Abdellah, PhD, RN, FAAN, has retired from the position ofDean and Professor of the Graduate School of Nursing at the UniformedServices University of the Health Sciences. In honor of Dr. Abdellah’sachievements as a national pioneer in nursing research, as an expert inhealth policy, and for making invaluable contributions to the health of thenation, the Faye G. Abdellah Endowed Chair has been established tocontinue research in military nursing science. Her successor is PatriciaHinton Walker, formerly Dean of Nursing at the University of Colorado.• Janet D. Allan, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been appointed by PresidentDavid J. Ramsay, DM, DPhil, as Dean of the University of MarylandSchool of Nursing. Allan also serves as the vice chair of the US PreventiveServices Task Force.• Connie Barden, RN,MSN, CCRN,CCNS, is the new president of theAmerican Asociation of Critical-Care Nurses. Dorrie Fontaine, RN,DNSc, FAAN, is the president-elect.• Joanne Disch, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been sworn in as a member of theAARP Board of Directors. She is among six new board members elected toa six-year term. Disch also serves as a member of the American Academy ofNursing Board of Directors.• Margaret Ecklund, MS, RN, CL, CCRN, has succeeded Elizabeth M.Nolan, RN, MS,CS, as chairman of the board of the American Associationof Critical-Care Nurses Certification Corporation. Suzanne Prevost,RN, PhD, will serve as chair-elect for 2002-03.• Judith Fitzgerald Miller, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been appointed interimdean of the College of Nursing at Marquette University.• Susan B. Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been awarded the presti-gious Ann Magnussen Award in recognition of her outstanding contribu-tions to strengthen and improve American Red Cross programs andservices. It is the highest honor of nursing achievement in the AmericanRed Cross. Hassmiller currently serves as a Board of Governor for theAmerican National Red Cross.• Barbara R. Heller, EdD, RN, FAAN, Dean of the University ofMaryland School of Nursing, has been appointed Executive Director ofthe newly established Center for Health Workforce Development at theUniversity of Maryland Baltimore and Rauschenback Distinguished Pro-
fessor, an endowed professorship dedicated to the improvement of nursingand nursing education through research and teaching.• Bonnie Jennings, DNSc, RN, FAAN, has been selected as the AAN/ANF/Institute of Medicine Scholar-in-Residence. In March, 2002, Dr.Jennings retired as a colonel with 32 years of military service. During herfinal tour of duty, Dr. Jennings worked for the Office of the AssistantSecretary of Defense for Health Afairs as the Deputy Director for HealthProgram Analysis and Evaluation.• Jeanie Kayser Jones, RN, PhD, FAAN, Professor of GerontologicalNursing, Director of the University of California-San Francisco/John A.Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, has received the 2002Regional Geriatric Nursing Research Award from the Western Institute ofNursing (WIN) in partnership with the Hartford Institute of GeriatricNursing, New York University. This award was given in recognition of thesubstantial and sustained contributions of her research to improve thequality of care of long-term care patients.• Madeline Wake, PhD, RN, FAAN, has been appointed the newMarquette University Provost. Dr. Wake has served as an administratorand faculty member at Marquette since 1977.• Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN, FAAN, Director, Center for Rural Health,University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences, hasbeen reappointed to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commisssion (Med-PAC). The commission’s 17 members serve three-year terms.• Suzanne K. White, MN, RN, FAAN, was recently appointed byGovernor Hodges to the South Carolina State Board of Nursing.• Carolyn Yucha, RN, PhD, Associate Dean for Research at the Univer-sity of Florida College of Nursing, has been appointed editor of the journalBiological Research for Nursing.

Nurs Outlook 2002;50:100-13), Shirley MayHarmon Hanson should have been the only editor listed for the book FamilyHealth Care Nursing: Theory, Practice, and Research, 2nd edition, listed under theheading “Family Nursing.”
