMMUNICATIONS
Family Envelope
To ensure that school communications are reaching the parents, each
family will be issued a (yellow) Family Envelope. This envelope will
normally contain communications coming directly from the school
office. The oldest student in the family at school will be given the
responsibility to carry the Family Envelope to and from school. This
envelope is not to be opened by the student and is to be given to the
parents as soon as possible upon arriving at home. One parent is to
sign the outside of the envelope along side the date sent home, and the
student must return it to school the following day. The signature on
the envelope signifies to the office that at least one parent has read the
contents of the envelope. Replacing envelopes will necessitate a
$1.00 charge.
Student Envelope
All students will have their own (white) envelope for notes concerning
them individually (i.e. Detention Slip, Demerit Slip, Dress Code Slip,
etc.). These Student Envelopes and slips must be signed and returned
the next school day. The envelopes will help in making students
responsible for their own personal notes, rather than putting that
burden on the oldest student in the family. There will be a $1.00 fee
charged for replacing an unreturned student envelope.

THE LEARNING CENTER
Each Supervisor will provide additional procedural information for
their Learning Center.
Literature and Resource Books
Approximately six (6) literature books will be read by a student in
a given year. To assist your students in building a good home library,
we strongly urge you to purchase these books the first time they
become a requirement. Parents will be notified of the cost. Resource
books may also be purchased through the school. The school
maintains a reference copy of all Literature Books for those who
choose not to purchase personal copies. Students may use these books
on school property.
Student Star Chart
Each student will be issued a Star Chart. There will be a $1.00
charge for a duplicate.
Retention of PACEs
Students are not allowed to keep completed PACEs. Some parents
are accustomed to buying and keeping workbooks that accompany and
supplement textbooks in conventional schools. However, in the
Accelerated Christian Education individual instruction program,
PACE’s are the core of the curriculum, prescribed according to
students academic needs. To allow copies to “float about” the school
community would increase the possibility of students acquiring
answers without having to experience learning through study and
activities. This would jeopardize the students’ education. Experience
has shown that completed PACE’s should not be given to parents or
students.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Requirements for graduation from CRCS normally begin in the 9th
Grade. A minimum of seven semesters of attendance are required
unless otherwise approved by the School Board, and 22 prescribed
credits are required for High School Graduation. These requirements
meet or exceed Minnesota Department of Education requirements. If
a student completes the required work before completing seven
semesters, they may take additional courses or apply for independent
study. A course must be completed before a credit is awarded. No
partial credits will be given for any courses.
Any student in his or her academic final year may complete
graduation requirements early. However, no student will be permitted
to stop formal attendance at CRCS during a semester (only at semester
break or at the time of Graduation). Any student who is permitted to
forego normal attendance at semester break, as noted above, will still
be considered a student until graduation, and will be responsible to
abide by the rules and discipline of CRCS, in appearance, conduct and
testimony.
CHURCH AFFILIATION
Parents and students are urged to regularly attend and belong to a
fundamental Bible-believing church.
