Note: Mobile data deviees are eonsidered to be USB Keys and Portable USB Hard Drives for thefollowing reasons:1. These are the deviees which were central to the two inCidents in late 2012.2. These are the deviees speeifically refereneed in the Minister's commitments.3. These are the deviees whieh are subject to new usage limits as a consequence of the USB StoraDeviees Directive adopted by the department on January 11, 2013.

With regard to government-purehased mobile data deviees:(a) how many were in use by the Department of Human Resourees and Skills DevelopmentCanada (HRSDC) prior to January 11, 2013, broken down by typeof deviee and HRSDCdepartment;15,600 USB Keys and 159 Portable USB Hard Drives were recovered by HRSDC sinceJanuary 11, 2013. There is no estimate of how manywere in active use (see (b)).

(b) what is the total eost paid by the government for the deviees identif ied in (a); .USB Keys cost approximately $10 to $50, the larger capacity deviees costing more. As we do notknow how many of the 15,600 were procured by the department versus provided through sorne ethemeans (persona! keys, gifts, promotional items, provided by other departments, etc) it is not possibleto estimate a total cost paid by the government.

(e) how many of the mobile data deviees identified in (a) have :For part (c), the information is not available by department. The tracking of USB keys by Branch wanot possible because half of these deviees were returned anonymously. The Portable USB HardDrives were not tracked by branch when recovered.(i) been reealled by the departmentsinee January 11, 2013, broken down by type of deviee anHRSDC department;15,600 USB Keys and 159 Portable USB Hard Drives were recovered by the department sinceJanuary 11, 2013.(ii) have been destroyed sinee January 11, 2013, broken down by type of deviee and HRSDCdepartment;Ali of the 15,600 USB Keys recalled have been destroyed since January 11, 2013.(iii) will be destroyed, broken down by typ of deviee and HRSDC department;159 Portable USB Hard Drives will be destroyed.

(g) has the department (i) purehased, (ii) made plans to purehase new mobile data deviees toreplace those recalled and destroyed, and, if so, (iii) how many new deviees will be purehaseand at what eost, broken down by type of deviee and HRSDC department?2,338 Encrypted USB Keys have been purchased at a cost of $250,000.40 USB Encrypted Portable Hard Drives have been purchased at a cast of $20,000.s of January 11, 2013, new stricter protocols were implemented. Portable hard drives are notpermitted, unless encrypted and specifically authorized. Unapproved USB keys are not to beconnected to the network.

Il n'existe aucune estimation du nombre qui tait utilis (voir b)).b) combien le gouvernement a-t-il pay en tout pour les appareils indiqus au point a);Le cot approximatif des cls USB varie de 10$ 50$ et le coat des dispositifs de plus grandecapacit est plus lev. Puisque nous neconnaissons pas la proportion des 15 600 dispositifs qui ont achets par le ministre par opposition ceux qui ont t obtenus par d'autres moyens (clspersonnelles, cadeaux, articles promotionnels, dispositifs fournis par d'autres ministres, etc.), il n'espas possible d'estimer le cot total assum par le gouvernement.

c) parmi les appareils indiqus au point a), combien :Pour ta partie (c), l'information n'est pas disponible par direction. le suivi de la reprise des cls USBn'a pas t possible puisque la moiti de ces dispositifs ont t retourns de manire anonyme. g) le ministre (i) a-t-il achet, (ii) prvoit- il acheter de nouveaux.appareils de donnes mobilepour remplacer ceux qui ont t rappels et dtruits, et si c'est le cas, (iii) combien denouveaux appareils achtera-t-il, et quel cot, ventils par type d'appareil et par direction deRHDCC?2 338 cls USB chiffres ont t achetes un cot total de 250 000 $.40 disques durs USB portables chiffrs ont t achets un cot total de 20 000$.Depuis le 11 janvier 2013, de nouveaux protocoles plus svres ont t mis en uvre. Les disquesdurs USB portables sont interdits, sauf s'ils sont chiffrs et spcialement autoriss. Les cls USB noautorises ne doivent pas tre connectes au rseau.
