Living with Art

café au lit is the name of a concept that merges spaces for habitation and exhibition.

Located in the east of Paris, where the arts have flourished in recent years on account of such sophisticated venues as Le Plateau andGalerie Jocelyn Wolff, café au lit showcases current artwork in a contemporary-designed studio apartment.

Exhibitions of young contemporary artists’ work rotate roughly every five months in the café au lit gallery/apartment. During openingsand closings, café au lit becomes a public space. Afterwards, and for the duration of the exhibition, only apartment guests have thepleasure of living – like a collector – in an intimate tête à tête with the artwork.

Accommodations at café au lit can be booked from one week to several months. Art-minded travelers such as gallerists, curators,museum directors, artists and art-lovers are particularly encouraged to enquire. Whether you are in Paris for the International Photo Salon"Paris Photo," the Paris International Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC), or in preparation for an exhibition — café au lit offers a place whereyou can meet with professional colleagues and lodge comfortably within close range of central Paris.

café au lit is the brainchild of Andrea Weisbrod and Jens E. Sennewald, who initially tried the idea of renting an "art space" with a guestroom in their private apartment. Both work as freelance publicists and art critics for german language publications.

Corina Bezzola: Räume – espaces – spacesoctober 14, 2005 until january 29, 2006

Following Hamburg photographer Jochen Lempert, café au lit will present the

artwork of Basel-based artist Corina Bezzola. Bezzola studied at the Hochschule

für Gestaltung und Kunst, Basel and the Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Vienna.

Since 1996 she has won several awards, including a grant from the Christoph

Merian Foundation and a residency at the Cité des Arts, Paris.

While working with monochrome paintings, Bezzola discovered the aesthetic

significance of adhesive tape. Her recent work is performance-based: armed

with tape, Bezzola explores private homes and artists' studios, isolating individual

and normally overlooked characteristics of the space. Her photographs are both

a documentation of her explorations and a reconstruction of the physical spaces

she explores. Recent exhibitions include Transfer Koffer, Galerie Prisma, Bozen (Italy) in 2005, Format 04,

Akzent, Basle (personal exhibition), Grandprix, Kunsthalle / Foyer Stadtkino, Basle, Grandprix, Enter,

Museum of Art, Thun in 2004, Panneaux, Numaga Gallery, Colombier (with Paolo Iacchetti) (pe) and
