Slide 9 Copyright 2006 Knovel Corporation Real-Life Application Scenario: The safety engineer at a manufacturing plant has been asked to recommend a solvent to clean a piece of machinery used to produce a new product. The machine needs to be thoroughly cleaned to remove any leftover residue between production cycles. Important criteria for the solvent include low toxicity, non- carcinogenic, low corrosivity, and high flashpoint (to help prevent explosions). Cost is also important as some solvents are considered hazardous materials and disposal is expensive. Where does the engineer begin the research process to locate a solvent that fits these criteria? In the lower left drop-down box, select "Title".Knovel Library home page The query entered means, "find any title that contains the word solvent somewhere in the title name." The safety engineer figures if there's an entire book or database devoted to solvents, that would be the logical place to start. Click the button.
