From The Pastor’s Desk ing, crafts, jumping rope, PLUS raking, trimming, planting, edging, mowing, gardening, painting, and walking the dog. You get up at 5:30 AM and you have no time to eat, sleep, drink or go to the bathroom, and yet ... you still managed to gain 10 pounds.

#2 – Halloween Jokes: A photographer goes to a haunted castle determined to get a picture of a ghost on Halloween. The ghost he encounters turns out to be friendly and poses for a snapshot. The happy photographer later downloads his photos and finds that the photos are underexposed and completely blank. Moral to the story: The spirit is willing, but the flash is weak.

Joe: What do you call wood when it’s scared? Bob: I don’t know. Joe: Petrified!

Michael: What treat do eye doctors give out on Halloween? Matthew: I don’t know. What? Michael: Candy corneas.

Brett: What do mummies like listening to on Halloween? Brent: I don’t know. Brett: Wrap music!

Bill: Why did the policeman ticket the ghost on Halloween? McKenzie: Why? Bill: It didn’t have a haunting license.

Max: What would you find on a haunted beach? Sam: I’m stumped. Max: A sand-witch!

John: Why didn’t the skeleton like the Halloween candy? Mark: Why? John: He didn’t have the stomach for it!

Sam: What do you call a cleaning skeleton? Frank: I don’t know. Sam: The “grim sweeper.” #3 – A man is walking down the beach and comes across an old bottle. He picks it up, pulls out the cork and out pops a genie! The genie says, "Thank you for freeing me from the bottle. In return I will grant you three wishes." The man says "Great! I always dreamed of this and I know exactly what I want. First, I want one billion dollars in a Swiss bank account." Poof! There is a flash of light and a piece of paper with account numbers appears in his hand! He continues, "Next, I want a brand new red Ferrari right here." Poof! There is a flash of light and a bright red, brand-new Ferrari appears right next to him! He continues, "Finally, I want to be irresistible to wom-en." Poof! There is a flash of light and he turns into a box of chocolates.

Fr. Murphy

Dear Parishioners,

This week we will celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints (November 1st). This is a holy day of obligation. The Vigil mass will take place on Wednesday, October 31st @ 4 p.m. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be suspended from 4 to 5 p.m. during the mass and resume afterwards. The Masses of the Day will occur on Thursday, November 1st at 9:00 a.m. & 7:00 p.m.

All Souls Day occurs on Friday, November 2nd. We will remember all of our deceased loved ones, friends and pa-rishioners at the 9:00 a.m. mass. Also, like last year, we will have a Book of Remembrance where all the names of your deceased loved ones will be placed in church for the month of November. If you wish to have your deceased loved ones in this book, you can do so by putting their names on your All Souls Envelopes. You will find those envelopes in your mailings or the church and vestibule tables. Any kind of con-tribution is welcome.

I will attempt to post a video album of my trip to Portugal and Spain on our parish website. Also, as I mentioned at the Sunday masses last weekend, I highly encourage you to hear about this wonderful and inspiring Camino experience from the coordinators of Ultreia and Suseia: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Palm Coast – October 31st @ 5 p.m.; St. Joseph Renewal Center in St. Augustine – November 3rd @ 10 a.m.; St. Anastasia Catholic Church in the new parish center – November 4th @ 12:00 p.m.

Do not forget about the EWTN Family Celebration at the Prime Osborne Center in downtown Jacksonville. This take place on Saturday, November 3rd. It is a free event.

Many of our snowbirds are returning to the parish. Just a reminder that they are invited to sign up as an adorer or substitute during the week for the time they are residing in Florida. We invite them to join up with adoration. We are still experiencing some gaps in adoration time slots, espe-cially on Friday. 5 to 6 p.m. and 8 to 9 p.m. we very few who can cover those hours. Please keep Our Lord company for one hour. That’s all we ask. And, it will be the best time you will experience.

And now some funnies:

Today is the feast of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales, the first representative body of many Catholics who died for their faith between 1535 and 1679 to be beatified or canonized. Almost all of them died at Tyburn, a place of pub-lic execution near today's Marble Arch in Hyde Park, London. The first to suffer were Carthusian monks who refused to swear an oath supporting Henry VIII as supreme head of the Church in England, and the last was Saint Oliver Plunkett, the Primate Archbishop of Ireland. The method of execution was particularly vile, since the condemned were hanged and their living bodies quartered to be displayed around London as a horrific warning. Today, the tree-like gallows provides the design of a reli-gious symbol, the canopy over the altar of the martyrs in Tyburn Convent. There, at the heart of the bustling city, a monastic community of women practices contemplative prayer and "spiritual hospitality" in the Benedictine tradi-tion. Oddly, the community is French in origin; it was ex-pelled from France a century ago when France outlawed contemplative monastic life. England, where the laws against Catholicism had been lifted, invited the community in. In gratitude to their new homeland, and in honor of those who gave their lives for the Catholic faith, the nuns came to Tyburn. In the public crypt, coats of arms stand for each of the 350 martyrs.
