Tina and David Chase, of Winscombe, couldn't believe their luck after Tina bought the £5 Merry Millionaire scratchcard in Tesco at Station Road, Cheddar, on a whim on Christmas Eve. After scratching off the symbols to reveal the win, Tina took her card back to the shop. Tina 53, a former housekeeper, said: "I gave the scratchcard to the shop assistant to check, which she did. She told me to take a deep breath." Tina – who had only ever won up to £20 on scratchcards – then dashed to her sister's house in Cheddar where they checked the win with Camelot. RELATED CONTENT "We just couldn't believe it when Camelot confirmed the win," said Tina. "I had only ever won smaller amounts before, it is still sinking in." The first person Tina told was her husband David and, once she had convinced him it wasn't a wind up, or a mistake, he put the scratchcard in his wallet for safe keeping over Christmas. The couple then rang their children Alec, 31, Craig, 29, and Holly, 25, to share the good news. Tina said: "We rang them to share the good news, but they didn't answer their phones. When they saw we had rang them they initially thought something was wrong. It is the best Christmas present ever."
