Length: 2 HOURS REFERENCE: BVFD SOGs for garage fires or structure fire response and NFPA standards 1001 for firefighng; reference IFSTA Essen- als of Firefighng; current edion. Equipment, Props, Informaon or Other Resources Needed: Dry erase marker and board. Apparatus for field trip acvity, K- 12 saw and forcible entry tools for visual aids. Computer, screen and internet access for research of garage fire videos, and a comfortable classroom for crew members. It is important to familiarize yourself with garage construcon, burn rangs of sheet rock required, potenal areas of spread, and all of the items in a garage that can add to the fire problem. You can also look up the topic of Garage Fireson youtube and find a great deal of other examples to review. Home Building store in the City: Take a field trip to examine some of the different types of garage doors; look at the new gar- age doors in construcon, the header construcon, and methods on how to defeat these doors. Don t forget some of the roll- up style residenal doors that exist. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THIS CORE COMPETENCY DRILL As a crew: Each member will show with a dry erase marker and a dry erase board, a diagram of the cuts for a tradional one car and then a two car garage forcible entry technique. Review other techniques with the crew, as well as K-12 saw operaons and other tools you might ulize in a garage fire. Idenfy and list out hazards that could be found in a garage seng that would be dangerous to the firefighter.
