ADMISSION INFORMATION FOR STUDENTSACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Students coming from high schoolTwelve years of academic preparation and one of the following are required:

• Indian Senior School Certificate (CISCE) or All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE) with at least 75%. UVic may offer conditional admission if you have 80% or higher on the Secondary School Examination (Class X);

• Year 12 State Board Exams: Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC); applicants with excellent academic results will be considered on a case-by-case basis;

• UK System: A-level exams with a minimum grade of C in 3 subjects (two AS-level subjects may be substituted for one A-level);

• International Baccalaureate: Diploma with at least three subjects at the Higher Level and a minimum 28 predicted points (including additional points);

• American curriculum: High school diploma with a minimum 3.00 unweighted cumulative grade point average (GPA). SAT scores of at least 1250, composite ACT scores of at least 26, and other supplementary information will also be considered if submitted.

Note: Some programs may require a demonstrated high level of proficiency in certain subject areas and/or have a higher cutoff than the minimums listed above.

Students transferring from a post-secondary institutionTransfer applicants will be considered with one or more years of a bachelor degree program at a recognized university and a minimum average of B calculated on the most recent year of study. Transfer credit will be considered on a course-by-course basis.

DocumentationOfficial transcripts in the original language are required for all completed secondary and post-secondary coursework. When the original language is not English, documentation must be accompanied by a certified English translation prepared by a recognized translation agency. Transcripts should be sent directly to UVic from the issuing institution.

Indian Senior School Certificate (CISCE) and the All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE) may be verified through the online verification website if the roll number and UID number are provided by the applicant.

PATHWAY PROGRAMUVic’s Pathway Program is designed for students who do not meet our English-language proficiency requirement but wish to complete credit courses while improving their English-language abilities for future transfer into a degree program at UVic. ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT

General admissionApplicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency prior to admission. This may be done in a number of ways, including:

• Submit an IELTS score of 6.5 with no component less than 6.0;

• Submit a TOEFL score of 90 with no section less than 20;

• Complete the UVic English Language Centre’s University Admission Preparation (UAP) course with a grade of 80% or higher.

Students who have studied for at least four years at an international school where all instruction is in English may be considered for a language proficiency waiver.

Conditional admissionApplicants who meet all academic requirements for the Faculties of Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences or Science, or the Art History and Visual Studies program, but who fall short of the minimum English language proficiency requirement, may be conditionally admitted if they do one of the following:

• Submit an IELTS score of 6.0 with no component less than 5.5;

• Submit a TOEFL score of 79 with no section less than 17;

• Register in the UVic English Language Centre’s University Admission Preparation (UAP) course.
