OVERVIEW/ WHO WE ARE
UNIQUE
Cure Rare Disease is a nonprofit organization focused on ending rare, neuromuscular diseases for which there are no treatments or cures. We forge collaborations with leading researchers & clinicians to develop customized therapeutics with unparal-leled speed for those who have no other hope.
Ride to Cure Rare Disease is a bike ride event, not a race, which brings together riders from all walks of life united in the mission to end rare disease as they ride through beautiful scenery of Cape Cod. The ride will take place on September 21, 2019 starting in South Yarmouth, MA. Registration begins at 9 AM and the ride begins at 10 AM
With over 300 million people globally
impacted by over 7,000 different rare diseases, rare is not
so rare.
1. Ride to Cure Rare Disease is a day-long bike ride that takes riders through scenic Cape Cod at the end of summer. The ride stretches from the beginning of the newly renovated Cape Cod Rail Trail in Yarmouth, MA to Wellfleet, MA and back. Riders can choose a 25-mile or 50-mile ride with support and refreshments along the way.
2. Ride to Cure Rare Disease is accessible to all levels of riders. Electric bikes will be avail-able for rent at affordable price. “E-bikes” are motorized bikes that have a maximum assist-ed speed of 20 mph.
3. To top off a day of riding, there will be a party with food, live music and a celebration to recognize our riders, our sponsors and the quest to cure rare disease. This year, we will hold our reception in Yarmouth.

WHAT IS RARE DISEASE?
19 years ago, we found out that my brother, Terry, had
Duchenne muscular dystro-phy, a fatal, rare disease. It
was crushing. However, through Cure Rare Disease, we have hope for a brighter
future for Terry and many others.
- Rich, CRD Founder
WHAT WE DO Cure Rare Disease is a national organization dedicated to ending rare disease. We recog-nize that every person with a rare disease is different. As such, we and our collaborators believe that the solution to treating those suffering is through rapidly customizing thera-peutics specific to the individual. While profit-driven organizations are incentivized to treat large populations, as a nonprofit biotechnology company, our focus is on treating all who suffer from even the rarest of rare diseases.
Rare diseases are those that impact less than 200,000 people at any given time. While there are over 7,000 rare diseases known, Cure Rare Disease focuses on developing tailor-made therapeutics for 8 primary rare diseases including:
- Duchenne muscular dystrophy- Becker’s muscular dystrophy
- Spinal muscular atrophy- Sickle cell disease
- Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy- Charcot-Marie-Tooth
- Canavan Disease- Cystic fibrosis
LOCAL PARTNERSHIP EFFORTSWe believe that the quickest path to ending rare disease is through collaboration. And so we’ve orchestrated an unprecedented collaboration with the leading research universities and researchers in the US. Our collaborators include Boston Children’s Hospital, the Uni-versity of Massachusetts Medical School, Yale Medical School and UCLA. By working with top talent, our goal is to develop a platform to rapidly customize treatments for rare dis-ease.
“The potential to treat debilitating rare diseases through the work that Cure Rare Disease and its collaborators are doing is unparalleled. Within a
few years, people suffering could see an effective treatment tailor-made for them.”— Professor Louis Kunkel, Boston Children’s Hospital
