Coronation Travel Presents SUMMER IN THE CITIES
With Private Visit to The Sets of Coronation Street
August 6th - August 11th, 2018 (6 days)
London - Manchester - London
Day 01 Aug 6th, Mon: ARRIVAL LONDON
Plan your transatlantic flight to arrive at our central London hotel by early afternoon. Get
checked in, and then join our Tour Leader and fellow guests in the hotel lobby for a brief
orientation and welcome. You will no doubt be tired, so an early dinner in the hotel or a
local restaurant will no doubt be in order. Do try to stay up as long as you can to re-set
your body clock so you will be ready for a busy week !
Day 02 Aug 7th, Tue: LONDON
Rise and shine early this morning, as we have a full day tour of London, seeing all the
main tourist sites, including entrances to the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Enjoy a full breakfast in the hotel dining room and plan to be ready
for a full day. On our tour, we will be stopping in front of Buckingham Palace for a photo
opportunity, and if we are lucky, see the changing of the guards. We might stop later
afternoon for a bit of time at leisure in Covent Garden area, before returning to our hotel.
If you would like to book theatre tickets to one of the hundreds of performances in this
amazing city, just let us know and we can point you in the right direction.
There are hundreds of lovely little bistros and cafés for an after theatre cocktail or snack if
you are so inclined. Navigating the tube is very easy once you study the maps, and can
save you a lot over taking a cab in the centre of London. (B)

Discover the iconic landmarks, architectural and cultural diversity, and fascinating history that
makes London the most visited city in the world. Your London sightseeing tour will take you on a
non-stop precession of recognizable landmarks, including The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben,
WestminsterAbbey, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, and Marble Arch, The Tower of London and much more.
Visit the Tower of London
On the banks of the River Thames in the heart of London stands the Tower of London and nearly
1000 years of history and intrigue. The Tower of London has been used at various times as a
palace, barracks, military stronghold, zoo and most famously as a prison incarcerating famous
names like Sir Walter Raleigh, Anne Boleyn and Guy Fawkes. During a visit to the Tower you can
see the crown jewels worth over £20 billion, meet the ravens who legends say have the fate of the
Kingdom in their claws, talk to the distinctive Yoeman guards with their white ruffs, and learn
about the gruesome torture that went on within the walls.
Visit Westminster Abbey
The Gothic masterpiece of Westminster Abbey has been at the heart of British history since the
formation of the Abbey by Edward the Confessor in 1065. The Abbey became the coronation
church for the English monarchy in 1066, was transformed into the modern stone Abbey in the
reign of Henry III and has since been the venue for countless magnificent, joyous and sometimes
unfortunate royal events. In modern times the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton,
coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and funerals of the Queen Mother and Princess Diana have
etched the Abbey into the common memory of billions around the globe. A visit of Westminster
Abbey takes in such highlights as the Coronation Chair, the medieval Lady Chapel, museum
containing a collection of royal effigies, and the Abbey Gardens which whisk you away from the
hubbub of the city.
Visit St. Paul’s Cathedral The present Cathedral, the masterpiece of Britain's most famous architect Sir Christopher Wren, is
at least the fourth to have stood on the site. It was built between 1675 and 1710, after its
predecessor was destroyed in the Great Fire of London, and services began in 1697.This was the
first Cathedral to be built after the English Reformation in the sixteenth-century, when Henry VIII
removed the Church of England from the jurisdiction of the Pope and the Crown took control of
the life of the church. The dome of St Paul's Cathedral is the second biggest dome in the world,
after St Peter's in Rome.At the dome's base is the Whispering Gallery, a circular walkway halfway
up the inside of the dome. Due to the acoustics of the curved surface, a phrase whispered against
one wall can be heard against the far wall 112 feet away.
Some important events that have taken place at St. Paul’s include : Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897
Victoria became queen on 20 June 1837 at the age of 18, succeeding her uncle, King William IV.
She was a popular figure in Canada throughout her reign. Her birthday, 24 May, was celebrated in
the Province of Canada as Victoria Day from 1845. Victoria selected Ottawa as Canada’s capital and in 1867 she played a key role in Confederation.
Funeral of Admiral Nelson in 1806 Funeral of Winston Churchill in 1965. Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981.
Day 03 Aug 8th,Wed: LONDON – MANCHESTER
After a full English breakfast in our London hotel, our first class coach will depart London
early morning for a 380 km journey to the city of Manchester. Along the way you will
have the chance to see some beautiful English countryside, as we make our way north
Coronation Travel 219 Royalty Junction Rd., Brackley, PEI Canada C1E3C7 Toll Free 1 833 878 6234

through the center of England. We will make several comfort stops along the way, and
stop for the chance to enjoy some lunch in a traditional pub. Maybe a “Hot Pot” might suit your fancy or Steak and Kidney Pie, along with a pint?
We will arrive at our central Manchester hotel early afternoon. Lots of time to get checked
in and go exploring. You might want to do a little shopping at the popular Arndale Centre,
just a few minutes walk from the hotel. The downtown core of Manchester is filled with
lively cafés, restaurants and night spots, and you won’t need to rely on taxi’s or buses. If
you do want to explore a little further afield, buses stop right outside the hotel. This
evening you might want to dine at Jennie McAlpine’s restaurant “Annie’s” located at 5 Old Bank Street, and just a short 7 minute walk from the hotel. If she’s not at the studios working, she can often be seen there with her partner Chris Farr.
If you are up for a colourful and vibrant evening, you might choose to take a walk to Canal
Street. Gay culture has flourished into a vibrant village in Manchester, but it is also very
welcoming to the straight community. We will be in Manchester on Wednesday, and
Wednesday nights on Canal Street are affectionately known as “Butterflies”, and are
popular with the trans community. (B) Day 04 Aug 9th Thu: MANCHESTER
Today is the day you have been waiting for ! Make sure your cameras and phones are fully
charged today, as you will have some memorable photo opportunities with many of the
cast of Coronation Street. In the past we have met as many as 25 of the current actors, and
our group has also appeared in a special ITV documentary called “Rita and Me” celebrating Barbara Knox’s character Rita. ITV always makes a special effort when we visit, and has never disappointed us!
After a tasty breakfast in the hotel, you might want to spend the morning shopping,
exploring more of Manchester, or even take a trip to Old Trafford Stadium…home of the
famous Manchester United premier league football (soccer) team. Tours of the stadium
last approximately 70 minutes and run 7 days a week beginning at approximately 10 AM.
If you do choose to venture away from the city centre, make sure you are back at the hotel
no later than 12 noon, as our coach will be leaving at mid-day for the studios, and you
won’t want to be left behind !
We will be greeted by our ITV host at Media City and escorted through the streets of
“Weatherfield”. We get to walk in the ginnel, sit in the seats outside the back of The
Rovers and in Sally’s back garden outside her prized conservatory, and then roam around
all the inside sets, including Street Cars (sit in the tattered old chair) Audrey’s salon, the
Bistro, the Kabin, Dev’s shop, and of course pull a pint at the Rovers! We never know
what surprises our friends at ITV will have conjured up for us during our visit. Whatever it
is, you can be certain you will have an experience like no other, and come away with some
amazing memories and photos and great chats with the cast!
After our studios visit you will be on cloud nine, and float through the rest of the day. We
generally finish at the studios in Salford Quay around 3:30-4pm, leaving lots of time this
afternoon and evening to pick up some last minute souvenirs and do a bit more exploring
before dinner and tucking in for the night. (B)

CORONATION STREET is the longest running TV series of the world and began broadcasting on
December 9, 1960. We visit both the inside and outside sets of “the Street”, and will hopefully be
able to see actual filming (depending on the day’s schedule) ITV does not know what will be taking place until approximately two weeks in advance, therefore we can never guarantee, but our past
tours were thrilled to have been present on the set during filming and had the opportunity to meet
many of the current actors, pose for some photos and a brief chat. An absolutely wonderful
exclusive visit, and the dream of diehard Corrie fans. Some of the actors in the past have even
come in on their day off because they knew we were coming… Totally “chuffed” about that!
Day 5 Aug.10th, Fri: MANCHESTER – LONDON After breakfast in the hotel, we bid farewell to Manchester, and board our coach back to London.
Most likely we will be spending a lot of the travelling time comparing notes and sharing stories
and photos of our time on “The Street”. We will stop again enroute for a scenic lunch break,
arriving back at our central London hotel early afternoon. You might choose to spend your last
afternoon and evening with a visit to famous Harrods or exploring the trendy Soho district.
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, and the London Eye are always
worth experiencing. There are so many things to see and do in London, you will be hard pressed to
decide…but whatever you choose, it will no doubt just add to an already amazing holiday. (B) Day 6 Aug.11th, Sat: LONDON – FAREWELL
This morning after breakfast we will bid you farewell. Some may be staying a few extra days in the
UK and others will be heading for either Gatwick or Heathrow for their flights back home. For
anyone with an early morning flight, please let us know the evening before, and we will arrange a
“boxed” breakfast for you to take with you. Thank you for choosing to share this time with us. We
know you will have made some wonderful friendships and memories, and watching Coronation
Street will now be extra special, because you have been there! We do hope to see you again. Safe
travels and “ta rah” until the next time. (B)

Thank you for your interest in our twelfth tour to the UK August 6th-11th, 2018. Welcome to those who will be joining us for the first time this year, and a warm “welcome back” to our friends who were with us on one of our previous tours. As always, we have taken the suggestions of our past guests and wherever possible have incorporated them into the tour. We have been arranging quality escorted group tours for almost thirty years and have received a lot of very positive feedback from our previous clients. Our goal is to ensure all of our guests are well looked after, and happy with every aspect of our tours. Our short summer tour is a condensed trip which was designed due to the number of requests we have had over the years from folks who either can’t travel during the spring and fall when our other tours operate, or those who were only interested in seeing London and visiting Coronation Street. Ten years ago due to the integrity of our tours, Granada/ITV Studios permitted us to be on the set during filming, and our group had a chance to have some great chats with a few different actors. This is a special privilege. On recent tours we have met approximately 25 different actors ….and the word “gobsmacked” is about as close as we can come to describing the studio experience. We receive hundreds of emails each year from people all over the world who ask if they can just be part of our group for the day in Manchester so they too can have access to the inside sets. Unfortunately, we can’t permit this and reserve this thrill for those special people who travel with us on one of our tours. We require at least 25 passengers on this tour in order for the tour to go, so please don’t wait to see how many others have booked before sending in your deposit. Should we not have sufficient numbers, your full deposit will be returned to you. Please book right away so that we will have the numbers we need to guarantee the departure early. The sooner we can guarantee the departure, the sooner we can confirm all the details to you, such as the definite hotels where we will be staying. We can’t hold your spot without your deposit and booking form. The deposit required is $500 per person. We do accept Mastercard and Visa , however our margins are very slim and if you wish to process your payments on your credit card, we have no choice but to charge a 3.5% processing fee, as that is what it costs us. We
are happy to accept personal cheques, bank drafts, money orders or bank transfers with no additional fees. All payments are payable to Coronation Travel. We do require that each and every tour participant be fully covered with out of the country emergency medical insurance. If you already have that through a private or employee insurance plan, we just require proof of coverage with your booking form. Although many plans cover out of the country medical coverage, we highly recommend that you purchase additional trip cancellation insurance. This insurance will cover the total cost of your trip in the unlikely event that you have to cancel for a medical emergency. A total package insurance plan is the best coverage for combined emergency medical and trip cancellation. Please note that insurance companies do not cover pre-existing conditions. We can assist you with your insurance. Airlines are radically changing their policies when it comes to group bookings. They no longer offer substantial reductions on airfare to large groups, preferring to sell the lower airfares on an individual basis. For that reason, and the fact that many people have airmiles and rewards that they would like to use for their airfare, and we have people coming from all across the country on this tour, our tour does not include airfare. Everyone will meet at our London hotel, late afternoon on August 6th, 2018,
where we will have a brief orientation. You are free to choose your own air carrier and look for the best individual fare from your city. You can also choose to travel to the UK a few days earlier or stay a few days later. Please arrange your airfare to arrive in London throughout the morning or early afternoon of August 6th, 2018, and depart from London the morning or afternoon of August 11th, 2018. Please do not book your airfare until we have sufficient numbers to guarantee the departure, which is 25 people. As soon as we reach this number we will notify you so that you can look for the best possible airfare. We will be happy to assist you with this. We can also assist you with pre and post tour hotel arrangements. You may wish to have more time in London before or after the tour. If you are travelling on your own, and would like to share accommodation with another person in order to avoid the single supplement, we often have single travellers and will put you in touch with another single traveller if available.
We are really looking forward to having you join us! Kindest regards,
