How Do I take Cornell Notes?
6 Steps to taking Cornell Notes1. Title and date your notes2. Divide paper into the note taking section,
question section, and summary section3. Take notes during Class Connects and OLS
lessons4. Create questions for the notes you took like
you would see on an assessment5. Write a summary of the notes in your own
words6. STUDY YOUR NOTES!
Why Do You Want Me to Do This?
1. By taking notes and actively engaging in your learning, you are letting your brain process the information that was presented to you
2. Writing a summary of the notes also helps you put the information in your own words so that recall will come more naturally
3. Creating questions like you would see on an assessment has helped your brain think of the information in a different way and help with applying the information you have learned
Tips for Successful Note Taking and Studying
• Have your materials ready• Avoid distractions• Concentrate• Have a good attitude• Review notes several times• Check for accuracy of your notes• Underline/Highlight the important stuff• Use notes to self test
More Tips
When you are reviewing, use different colored highlighters to
check your progress
• Green- I know this• Yellow- I am close to knowing this• Red- I don’t get this yet

Lawlar Reads
Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys Lina is just like any other fifteen-year-old Lithuanian girl in 1941. She paints, she draws, she gets crushes on boys. Until one night when Soviet officers barge into her home, tearing her family from the comfortable life they've known. Separated from her father, forced onto a crowded and dirty train car, Lina, her mother, and her young brother slowly make their way north, crossing the Arctic Circle, to a work camp in the coldest reaches of Siberia. Here they are forced, under Stalin's orders, to dig for beets and fight for their lives under the cruelest of conditions.Lina finds solace in her art, meticulously--and at great risk--documenting events by drawing, hoping these messages will make their way to her father's prison camp to let him know they are still alive. It is a long and harrowing journey, spanning years and covering 6,500 miles, but it is through incredible strength, love, and hope that Lina ultimately survives.
