Thiess in IndonesiaIn Indonesia since 1972, thiess began operations as a service provider for a number of construction projects. the company was incorporated with the Government of Indonesia in 1988, as Pt thiess Contractors Indonesia and has delivered more than 150 projects across the archipelago in just over 25 years.

today, thiess in Indonesia plays a pivotal role in delivering for the resource sector and building vital infrastructure for the economy. the company currently employs over 6,600 people to support projects in Kalimantan, Sulawesi and java.

In 1992, the company established the thiess Indonesia Apprenticeship Program. Over 1,000 apprentices have received technical training through the Australian tAFE-certified program in electrical, mechanical and welding trades.

thiess recognises that growth and development of our people is key. At present, we have about 6,600 employees and each one is given the opportunity for training and development of skills and knowledge.

Our employees regularly undergo specific, customised technical and leadership development programs. this often includes a three to six months on-the-job training across our operations.

the company operates a dedicated training centre in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, where extensive training courses are offered.

TRAINING AND DEvELOPMENT CENTREthiess’s training and Development Centre (tDC) located in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, was established in 1992, to provide training and development of necessary skills that enable our employees to confidently take on additional responsibility and advance through our organisation.

At tDC, thiess is developing our people through:

» Secondments to overseas business units

» Mobile equipment simulators and onsite classes

» Management Development training program

Over the years, tDC has grown to be one of the largest training facilities in Indonesia and it also serves as the homebase for our apprentices in the thiess Indonesia Apprenticeship Program.

ThIESS INDONESIA APPRENTICEShIP PROGRAMthe thiess Indonesia Apprenticeship Program was established in 1992, with just eight participants. today, 1,000 apprentices have gone through this technical training program, which was recognised as the best apprenticeship offering in Indonesia by the Ministry of Manpower in 2008.

Each year, on average, there are 400 apprentices enrolled in various stages of their electrical, mechanical or welding trades. Courses run for four years.

we maintain relationships with a number of Indonesian and Australian institutions to ensure that the training programs are recognised both domestically and internationally. Moreover, the schemes are Australian tAFE-certified.
