Safety Department update

“At Canaport LNG, we are committed to ensuring the safety of our employees, workers and local community.”

At Canaport LNG, the safety of our employees and the residents of our community is our top priority. Safety is integrated into everything we do and as such, we are constantly delivering safety training to ensure that all employees are kept up to date on current practices and have the skills they need to operate our terminal safely.

We have adopted the industry benchmark ICS methodology for the command and control of emergency incidents should they arise. Its goal is to enable effective, efficient incident management through the integration of our equipment, procedures, communications and personnel within our organization. This training complements Canaport LNG’s Emergency Management Program by providing our employees with the skills they need to manage and work through any emergency incidents should they arise at the terminal.

Canaport LNG’s Annual

Marsh Creek C leanup!Canaport LNG has partnered with ACAP Saint John for the 7th year to host the annual Marsh Creek Clean Up. Each year, we secure an average of 150 dedicated volunteers who spend the morning cleaning up the creek and surrounding areas. We focus on this particular area every spring and thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, we can definitely say it is making an impact! The amount of garbage collected has decreased significantly since we began this event in 2008, originally collecting over 7 tonnes of garbage, and now collecting less than 3 tonnes.

This is an important initiative that Canaport LNG is proud to be involved with and we are so grateful for the support from our hard working volunteers who keep coming back, year after year. We truly appreciate the time and effort they put in to help make our community a cleaner place.

...who worked on its construction. We are proud to have reached several significant milestones over the past five years. Our facility received its first shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in July, 2009, marking the beginning of the commissioning process. The start-up of Canaport LNG also marked the moment when Saint John became one of the most important links to the North American supply of natural gas. Since receiving our first ship, Canaport LNG has berthed 92 LNG tankers from Peru, Qatar, Trinidad & Tobago, Egypt and Norway. Our terminal was also the first on the east coast of North America to berth a Q-Max vessel, the largest LNG ship in the world, which is a significant advantage to our customer.

In the last year we completed a successful compressor upgrade to the terminal, which invested approximately $12 million into the local economy, with the end result of reducing the visible flare and decreasing our emissions to the environment even further. In 2013, we received approval to re-load ships with the LNG stored in our facility’s storage tanks. Both the upgrade project and the permit to re-load ships with LNG have allowed our terminal to become more flexible, increased our utilization rates and help us provide greater service to our customer. We are well positioned to continue serving as a major energy asset for our region, and

our focus now is continuing to explore all options to maximize the use of our facility in the years to come.

Since we first arrived in Saint John, we have had the opportunity to work with many organizations and we have seen first-hand the number of organizations that are working toward the betterment of our city, and how our community pulls together to help out when help is needed. We have always felt that community support is about more than just writing a cheque and we are proud of our record of community involvement. We are extremely pleased that we have invested over $1.4 million into our community over the last five years. Our company’s philosophy has always been to invest in the community in which we operate and our goal is to continue this same level of corporate responsibility for many years to come.

As we reflect on the last five years, one thing remains clear; the Saint John community is a great place to do business – and also to work, live and raise a family. Although we are a young company compared to the many long-standing organizations in Saint John, we feel that we have been a part of this community for much longer because of the support we have been given. We are committed to being a good neighbour and maintaining our support as we continue to operate Canaport LNG long into the future!

In March, Canaport LNG was proud to host the 4th Annual Charity Volleyball Tournament in support of the Carleton Community Centre. Registration fees were collected at the event and raffle tickets on the grand prize of a $1000 gift certificate to Sport Chek were sold.

All participants enjoyed a full day of volleyball, door prizes and a healthy lunch, and best of all; we raised over $15,000 for the Carleton Community Centre – the most successful tournament to date!

None of this would have been possible without the participation of the 24 teams who joined us and we want to express our appreciation to all of the attendees – we saw a lot of great teams and a great time was had by all.

Canaport LNG was pleased to support Safe harbour with a donation of $20,000 toward building emergency housing for homeless and at-risk youth.

Although there are many services available for young people experiencing homelessness, such as a longer term supportive housing program, there is currently no emergency housing program.

This is a need that has been identified by the many youth organizations in our community and is a crucial step in ensuring our youth can realize their full potential, something Canaport LNG is 100% in favour of.
