E lectronics Policy 2017-18 – We discussed the effectiveness of current policy (see meeting agenda). Policy states that third offense will result in keeping phone until end of quarter. Council agreed this wouldn’t work. It was discussed that there should be a warning by teacher, second warning by teacher, if phone is not put away it will be sent to the office. Terri discussed that phones turned into administration are logged and kept in a secure location. It was suggested that students be required to complete detention time for repeat offenders. There is concern that teachers need to be consistent in following the policies as well. Crosswalk Safety – Granite School District is aware of concerns with the lack of crosswalk safety and will be helpful in finding a solution. Terri will contact Don Adams, Assistant Superintendent to further discuss the problem. The student who was hit in the crosswalk is back to school but is experiencing PTSD and has asked for a vest to wear while crossing the street. Freshman Academy: Freshman Academy has been initiated in response to parent concerns about supporting 9 th graders in their transition to High School. This year geography teachers spend 20 minutes each class to discuss the Freshman Academy curriculum. Those who were still struggling are now attending a Freshman Academy class. Next year freshman students will choose from one of the following classes: Freshman Academy, LIA or Avid. If the school determines they no longer need support at the semester they can opt out. Cottonwood will incur increased cost for a new teacher. Curriculum includes goal setting and test taking skills, how to use the Utah Futures program for career options, guest speakers, etc. Second half of the year may also include credit recovery.

• Misc. – 3 boys and 3 girls were chosen to represent Cottonwood at Boy/Girls State

Terri and committee are concerned with 30% of seniors who are on the edge of graduating. They discussed each individual and made plans for helping them finish.
