THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF SOUTH COLUMBUS COLUMBUS, OHIOTHE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF SOUTH COLUMBUS COLUMBUS, OHIO
FROM THE PRIESTFROM THE PRIEST
I often wonder whether or not I am able to see God’s glory and presence in my life because of unbelief or even sin...
Faith assists us to see what is hidden to our naked eyes and we see that throughout Scripture of seeing with the eyes of faith (Abraham seeing God)...
This weekend’s Gospel asks us whether or not we are ready to see God’s glory because He’s eager to share His glory with us! The disciples see Jesus “transfigured” on the mountain, His face changed in appearance and His clothes became white as the light, like Moses’s meeting with God on Mount Sinai! In fact, Jesus appeared in glory with Moses and Elijah on the mountain!
This appearance is important because Jesus knew full well what would happen to Him in Jerusalem – betrayal, suffering, and death on the cross. Jesus probably discussed what would happen to Him in Jerusalem with Moses and Elijah and God, which God gave Him approval.
Jesus not only wants us to see His glory, but He wants to share His glory with all of us! And for us to receive that glory, Jesus shows us the way to glory – to follow Him, obey His words and take the path He has chosen for us!
Jesus followed the path God gave Him because He willingly went to Jerusalem and suffered and died on Calvary so that our way to Heaven could be restored, so that we can receive that glory that is waiting for all of us!
We should follow Christ in the way of the cross – by dying to sin, and embracing His will for our lives, so we can have true joy and peace with God!
May we always stay alert and awake to Him, His word, and His presence in our lives so we can see His glory!
• Pray for Pope Francis and all who lead the Church, especially Bishop Brennan.
• Pray for those affected by natural disasters and acts of violence throughout the world (COVID-19; violence due to racism; Myanmar; oil spill in Israel; Nigeria military plane crash; floods in Indonesia; snowstorm recovery in Texas).
• Pray for the repose of the souls of Aurora Stanley (parishioner of St. Ladislas) and Beverly Durthaler (parishioner of Corpus Christi) who passed away last week. May they rest in peace.

increases their weekly giving or switches to online giving, we are matching the funds up to $50,000.00 until March 21st! Please check the bulletin for more details or call the Parish Office!
• Please register for our participation in the 40 Days of Adoration during Lent sponsored by the diocese. Our date is March 12 – please try to sign up for the evening! Confessions will be provided from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
• Every Wednesday during Lent, we have Adoration/Benediction from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with the Sacrament of Reconciliation being heard at St. Mary’s. Please come and Adore the Lord!

DISCIPLE MAKER INDEX SURVEY – We need 100% Participation
Our South End Parishes will be participating in the Diocesan-wide Disciple Maker Index (DMI) Survey between now and March 22. This nationally recognized survey has been administered at parishes around the United States and Canada since 2013. As part of the Diocese of Columbus Real Presence Real Future planning process, we will participate in this survey during Lent. The results from our parish survey will not only be used for information and planning for our own parish, but will also be included in national results which track trends, growth and Church-related opportunities nationwide. The survey seeks to provide parishioners an opportunity to reflect on their spiritual growth as well as provide parish leadership with invaluable insights regarding a parish’s strengths and opportunities. You can take the survey online at https://www.catholicleaders.org/columbusdmi or via a paper copy available at the parish through March 22. This is an exciting opportunity for our parishes, and I hope you will participate.

Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. – Zoom Meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85334052895As we enter into Lent this week, we wanted to remind parishioners of the opportunity that exists to help children who need and deserve a supportive and safe home environment. Lent is a time of the year when families are looking to do more in support of those who need their help. We would like to connect the interest that people have to help with the need that exists in our community.

THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF SOUTH COLUMBUS COLUMBUS, OHIOTHE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF SOUTH COLUMBUS COLUMBUS, OHIO
Corpus Christi, St. Ladislas and St. Mary Finance CouncilFebruary 22, 2021 | 7:00 p.m.
I. Council Co-Chair: After a brief discussion, David Kozman agreed to accept the role of co-chair of the joint Finance Council until the end of the current term – June 30, 2021.
II. Review of the bylaws: After a discussion there was a motion to accept the St. Mary Finance Council Charter as the governing document for the joint finance council with some modifications was made by Mary Beth Krecsmar and seconded by David Kozman. Motion passed.
• Modifications to the bylaws:◦ Membership should be proportional – that is, there will be 6 members from St. Mary Parish and 6 members from Corpus Christi and
St. Ladislas parishes. (They have been operating a joint council for some time.)◦ Terms will be 3 years, with 2 members from St. Mary and 2 members from Corpus Christi/St. Ladislas turning over each year.
▪ Motion to accept these modifications was made by Fr. Vince and seconded by Tim Sprosty. Motion passed.
• Roger Minner will work with members of council to make changes to the document and circulate for comment.
III. Results and Key Statistics: It was agreed that the financial affairs of Corpus Christi and St. Ladislas would be voted on by members from those parishes, and the affairs of St. Mary would be voted on by members from St. Mary. It was also agreed that the expenses incurred that cut across all three churches will be paid by the entity in which it is registered but divided in thirds and reimbursed to the parish that paid – such as the pastor’s salary, pastor’s benefits, rent expense, etc. Paula Banks reported for Corpus Christi and St. Ladislas.
• Corpus Christi: Paula noted that there has been no significant gains or losses in the month. She reported that one Corpus Christi employee departed so the salary line was a bit higher due to paying that employee to the end of the month. She also noted that, due to her now working for all three parishes, her pay is divided. Finally, she noted that rent expense for Fathers housing will be divided among the three churches and will begin showing on Corpus Christi reports next month.
• St. Ladislas: No significant gains or losses for the month. Fr. Vince described a “Sister Parish” relationship that St. Ladislas has with Our Lady of Lourdes in Marysville whereby the Marysville parish makes a donation to St. Ladislas approximately twice each year. The January financial report shows this revenue totaling just over $6,000.00 and is split between Promise on Parsons (evangelization activity) and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.◦ A motion to accept the Corpus Christi financial reports was made by Mary Beth Krecsmar and seconded by David Kozman. Motion
passed.
• St. Mary: Roger Minner provided a summary of the Profit and Loss for the month and noted that a small amount of January hit the bank in February so will show in next month’s report. Roger noted that YTD revenue is approximately $5,800 less than plan and YTD expenses are approximately $19,000.00 less than plan.
• There was no change in the Capital Campaign report from the last meeting; Roger Minner reported that a check to the diocese for $47,000.00 was in line to be sent this week and will be reflected in the next financial report.
• The topic of the unbilled natural gas from the church came up. Roger and Paula reported that the bill had just arrived, and that the amount that was not previously billed for the church building amounts to $15,434.00. A motion to take the discussion offline with a few St. Mary members to discuss and propose a response was made by Isabelle Billet and seconded by Bill Smith. Motion passed.◦ A motion to accept the St. Mary Financial reports was made by Tim Sprosty and Seconded by Isabelle Billet. Motion passed.
IV. School update
• Fr. Vince reported that principal Kayla (Walton) Elrich resigned her position effective at the end of the school year. A search for a new principal is under way; the decision is ultimately made by the Bishop. Due to the resignation, teacher contracts are on hold and will be addressed by superintendent Adam Dufault.
• Enrollment is holding steady at around 362 youth; however, the grades are fluctuating with preschool losing a significant number of enrollees and other grades gaining some.
• Building project: the committees are assessing the use of the existing buildings to ensure space is being used correctly and efficiently and identifying overlapping needs between the school and the parish. They are considering the entire space as one campus. The architectural firm is MKC.
V. Old Business
• The online matching gift program officially launched on the weekend. The letter from Father was sent and received; he will be following up with an email. There will be weekly updates and in-person assistance for those who request it.
VI. New Business
• The Triennial Financial Report for Corpus Christi and St. Ladislas prepared by the Diocese had been sent out ahead of the meeting. There were mainly administrative findings, but overall the findings were favorable. There are lessons that were learned that will be applied to St. Mary for their own review which should take place this fall.
