EQ: What are the parts of a Mercator map?

2. Latitude- Distance north or south of the equator
a. Latitude lines are called parallels because unlike longitude lines, they will never touch
b. The equator is set at 0 latitude
c. Imagine steps on a ladder. The steps are horizontal but you move up and down on a ladder. Latitude lines run side to side on a globe but are measured north and south
3. Longitude- Distance east or west of the Prime Meridian.
a. Longitude lines are called Meridians.
b. The Prime Meridian is set at 0 longitude.
c. Longitude lines curve and meet at the north and south poles.

4. Hemisphere – half of the globe (earth). There are 4 hemispheres.
5. Quadrant- a quarter (1/4) of the globe (earth).
