technologies will look in the future.

Environmental & Climate Protection at A1

47

On the Path to a Low Carbon Economy

Through our infrastructure we make it possible to shift traffic from the road to the data highway, which contributes directly to climate protection. And our infrastructure also constitutes an important basis for electro-mobility or the development of intelligent, forward-looking power networks.

Using Resources Sustainably

Through the efficient use of resources such as electricity, fuel and heating products and the use of telecommunications technology to replace travel, we are reducing our own CO2 footprint.

Green Awareness

We integrate our employees into our environmental projects and take up their proposals. Open and active communication with our stakeholders is important to us.

Environmental Protection with a System

We are continually improving our environmental performance by ambitiously implementing our certified environmental management system according to ISO 14001 and our energy management according to ISO 50001.

Simply Good Projects for the Environment (1)

48

Efficient Use of Wind Energy – Hybrid Ventilation

Besides various free cooling systems, since 2011 A1 has also deployed hybrid ventilation, which takes advantage of wind as a natural source of energy. This enables the air conditioning systems to lower their electric power consumption by 75 %.

Energy Efficient Air Conditioning with Hotspot Suction

“Hot-Spot-Absaugung” is an efficient cooling process for equipment rooms, in which the rising warmth is directly suctioned off. This enables the air conditioning systems to lower their electric power consumption by up to 50 %.

Electricity from Solar Power

A1 gets 67 % of its electric power from renewable sources. In addition A1 relies on its own production of electricity from sun and wind. Besides a large photo voltaic system in the Technology Center several smaller PV systems and wind turbines are being tested.

Good Products for the Environment (2)

49

Electric Charging Stations – Green Innovation

Since 2010 A1 has been turning telephone booths into electric charging stations, thereby supporting environmentally-friendly electro-mobility. A1 itself has a small e-fleet with four electro-cars, 1 e-scooter and 20 e-bikes.

Cycle to Work

The “A1 Bike Initiative” has created incentives and conditions to motivate employees to ride their bikes to work more often.

A1 Mobile Phone Recycling – Green and Socially Responsible

A1 wants to conserve resources and thus enables its customers to turn their old mobile phones in to A1 shops for environmentally-friendly recycling. For each used mobile phone A1 donates four euros to the organization “kinderhände”.
