ABSTRACT: -

Who knew in this modern era we would have to live like this in this pandemic situation through

the world? COVID-19 which is spreading very fast through the globe has shaken not only the

global powers but also the countries with the top-class medical facilities.

Being a responsible citizen, we can follow social distancing to avoid gathering. For this reason,

the ultrasonic sensor is used along with Arduino UNO, buzzer, 5v Dc power supply, connection

wires, breadboard, potentiometer(15kohm) to count the number of persons present at an instant

of time at a closed space and alarming the organizer when the number increases the limit.

1.INTRODUCTION:

On 31 December 2019, World Health Organization was notified of cases of pneumonia for some

unknown virous effectiveness in China. On a search of the cause of the pandamonia Chinese

authorities was identified the virous and was temporarily named it “2019-nCoV”. Coronaviruses

(CoV) are a large genealogy of viruses that cause sickness depends on human body immunity

system .comonly cold and fever are the symptom of this virous. Coronavirous can mutate in

asymptomatic human body too. This new strain of novel corona virous has not been identified in

humans formerly. This strain of Corona virous can mutate faster than the old strains. The new

strain was eventually called the “COVID-19 virus”.

The project is known as ‘Counter to avoid gathering situation in a confined place during

(COVID-19)’, can be beneficial for our society to maintain The social distancing process and

keep the virous controlled .In less than an hour we can simulate the circuit and can make the

device ready to perform . The device is used to count the number of persons entering a

hall/mall/home/office or any other place at the entrance gate and it will count the number of

peoples leaving the hall by decrementing the count value at the same gate or exit gate. This

project is particularly useful for the environments where social distancing can’t be easily

maintained.

2.PROBLEM DEFINITION:

Since March a complete lockdown had been imposed on local trains. West Bengal government

and Indian Railways on 2 November, Monday agreed to resume local train services on the

Eastern Railways and South Eastern Railways. To begin with, only 10 to 15% trains will operate

with 50 % seating capacity. The number of trains could be increased upto 25% after Diwali. A

maximum of 600 passengers would be allowed on local trains which holds the seating capacity

of 1,200 each. Before the lockdown started on march 2019, more than 11 lakh passengers

travelled by the local and suburban train services at Howrah and Sealdah stations of the Eastern

Railways everyday. But that’s not the actual incident that follows in the trains. No social

distancing norms are followed in platforms as well as in train compartments to curb the

gathering among people.

3.PROPOSED SOLUTION:

As no such safety measures against COVID-19 is taken in railway platforms and coaches, we as

a group of B. Tech. student proposed a solution of counting people near the doorways to ensure

that limited people (600 out of 1200 seats) enter the coaches and once the limit has been

reached, unique sound will occur. Thus, ensuring that not more than the mentioned number of

people board the coaches to maintain social distancing. This concept can also be implemented in

elevators of office or apartments where people gather occasionally.

4.WORKING:

We often can see visitor counters at the stadium, mall, offices. Today we are with a solution

using bidirectional visitor counter projected on Arduino Uno. This project is based on the

compiling some of the components like sensors, buzzer etc. with Arduino microcontroller. This

counter can count the number of people moving in both directions. This circuit is to be used to

count the number of peoples entering a hall/mall/home/office or any other crowding place at

the entrance gate and it will count the number of peoples leaving the hall by decrementing the

count value at the same gate or exit gate. It can also be used at gates of mass gathering

areas and other public places.

FIG 1:- Block diagram

Page 4: Counter to avoid gathering situation in a place during

Stage 1: ultrasonic sensor (I) sends ultrasonic waves in forward direction and if any obstruction

is present within a specified range it reflects back and is received by the sensor. This leads to

increase in the counter 1 (count1) value by one at a time.

Stage 2: ultrasonic sensor (II) sends ultrasonic waves in forward direction and if any obstruction

comes into its path within a specified range it will be reflects back and will be received by the

sensor. This leads to increase in the counter 2 (count2) value by one at a time.

Stage 3: the net value by subtracting value of counter2 from counter1 gives the total number of

peoples present in the hall at any instant of time.

Stage 4: if the net value increases by a specified limit then the buzzer will be activated.

All this process is controlled by the microcontroller (Arduino UNO board). According to the

stages, the values and instructions will be displayed on the lcd screen.

5.CIRCUIT EXPLANATION:

We have taken a development board Arduino UNO with a power supply of 5v DC, its digital

pins { 7(TRIG),6(ECHO)} are connected to ultrasonic sensor I. It helps to count the number of

entries in the place. Its digital pins { 8(TRIG),9(ECHO)} are connected to ultrasonic sensor II. It

helps to count the number of exits and total present in the place. Pin 10 is connected to the

buzzer terminal. Pins (2,3,4,5,11,12) are connected to a 16x2 LCD display which displaces the

above- mentioned data. This total setup is to be placed on the way to the hall so that everyone

has to be in range of the device to enter or exit from the hall.

FIG 3:- THE COUNTER DETECTS TWO PERSONS CROSSING THE DOOR AND HENCE IT IS

DISPLAYED IN THE 2X16 LCD.

THE COUNTER DETECTS ANOTHER TWO PERSONS THAT IS TOTAL OF FOUR PERSONS

CROSSING THE DOOR. HENCE FOUR IS DISPLAYED IN THE 2X16 LCD.

FIG 5:- AFTER THE SECOND ROUND OF OUT TEST, THERE WERE FOUR PERSONS PRESENT

IN THE ROOM OR RATHER CROSSED THE DOOR. IN THE THIRD TEST, ONE PERSON

CREOSSES THE DOOR AND AS A RESULT HE/SHE IS DETECTED. NOW THE DISPLAY

SHOWS FIVE THAT IS FIVE PERSONS HAVE ALREADYCROSSED THE DOOR ALONG WITH

ANOTHER MESSAGE THAT THE HOUSE IS FULL THAT IS MAXIMUM LIMIT OF PERSONS

WHO CAN GATHER HAS REACHED.

FIG 6:- THIS FIGURE IN PERTICULAR IS DIFFERENT FROM THE REST AS WE CAN SEE

THE BUZZER RANG AFTER THE SIXTH PERSON CROSSED THE DOOR AS A TOTAL

FIVE PERSON CAN GATHER TOGETHER. IN THE DISPLAY IT IS SHOWING SIX PERSON.

7.FLAW IN THE SYSTEM:

If a person coming towards the entry and he/she is in range of the device then he/she will be

counted by the device, but from the gate only if the person decides to leave then his exit will not

be counted.

8.FUTURE SCOPE:

Later on, Temperature Sensors measure the amount of heat energy or even coldness that is

generated by an object or system. Thermal sensor can be added for automatic checking if any

individual passes it, thermal sensor simply detects body heat. When it comes to door counters,

thermal sensors detect the body heat radiating off people as they walk past the sensor. High

sensitivity of the thermal sensor allows them to work more efficiently over a small temperature

range. As a result it would be more accurate if it is implemented along with the Ultrasonic sensor.

Cloud computing helps to maintain a database of previous numbers counted by thermal sensors.

This feature creates a new accessibility on door counter from anywhere and anytime.

9.CONCLUSION:

Now in these critical time it is mandetory to maintain social distancing so that hike in corona infection cases can be controlled. Places or facilities where gathering occurs requires visitor

monitoring to maintain certain number of people at a time not more than that, and sometimes it's not possible to assign a person to keep that in check. So if we can implement this system in the

entrance crowd control can be managed in an effective and hustle free manner
