FORGET SEXY, LET’S GET DIRTY - AN EXPLORATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF SOILwynns coonawarra estate
Whilst Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted grape variety in the world, it is universally accepted that the climate and soil – or terroir – have a profound effect on the character of the wines.
Drilling down (so to speak), does the physical environment, the soil in particular, make a difference to the flavour of wine? Can you taste the soil? The best Cabernet regions of the world have long acknowledged regional, sub-regional and individual vineyard characters. Put simply, there is connection between the dirt and the wine.
Join us in the Wynns Gables, as we “get the dirt” on some carefully selected Classic Cabernet wines from around the world. Great wines from Coonawarra, Bordeaux, Hawkes Bay and Margaret River will be represented as we debate the impact of soil on wine. Included in the tasting is a 2009 La Mission Haut Brion a 100 point Robert Parker rated wine. Don’t miss your opportunity to taste pure perfection.

Cabernet Sauvignon – grape variety used to make table wine, usually stored in oak barrels for fermentation and maturation. All weekend we will have barrel samples on for tasting – some new oak, some used oak, time spent in oak varying and different types of oak – see if you can see a difference.
