All students and staff have returned refreshed and rejuvenated with big smiles. Term 3 always presents a busy term with Year 12 completing the last full term of their secondary education, Foundation and Year 7 transition programs will commence, whilst other year groups will begin new units of work or new subjects with the semester 2 timetable changes. It is hard to believe we are in the second half of the year already! This term, in a little over two weeks, Mrs Jose Miller and Mrs Sarah Klippel will be taking the Year 9/10 Indonesian students on their Indonesian trip. These immersion experiences impact students greatly, creating lifelong memories and strong cultural education. Thank you to both Mrs Miller and Mrs Klippel for making this experiences happen - how lucky we are to have such opportunity. Today the Year 4-6s have the Winter Sports Carnival in Wodonga, including soccer, netball, and football. We wish all students the best of luck. Whilst three students; Hayley Whitsed, Zac Whitsed and Jess Damm ran in the SSV State Cross Country on Thursday. The three of them did an absolutely awesome job with final results; Hayley - 19th, Jess - 76th and Zac - 47th. Well done to them all, what champs! Dont forget the hospitality students are running a High Tea, Sunday 29th July at 10am and 1pm. Please make bookings via the front office. Write August 3rd in your diary, for Year 5/6 students will be presenting the film Plastic Ocean to the college community. This is in their efforts to raise awareness of the detrimental effect of waste on the environment. Please come and support them in their endeavours as they are working so hard to create greater awareness for our environmental concerns. Year 2 show their passion of writing to East Timor students Ms Leitch has delivered a brilliant experience for both, a very grateful class of East Timor students and our Year 2 students in writing and sharing creative stories. Ms Leitch explains: Last term Grade 2 created stories that had to include a problematic event/occurrence and then a solution to learn how to engage their readers. They had to plan, draft, edit, publish and illustrate their stories which were individually bound. At the same time the students were developing gratitude and empathy by learning a little bit about daily life for students in East Timor. Our finished books were then sent with a teacher group visiting East Timor. The books were delivered to the English Club of Fatuquero School in Gleno, a hilly and remote area of inland East Timor. The students were delighted to receive the books as the school does not have many resources such as books in English. A big thank you goes out to our Year 2 students and Ms Leitch for facilitating such a great project. The Big Freeze - A great day for MND by all! The last day of term 2 saw the Big Freeze take place with students and staff taking the plunge in a freezing ice pool. A big thank you to all the students and staff that were involved; Mrs Marshall, Mrs Scott, Ms Austin, Ms Kovacic, Mr Sinclair, Mr Heycox, Georgia Bandy, Tom Ross, Brawley Foxcroft, Mitchell Grogan, Mitchell McColl, Lacey Middleton, Kasey Harrison, Hannah McCullum, Tom Sheather, and Charlie McKimmie. Just in the Big Freeze Beanies (which are now a part of the official winter school uniform) students made $1600 and $1200 in donations, a total of $2800. Well done to all staff and students that made this such a great day of awareness and fundraising for MND. A big thank you to Mildren & Coysh and Smith s Ice for the donation of 95 bags of ice. Have a look at our College Facebook page for some great photos and videos. I have to apologise for the error in the last KIT as I had stated it was Neale Daniher that presented. This was Heidi Hodge. Heidi was brilliant for our students in her heartfelt presentation. I apologise for this mistake and thank Heidi for her brave delivery to our college. Week 1, term 2 an inspirational week for Year 11 & 12 - more news to come... This week has been an inspirational week for our Year 11 & 12 students as they were introduced to Australian Adventurer Tim Cope. Tim Cope delivered his story of riding on horseback with his canine companion - Tigon, from Mongolia to Hungary over a 3 year period (2004-2007), approximately 10,000km. Whilst our VCAL students met with music artists and were inspired to create their own musical recordings. If you are in contact with Year 11 & 12 be sure to ask them of these amazing experiences theyve had this week. A student write up of their own newsletter reports will be presented in next weeks KIT. There are many events this term. Please keep an eye on the calendar and read all notes sent home. Thank you. Wishing you all a great term ahead. Fran Heath College Principal

BOOKWEEK-19TH—24TH AUGUST

Each year across Australia, the Children Book Council of

Australia brings children and books together celebrating CBCA

Book Week. The theme for this years Book Week is “find your

treasure”. The Junior campus will be having a book character

parade to celebrate Australian children's literature. The parade will

be held on Thursday 23rd August. All students have the

opportunity to come dressed up as a character of their favourite

book they treasure, or it could be a character that’s relates to

Treasure, for example a Pirate or a character from Peter Pan.

Students can bring along their favourite book their character

appears in from home or they can borrow the book from the

library. A detailed letter of events will come home next week.
