Coordinating Conjunctions

1. I was so tired, for the baby was up crying all night.

2. I want to go to the party, and I want to go to the

movies.

3. I do not like ketchup, nor do I like mustard.

4. I really want to go , but I didn’t finish my homework.

5. He said I could go tonight ,or I could go tomorrow

night.

When combining two independent clauses,

place a comma BEFORE the conjunction

Independent clause – a fancy-schmancy way of

saying a complete sentence

I studied all night for the test.

I studied for I wanted a a good grade.

My favorite food is peanut butter and jelly.

I love doing soccer tournaments and I love

surfing tournaments.

I am a fast runner but I have poor form.
