tails Be sure to check out all that is available to you with your clubs county and state

Fremont County 4-Hrsquoers Aiming for Adventure

This year Logan Wood of the Riverside Rockets was chosen to serve on the Iowa State

4-H Council This year he will not only be a full-time delegate but installed as a newly

selected Council member for 2011-2012 Billy Dyke of the Silver Skylarks and Preston

Schaaf of the Riverside Rockets will be initiated into the Iowa State

Technology Team The installation ceremony will be conducted on

the last day of the Conference

This event is being held June 28-30 at Iowa State

The conference will consist of a gathering of more than 1000 youth delegates residential

life in Iowa State residence halls educational fun innovative workshops motivational speakers enriching community

service projects evening entertainment activities dances bowling casino night swimming an Iowa picnic formal

banquet and a chance to share your talents and creativity in the Talent Show

General Rules

1 Each contestant must be at least 16

years of age and not more than 21

years of age on the first day of the

Iowa State Fair

2 Contestants must never have been

married or have children

3 A county fair queen must reside in

the county or an adjoining county if

the majority of her activities are in

the county

4 Each contestant must be an active

member of at least one service or-

ganization in her community such as

a church group Girl Scouts 4-H etc

Eligibility is not limited to 4-H

membership

5 No professional model (one who

has had ongoing employment in

which modeling was the primary part

of the job) is eligible to compete

6 The Iowa State Fair will provide a

sash and crown for each county fair

to award their queen at the county

fair

7 The contest will be held Sunday

prior to fair

We are excited to report that over 20 youth have turned in their applications for the

2012 CWF trip There is much to organize and plan between now and June 2012

Please read the following guidelines and pre-requisites

CWF QUALIFICATIONS

4-H record book must be completed and turned in for the two years prior to CWF (2010 amp 2011)

Must have completed two years of club work immediately prior to Washington DC trip Must be a Senior 4-H member and completed sophomore year of high school at trip time Must carry citizenship project during year of trip

Must attend training sessions as much as possible Must participate in money making projects or have parent substitute (fair food stand amp cherry pie) Contribute monetarily if unable to help

Contact Extension Office in advance if not attending meeting Final selection made by Youth Committee

CWF EXPECTATIONS

Active 4-H member for the two years prior to CWF (2010 amp 2011) Turn in Record books two years prior to the trip Submit Record book for year of trip (2012) Enroll in the Citizenship Project and show project sheets in the Record Books Participate in club activities community service Participate in fair activities Participate in Cherry Pie Contest Participate in the Food Stand during fair Attend training sessions as much as possible

Rain barrels conserve water provide mineral-rich water for plants and animals

improve ground water quality and help prevent erosion and flooding

YOUR CLUB CAN PARTICIPATE IN A PROJECT TOGETHER and RAISE MONEY FOR CWF

Each 4-H Club has received one rain barrel kit and includes one 55-gallon food-graderecycled drum over-

flow hose and all fittings Once your have completed the barrel please promote the ldquopricerdquo of your hard

work and display it around town and the county fair

Prep Clean and dry your barrel If its sides are glossy you might sand the surface lightly Use tack

cloth or vacuum residue Prime Its a good idea to prime your barrel first You will want to purchase

plastic primer The same kind thats used for plastic furniture Paint Use outdoor acrylic paint such as exterior house

paint to paint your barrel Use up old paint from past projects Check out the SWAP Shop at the Fremont County Land-

fill Some artist have used Krylon Fusion or RustOleum spray paint Finish After the paint has dried completely apply

one or two coats of spray on polyurethane Once dry be sure to promote its worth

With last yearrsquos success in the project of

Table Setting Region 17 will again host

its regional event in Fremont County

Participants select a theme and dis-

play one table setting including table

covering dishes glassware silver-

ware centerpiece and menu

Youth will first compete in their county

and winners in each age group Junior

Intermediate and Senior 4-H

Grade divisions and in each category

Formal and Casual for a maximum of six

entries per county will be invited to com-

pete in the Region 17 finals Regional winners will gather on

Wednesday August 3

This corresponds with the 88th Annual

Sidney Championship Rodeo held August

2-6 Wednesday August 3rd is set aside

as 4-H night and all members in uniform

will be admitted FREE

The 2011 Iowa State Fair 4-H market broiler entry form is online and available on

the poultry page

Fremont County 4-Hrsquoers Aiming for Adventure

This year Logan Wood of the Riverside Rockets was chosen to serve on the Iowa State

4-H Council This year he will not only be a full-time delegate but installed as a newly

selected Council member for 2011-2012 Billy Dyke of the Silver Skylarks and Preston

Schaaf of the Riverside Rockets will be initiated into the Iowa State

Technology Team The installation ceremony will be conducted on

the last day of the Conference

This event is being held June 28-30 at Iowa State

The conference will consist of a gathering of more than 1000 youth delegates residential

life in Iowa State residence halls educational fun innovative workshops motivational speakers enriching community

service projects evening entertainment activities dances bowling casino night swimming an Iowa picnic formal

banquet and a chance to share your talents and creativity in the Talent Show

General Rules

1 Each contestant must be at least 16

years of age and not more than 21

years of age on the first day of the

Iowa State Fair

2 Contestants must never have been

married or have children

3 A county fair queen must reside in

the county or an adjoining county if

the majority of her activities are in

the county

4 Each contestant must be an active

member of at least one service or-

ganization in her community such as

a church group Girl Scouts 4-H etc

Eligibility is not limited to 4-H

membership

5 No professional model (one who

has had ongoing employment in

which modeling was the primary part

of the job) is eligible to compete

6 The Iowa State Fair will provide a

sash and crown for each county fair

to award their queen at the county

fair

7 The contest will be held Sunday

prior to fair

We are excited to report that over 20 youth have turned in their applications for the

2012 CWF trip There is much to organize and plan between now and June 2012

Please read the following guidelines and pre-requisites

CWF QUALIFICATIONS

4-H record book must be completed and turned in for the two years prior to CWF (2010 amp 2011)

Must have completed two years of club work immediately prior to Washington DC trip Must be a Senior 4-H member and completed sophomore year of high school at trip time Must carry citizenship project during year of trip

Must attend training sessions as much as possible Must participate in money making projects or have parent substitute (fair food stand amp cherry pie) Contribute monetarily if unable to help

Contact Extension Office in advance if not attending meeting Final selection made by Youth Committee

CWF EXPECTATIONS

Active 4-H member for the two years prior to CWF (2010 amp 2011) Turn in Record books two years prior to the trip Submit Record book for year of trip (2012) Enroll in the Citizenship Project and show project sheets in the Record Books Participate in club activities community service Participate in fair activities Participate in Cherry Pie Contest Participate in the Food Stand during fair Attend training sessions as much as possible

Rain barrels conserve water provide mineral-rich water for plants and animals

improve ground water quality and help prevent erosion and flooding

YOUR CLUB CAN PARTICIPATE IN A PROJECT TOGETHER and RAISE MONEY FOR CWF

Each 4-H Club has received one rain barrel kit and includes one 55-gallon food-graderecycled drum over-

flow hose and all fittings Once your have completed the barrel please promote the ldquopricerdquo of your hard

work and display it around town and the county fair

Prep Clean and dry your barrel If its sides are glossy you might sand the surface lightly Use tack

cloth or vacuum residue Prime Its a good idea to prime your barrel first You will want to purchase

plastic primer The same kind thats used for plastic furniture Paint Use outdoor acrylic paint such as exterior house

paint to paint your barrel Use up old paint from past projects Check out the SWAP Shop at the Fremont County Land-

fill Some artist have used Krylon Fusion or RustOleum spray paint Finish After the paint has dried completely apply

one or two coats of spray on polyurethane Once dry be sure to promote its worth

Table Setting Region 17 will again host

its regional event in Fremont County

Participants select a theme and dis-

play one table setting including table

covering dishes glassware silver-

ware centerpiece and menu

Youth will first compete in their county

and winners in each age group Junior

Intermediate and Senior 4-H

Grade divisions and in each category

Formal and Casual for a maximum of six

entries per county will be invited to com-

pete in the Region 17 finals Regional winners will gather on

Wednesday August 3

This corresponds with the 88th Annual

Sidney Championship Rodeo held August

2-6 Wednesday August 3rd is set aside

as 4-H night and all members in uniform

will be admitted FREE

Fremont County 4-Hrsquoers Aiming for Adventure

This year Logan Wood of the Riverside Rockets was chosen to serve on the Iowa State

4-H Council This year he will not only be a full-time delegate but installed as a newly

selected Council member for 2011-2012 Billy Dyke of the Silver Skylarks and Preston

Schaaf of the Riverside Rockets will be initiated into the Iowa State

Technology Team The installation ceremony will be conducted on

the last day of the Conference

This event is being held June 28-30 at Iowa State

The conference will consist of a gathering of more than 1000 youth delegates residential

life in Iowa State residence halls educational fun innovative workshops motivational speakers enriching community

service projects evening entertainment activities dances bowling casino night swimming an Iowa picnic formal

banquet and a chance to share your talents and creativity in the Talent Show

3 A county fair queen must reside in

member of at least one service or-

ganization in her community such as

a church group Girl Scouts 4-H etc

Eligibility is not limited to 4-H

5 No professional model (one who

has had ongoing employment in

2012 CWF trip There is much to organize and plan between now and June 2012

Please read the following guidelines and pre-requisites

CWF QUALIFICATIONS

4-H record book must be completed and turned in for the two years prior to CWF (2010 amp 2011)

Must have completed two years of club work immediately prior to Washington DC trip Must be a Senior 4-H member and completed sophomore year of high school at trip time Must carry citizenship project during year of trip

Must attend training sessions as much as possible Must participate in money making projects or have parent substitute (fair food stand amp cherry pie) Contribute monetarily if unable to help

Contact Extension Office in advance if not attending meeting Final selection made by Youth Committee

CWF EXPECTATIONS

Rain barrels conserve water provide mineral-rich water for plants and animals

improve ground water quality and help prevent erosion and flooding

YOUR CLUB CAN PARTICIPATE IN A PROJECT TOGETHER and RAISE MONEY FOR CWF

Each 4-H Club has received one rain barrel kit and includes one 55-gallon food-graderecycled drum over-

flow hose and all fittings Once your have completed the barrel please promote the ldquopricerdquo of your hard

work and display it around town and the county fair

Prep Clean and dry your barrel If its sides are glossy you might sand the surface lightly Use tack

cloth or vacuum residue Prime Its a good idea to prime your barrel first You will want to purchase

plastic primer The same kind thats used for plastic furniture Paint Use outdoor acrylic paint such as exterior house

paint to paint your barrel Use up old paint from past projects Check out the SWAP Shop at the Fremont County Land-

fill Some artist have used Krylon Fusion or RustOleum spray paint Finish After the paint has dried completely apply

one or two coats of spray on polyurethane Once dry be sure to promote its worth

Table Setting Region 17 will again host

its regional event in Fremont County

Participants select a theme and dis-

play one table setting including table

ware centerpiece and menu

Youth will first compete in their county

and winners in each age group Junior

Intermediate and Senior 4-H

Grade divisions and in each category

Formal and Casual for a maximum of six

entries per county will be invited to com-

pete in the Region 17 finals Regional winners will gather on

Wednesday August 3

This corresponds with the 88th Annual

Sidney Championship Rodeo held August

2-6 Wednesday August 3rd is set aside

as 4-H night and all members in uniform

will be admitted FREE

flow hose and all fittings Once your have completed the barrel please promote the ldquopricerdquo of your hard

General Rules

1 Each contestant must be at least 16

years of age and not more than 21

years of age on the first day of the

Iowa State Fair

2 Contestants must never have been

married or have children

3 A county fair queen must reside in

the county or an adjoining county if

the majority of her activities are in

the county

4 Each contestant must be an active

member of at least one service or-

ganization in her community such as

a church group Girl Scouts 4-H etc

Eligibility is not limited to 4-H

membership

5 No professional model (one who

has had ongoing employment in

which modeling was the primary part

of the job) is eligible to compete

6 The Iowa State Fair will provide a

sash and crown for each county fair

to award their queen at the county

fair

7 The contest will be held Sunday

Please read the following guidelines and pre-requisites

CWF QUALIFICATIONS

4-H record book must be completed and turned in for the two years prior to CWF (2010 amp 2011)

Must have completed two years of club work immediately prior to Washington DC trip Must be a Senior 4-H member and completed sophomore year of high school at trip time Must carry citizenship project during year of trip

Must attend training sessions as much as possible Must participate in money making projects or have parent substitute (fair food stand amp cherry pie) Contribute monetarily if unable to help

Contact Extension Office in advance if not attending meeting Final selection made by Youth Committee

Why Make A Rain Barrel

FUNDRAISER FOR CWF AND CLUB PROJECT

CITIZENSHIP WASHINGTON FOCUS

We are excited to report that over 20 youth have turned in their applications for the

2012 CWF trip There is much to organize and plan between now and June 2012

Please read the following guidelines and pre-requisites

CWF QUALIFICATIONS

4-H record book must be completed and turned in for the two years prior to CWF (2010 amp 2011)

Must have completed two years of club work immediately prior to Washington DC trip Must be a Senior 4-H member and completed sophomore year of high school at trip time Must carry citizenship project during year of trip

Must attend training sessions as much as possible Must participate in money making projects or have parent substitute (fair food stand amp cherry pie) Contribute monetarily if unable to help

Contact Extension Office in advance if not attending meeting Final selection made by Youth Committee

CWF EXPECTATIONS

Active 4-H member for the two years prior to CWF (2010 amp 2011) Turn in Record books two years prior to the trip Submit Record book for year of trip (2012) Enroll in the Citizenship Project and show project sheets in the Record Books Participate in club activities community service Participate in fair activities Participate in Cherry Pie Contest Participate in the Food Stand during fair Attend training sessions as much as possible

Rain barrels conserve water provide mineral-rich water for plants and animals

improve ground water quality and help prevent erosion and flooding

YOUR CLUB CAN PARTICIPATE IN A PROJECT TOGETHER and RAISE MONEY FOR CWF

Each 4-H Club has received one rain barrel kit and includes one 55-gallon food-graderecycled drum over-

flow hose and all fittings Once your have completed the barrel please promote the ldquopricerdquo of your hard

work and display it around town and the county fair

Prep Clean and dry your barrel If its sides are glossy you might sand the surface lightly Use tack

cloth or vacuum residue Prime Its a good idea to prime your barrel first You will want to purchase

plastic primer The same kind thats used for plastic furniture Paint Use outdoor acrylic paint such as exterior house

paint to paint your barrel Use up old paint from past projects Check out the SWAP Shop at the Fremont County Land-

fill Some artist have used Krylon Fusion or RustOleum spray paint Finish After the paint has dried completely apply

one or two coats of spray on polyurethane Once dry be sure to promote its worth

its regional event in Fremont County

Participants select a theme and dis-

play one table setting including table

ware centerpiece and menu

Youth will first compete in their county

and winners in each age group Junior

Intermediate and Senior 4-H

Grade divisions and in each category

Formal and Casual for a maximum of six

entries per county will be invited to com-

pete in the Region 17 finals Regional winners will gather on

Wednesday August 3

This corresponds with the 88th Annual

Sidney Championship Rodeo held August

2-6 Wednesday August 3rd is set aside

as 4-H night and all members in uniform

will be admitted FREE

4-H Tip Sheets Help Youth Prepare For County Fair Judges

2) What steps did you take to learn or do this Explain what you wanted to do so it is easily understood The judge wants to know and understand the steps you used to make your exhibit 3) What were the most important things you learned For child development exhibits be pre-pared to explain bullWhat you learned about children or what the children gained by using the items in the exhibit

For all exhibits be prepared to explain

1) What did you plan to learn or do (What was your exhibit goal(s) )

NEW THIS YEAR

Tip Sheets have been created to

help 4-Hrsquoers prepare for the judging

process within each Project Area

The Tip Sheets provide criteria

(whatrsquos the judge looking for) and

other helpful information regarding

the evaluation of a project Remem-

ber it is important that the judges

see ldquolearningrdquo in each 4-H exhibit that

is brought to the fair

Judges will also be using the tip

sheets as they prepare for visiting

with each 4-Hrsquoer about their exhibits

Animal and Other Project Updates REGIONAL TABLE SETTING 2011 4-H ANIMAL ID SHEET INFO

With last yearrsquos success in the project of

Table Setting Region 17 will again host

its regional event in Fremont County

Participants select a theme and dis-

play one table setting including table

covering dishes glassware silver-

ware centerpiece and menu

Youth will first compete in their county

and winners in each age group Junior

Intermediate and Senior 4-H

Grade divisions and in each category

Formal and Casual for a maximum of six

entries per county will be invited to com-

pete in the Region 17 finals Regional winners will gather on

Wednesday August 3

This corresponds with the 88th Annual

Sidney Championship Rodeo held August

2-6 Wednesday August 3rd is set aside

as 4-H night and all members in uniform

will be admitted FREE

ALSO

4-Hrsquoers who will be

showing dogs or cats

at the Fremont County Fair

need to have a current

rabies vaccination for

each animal to be shown

Animal projects to be shown at the Fre-

mont County Fair that are not weighed in

and tagged on a county-wide basis must

be identified on an animal identification

(ID) sheet by the 4-H or FFA member and

on file at the Fremont County Extension

office on or before May 15

TWO YOUTH CANNOT IDENTIFY

THE SAME ANIMAL ON

THEIR ID SHEETS

This includes projects such as breeding

beef bucketbottle calf cow-calf pair

dairy cattle dairy goats dogs feeder

calves horses llamas meat goatsdoes

pets poultry rabbits sheep PB ewes

only and swine breeding only

ID Sheets are specific to the animal

being shown and there are different

ID sheets for various animals

All Vet Camps are from 1-3 pm and held on Friday August 12 through Monday August 15
