show. West expressed frustration over the media's willingness to

demand gun control when violence occurs in suburban havens

like Newtown, but largely ignore minority victims in urban areas.

have a discussion on gun control. We need one on drone control. Not a peep, not a

mumbling word when black folk get shot, West added. But now, Newtown, Connecticut,

vanilla side low and behold we got a major conversation. Thats wonderful. Each life is

precious, but it just upsets me when were so deferential.

One is pressed to imagine what a conversation about gun control might look like in the

context of inner city violence. Cities like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and other big

cities are home to two-thirds of all firearm homicides (http://usatoday30.usatoday.com

prohibitive firearm policies in the nation. What's left to discuss?

What is left to discuss is the efficacy of such policies, which is exactly why gun violence in

these areas are ignored. The media and grand standing politicos have no interest in

evaluating whether radical gun restriction is effective, as the conclusion might undermine

their anti-firearm agenda.

places to continue the march toward the wholesale outlawing of firearms.

years, there won't be such a loss of precious life anywhere. And just maybe, those children will become

The difference between the Sandy Hook shootings and the everyday crime in inner cities is a one of

scope. Sandy Hook had one shooter and way too many victims, all at one t ime. That makes it news,

not their race.

It is like vehicle accidents. Thousands of people die in automobile accidents and they don't make the

national evening news even once. One airplane goes down and it is written into the history books after

it is talked about for weeks on the news.

It is scale not race. But since Cornel measures everything in terms of race, he fails to see the larger

picture.

guns per capita than anywhere in America. If gun control is such a spiffy idea, why is Chocolate Chicago the
