Education- transforming lives

Chambal believes that only education can

transform the lives of children and youths. Our

intervention is based on the concept of ‘Pre-

School to Livelihood’; therefore, it has

developed a long term sustainable model of

education by adopting Government

educational institutions - from balwadis (pre-

School) to Senior Secondary Schools &

Industrial Training Institutes.

Since starting of comprehensive educational program in 2012, 42 Government Schools and 36

aanganwadis are adopted by CFCL. The target beneficiaries of this program are around 6600

children. We have partnered with Pratham Education Foundation, Motion Education Development

Society (Motion IIT) and Pratham Infotech for remedial education for students. We have renewed the

MoU in 2017 to further extend our support to these schools for a period of 5 years from 2017 to 2022.

For adoption of aanganwadis, we have done MoU with ICDS department under Nandghar Yojana.

Vision –

Status of Schools before adoption

The intervention was initiated with a baseline survey of adopted Schools. Some of the key findings of

the survey were as follows

• Early age admission in Schools in absence of Aanganwadi services compelled parents to

enroll their wards in formal Schooling directly

• Students in Primary classes were not able to read and write the simple text of Class 2nd.

• In Upper Primary section it was observed that the poor base of Primary classes affects the

learning level of the student. The students in Upper Primary classes are not able to

understand the high level text of the classes.

• Poor learning levels of students studying in class 9th-10th, particularly in science subjects,

forcing children to opt humanities subjects for further studies.

• In absence of appropriate financial support to maintain the infrastructure, the condition of

School infrastructure was deplorable & not conducive to provide quality education to the child.

Poor condition of the Schools buildings & unavailability of electricity supply, toilets for boys &

girls led the parents admit in private Schools.

• Unhygienic conditions in Schools and classes

• Unavailability of potable drinking water in School premises

• Unavailability of separate toilets for boys and girls, which affected the enrollment of children

especially girl child in government Schools

Balwadi intervention

CFCL started its intervention in Aanganwadis to provide

educational support to children. Prior to intervention it

was observed that root cause of low learning level of

children enrolled in Government Schools is early age

admission in Schools in absence of Aanganwadi

services. Chambal adopted aanganwadis under the

Nandhghar scheme and transformed them on

kindergarten concept providing pre-Schooling to child and preparing them for formal education.

Chambal has engaged Pratham Education Foundation to

strengthen the educational component in Aanganwadi

centers. We have deployed teachers who work with the

aanganwadi workers to provide educational support to the

children.

Introduction of Uniform

In order to bring sense of discipline among children, Chambal along with Uttam Samiti started uniform

distribution in each adopted Aanganwadi. This initiative has benefitted over 600 children of 36

aanganwadis.

Classroom development in centers

All Aaanganwadis are now equipped with round table to study and learning with ease. Carpets, mats,

water camphor, utensils & necessary amenities were also provided in all centers.

Learning with fun

In each aanganwadi, games & other educational

equipment were provided to make education a fun activity

for the children. These learning tools help the children to

understand the concept with ease.

Training of Aanganwadi teacher & Anganwadi

Worker’s

Chambal organizes periodic training programs of aanganwadis worker’s to develop competencies of

Aanganwadi workers to understand the social, cognitive and motor learning skills of children of age

group of 3-5. Refresher training programs are also organized on frequent basis to strengthen capacity

on balwadi curriculum framework. Following topics under the training module-

• Curriculum of “KALOL”

• Understand social, cognitive & motor learning skills of children

• Supporting educational development of the child with the concept of LKG & UKG & management

of two groups

• Development of teaching, learning lesson plans

• Maintaining health component in aanganwadi-Promoting health & hygienic practices amongst

children

Primary Education Chambal's Primary Education Initiative is implemented in collaboration with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan.

As per the baseline assessment, it was found that, more than 80% students of class 5th were not able

to read and write text of class 2nd. The condition was deplorable as the students were not able to

perform basic operations of mathematics and language subjects. The situation was alarming as the

students were not able to understand their curriculum based education.

Chambal engaged Pratham Education

Foundation to improve the learning levels of the

students. In initially, main focus was given on

strengthening the reading, writing &

comprehension of texts of specific grades. With

continuous efforts students are able to read,

write & comprehend text of their grade.

Teaching learning materials, worksheets are

also provided to ensure level wise inputs. In AY

2017-18, the team started intervention with

grade specific content in language and math in Primary section.

Secondary & Senior Secondary Education

Secondary education remains a key phase of students’

life as student starts thinking for his/ her career goals &

subjects for higher studies. The condition of the

education system in Secondary education was very

dismal as most of the students were not able to

understand the class 4th text. A huge gap between the

class level and understanding level was surfaced

during the baseline assessment.

The root cause identified was absence of subject specific teachers and unsystematic paper pattern.

This has affected the students’ learning ability & selection of career options as most of the students

turned towards arts stream subjects for higher studies. This has further affected their career options.

To make a change in this condition, concept of “remedial classes” was adopted in Secondary and

Senior Secondary government Schools. The concept has shown a remarkable improvement in

learning levels of the students.

Chambal has engaged with educational institutes Motion Educational Development Society from Kota

to improve the overall learning quotient of students. Outstanding results being witnessed in 10th &

12th Board results from the past few years. Chambal has also collaborated with Rashtriya

Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) to strengthen the government resources.

Specialized teachers of major subjects like English, Mathematics, Science, Political Science,

Geography, English and Hindi are providing regular remedial classes in morning and evening hours.

In 2016-17, we have witnessed sharp increase in the board results of the students.

Study Materials

We are providing specific course material to each

students to support his/ her learning. Chapter wise

notes, question banks, class notes were made

available to all students from class 6th to 12th so that

they may get an extra edge from other students of

private Schools. Teaching material is prepared by

special team of MOTION IIT who are profound in their

subject. Over 5000 students are benefitted under this

activity.

Computer Literacy Program

Connecting the students with the Information

technology and computer literacy programs is one of

the key objectives of education program. This

initiative aims at providing computer education in 42

government Schools. Curriculum based computer

education was introduced from Primary classes so

that children can gain expertise as they advance to

senior classes.

Under this program computer laboratories were established in partnership with Pratham Infotech

Foundation. The training modules and curriculums are developed keeping in view the demand of

computer professionals and employability in industries. These initiatives are well aligned with vision of

our Prime Minister to extend digital literacy to one and all. Over 6000 students are getting benefitted

through our digital literacy program.

Digital Literacy Exhibitions

In order to sensitize community digital India campaign, we

have introduced digital literacy campaigns in community. In

order to spread awareness towards cashless transaction

students have exhibited their model based on the cashless

modes transactions. Students have illustrated model on Use

of ATM Machine, Online Banking System, CPU and monitor, functions of computer etc.

Essential Educational Items support

To strengthen the educational component, Chambal has

provided study material & class notes to each students

enrolled in the government Schools. To encourage the

students to get regular education, Chambal facilitated

students with Bags, Sweaters, & stationery materials.

Performance & 80% attendance in the year was made a

criteria to encourage more and more student to attend School regularly and perform to the best of

their capacities. Around 6600 students got benefitted during the FY 2017-18 under this initiative.

Health Check Up –

Healthy brain exists in healthy body, and therefore Chambal

ensures that all students from 42 Schools and 39

Aanganwadi gets the best health checkup and remedies. A

renowned Delhi based Organization School Health Annual

Report Program (SHARP) is engaged by CFCL to organize

regular health camps in all adopted Schools.

Annual Cultural Program (SAMVARTIKA)

“Samvartika 2017” - an annual function of adopted schools

and aanganwadis is organized in the month of October

2017. Samvartika gave opportunity to students to showcase

their talent in front of an august gathering of officials from

district administration and education department, teachers,

parents and community members. The event ended up at a

very high note creating an atmosphere of emotions and happiness among all as the audience realized

the makeover these children have gone through during past couple of years. The message was loud

and clear, that if given an opportunity we are no less than any private School.

Felicitation of Meritorious Students

These interventions are resulted as great

success in each level. The board exams remain

key parameters to check the efficacy of the

program. The success of the program cannot

be justified if the students are not able to

perform their best in the board exams. In order

to keep students motivated, we are organizing

felicitation of meritorious students every year.

Our intervention towards infrastructure development of the Schools

Conducive environment plays significant role in learning process. Chambal now ensures that all the

Schools are equipped with facilities including good infrastructure, proper sanitation, drinking facilities,

sports facilities, computer laboratories, etc.

To begin with, we renovated School buildings in first phase of the program followed by construction of

separate toilets for boys and girls. We renovated classrooms, principal rooms & other infrastructure to

improve the condition of the School building. Most of the Schools were not having toilet facilities in

campus which affected the enrollment rates in Schools. We constructed separate toilet blocks for girls

and boys in each School. In 2014-15, we constructed 42 Girls toilet blocks in 42 Government Senior

Secondary Schools of Sultanpur Block of Kota District.

Electricity supply & necessary electrical appliances were not present in government Schools.

Chambal ensured that each School should have proper electricity connection & necessary electrical

appliances in each classroom to support the education. Apart from this, we have developed sports

facilities, libraries, computer education, and science van to support overall development of the

students. Today these Schools are completely transformed to provide best educational environment

to the students.

Construction of girls’ toilet

Chambal’s intervention has resulted in various

positive outcomes including sharp reduction in

School dropout rates and higher enrollment

rates of girls in these Schools. Few years back

there were hardly any girls enrolled in Senior

classes. It was also observed that, due to

absence of separate sanitation facilities girls

were forced to leave Schools. It is worth to mention that toady after Chambal’s intervention 55%

enrolled students are girl child.

This makes a significant difference in a place where no focus on girl child was given in past.

Significantly over 95% girl students are now completing their education up to Senior Secondary level

and entering into higher education and skill development initiatives. Apart from this Chambal has also

constructed separate girls’ toilets in 39 other Schools in Sultanpur block of District Kota to bring back

the girl child to mainstream education.

Development of pathways

Access to School buildings was one of the needs

identified during need assessment surveys. It was

observed that during the rainy season students were

facing trouble to reach to School building and

therefore there was a dip in attendance. Similarly

muddy ground and sanitation condition further

worsened the situation. To overcome such conditions and to ensure attendance, playgrounds,

gardens and pathways were developed in phased manner in all Schools. We have constructed

pathways in 12 Schools in FY 2016-17.

Sports facilities

It was realized the need of extracurricular activities

among students. The company took a step towards

setting up facilities for an all-round development of

child. To encourage young minds towards

extracurricular activities sports facilities have been

developed in all adopted Schools. During the year

Volley ball, Basketball, Table tennis and Carom board facilities were provided in Bhonra, Gadepan,

Bamori, Motikuan, Simliya Girls, Darbiji, Kakrwada, Kundanpur, Pachra Schools. Sports Day is now a

regular feature in all our Schools.

Education wall painting

“School Building as Teaching Learning Aid”, to execute

this concept, Chambal has taken up project of

beautification of School wall. Under this initiative

educational painting like geometrical shapes, fraction,

time, measurement, significance of tress, animals, etc.

This created conducive environment in Schools and

helped in quick learning. 23 Schools have been covered under this initiative.
