This question is one heard frequently in our office. Hopefully, this article will explain how the 4-H sewing program works. Youth must start with Bring a Buddy to Sew for clothing construction. This class is held each winter. This year’s classes will be in February and March. Youth that have completed Bring a Buddy in previous years advance to more challenging units. These advanced unit classes are offered during spring break. This year those classes are offered at the Taylor Mill office on April 11-15 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day or at the Erlanger Annex office on April 4-8 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. each day. Youth that are eligible to attend these classes will be sent a letter in late February with information about registering and purchasing supplies. All youth that participate in sewing classes are expected to participate in the 4-H Spring Showcase and the Kenton County fair. If you have specific questions please contact Mary Averbeck at 356-3155

Saving money is important no matter your age, especially with an economy that is much like a roller coaster. The contest is a way for the youth of Kentucky to display their creative skills to their county and potentially the state, while becoming more aware of how to build wealth and reduce debt. Kentucky Saves Weeks is February 22-27. The winning piggy banks from each district will have their design put on display in February at the state Capitol rotunda in Frankfort. The creative Piggy Bank design submitted by Madison Genslinger received blue and champion at the county level and Madeline Hinman received blue & Reserve Champion at the county level. More information about managing in tough times can be found at: http://www.uky.ag/MoneyWise/newsletters.htm
