MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Greetings from the College of Radiology (CoR), Academy of Medicine of Malaysia.
I take pleasure in announcing the 2011 Annual Scientific Meeting of the College of Radiology which will be held on 8-10 April 2011, with the theme “Radiology: Beyond Image Interpretation”. This 2011 ASM is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Malaysia, the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), University Putra Malaysia (UPM), the Malaysian Oncological Society, Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) and Vision College.
On behalf of the Council members of the CoR and the members of the Organising Committee, I warmly welcome the Faculty. We especially welcome the RSNA International Visiting Professors who have come from afar to impart and share knowledge with us all. They will lecture on a range of different topics in the 10 tracks that cover Paediatric Radiology, Oncology, Interventional Radiology, Medical Physics, CNS and Head & Neck, Abdomen Pelvis, Breast Imaging, Accreditation and Litigation, Excellence in Academia and Personal Motivation. The last special session entitled “Radiology Means Business” will bring the meeting to a close on Sunday afternoon.
There will be two Pre-Congress Workshopsa) Basic PET-CT interpretation is organised in collaboration with the University
Putra Malaysia (UPM), and will be held at the Diagnostic Nuclear Imaging Centre at the university in Serdang.
b) Vascular Ultrasound Workshop is organised in collaboration with Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine (ASUM) and Vision College, Kelana Jaya which will be held at Hospital Serdang.
I welcome not only members of the Malaysian CoR, but also participants from our counterpart Colleges from Singapore and Hong Kong as a tripartite agreement linking our Academies of Medicine is in effect. It is my hope that all participants will have a pleasurable educational experience and a memorable time at the meeting.

TIPS FOR VISITORS TO MALAYSIA
KLIA arrivalAfter clearing Customs, suggest you head for the registered airport limo counter or the KLIA Express train counter to purchase a coupon for your ride to downtown KL. The train ride will take about 28 mins while the limo ride will be about 45 mins depending on traffic flow. There are 2 limo rates – economy and premier. The express train ride costs RM70 return and stops at KL Sentral. From there, please take a taxi to the hotel.
Arrival by railTake a taxi from the train station to your hotel. Taxi fare may vary but insist on the meter.
Arrival by roadIf you are arriving by express bus, take a taxi from the bus station to the hotel. If you are driving into Kuala Lumpur, try to arrive during off-peak hours. Otherwise, you will be caught in traffic jams from most entry points into the city. The peak hours are usually from 7.30-9.00am in the mornings and 4.30-7.30pm in the evenings. Downpours will lead to premature and extended jams.
Language(Bahasa Melayu) Malay is the national language in use, but English is widely spoken.The ethnic groups also converse in the various languages and dialects.
Religion Islam is the official religion of the country, but other religions are widely practised.
WeatherThe country experiences tropical weather year-round. Temperatures are from 21ºC (70ºF) to 32ºC (90ºF). Higher elevations are much colder with temperatures between 15°C (59° F) to 25°C (77°F). Annual rainfall varies from 2,000mm to 2,500mm.
CurrencyThe monetary unit of the country is Ringgit Malaysia and is written as RM. The exchange rate is valued at USD1 = RM3.34. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks and money changers.
TimeEight hours ahead of GMT and 16 hours ahead of U.S Standard Time.
ElectricityVoltage is 220 - 240 Volt AC at 50 cycles per second. Standard 3- pin square plugs and socket.
