“A whole is greater than the sum of all the parts”

The bearing capacity of two pieces of wood joined is greater than the sum of the two pieces individually, while the curative effect of two drugs used together is greater than that of each drug used individually.

This proves 1+1 equals 3 or even more.

This is Synergy

Synergy

Synergy is organizational innovation, or creative cooperation.

We can only attain the highest state of synergy by having all the four natural gifts (self-awareness, conscience, imagination and independent will) , win-win motivation, communication skills and empathy.

Synergy can not only open new horizons, but also ignite human potential to achieve the maximum.

Exploring the third adaptive plan

Creative cooperation is to find an approach of consensus, that is, the third adaptive plan. This plan not only satisfies both parties, but also brings them closer.

Respect differences!

The most important point in a cooperation is to emphasize the psychology, mood and intelligence of individuals, and different worlds as seen by such individuals.

Self-righteous people tend to see themselves as objective and others are biased. They are the ones suffering self-confinement.

Modest people admit their shortcomings, and proactively seek knowledge and vision in their communication with others. They value different opinions and enrich themselves as a result. This is exactly what Confucius said, “Among three persons walking with me, at least one of them can be my teacher”.

Converting resistance to a booster A booster is normally a force that is positive, reasonable, conscious,

and cost effective. On the contrary, resistance tends to be negative, passive, illogical, emotional, unconscious, social and psychological.

If you can call into play the win-win motive, empathy communication and synergic efforts, you can not only break the resistance, but also convert it into a booster.

What things do you think act as a booster?

Page 20: Course 13 Teamworking(for Student)(090325)

Pride!

Is pride a booster?

Valuing personal involvement Personal involvement decides the success or failure of an organization.

The more personal engagement in solving problems, the greater personal creativity you can exert, and the more recognition you will receive for your achievements.

Even in the most unfavorable circumstances you can still integrate yourself. Ignore attacks by others, try to solve negative resistance, and discover the strengths of others to make up for your weaknesses. In a deadlock, seek a third possibility.

Surviving Perils at Sea

When the yacht you are steering sails in the South Pacific, a sudden fire destroys the ship, and the ship sinks. You do not know your current direction or position. You can only estimate your ship is about 1800 km away from the closest land. The are 15 items shown in the table are kept intact in this disaster. Apart from these 15 items, there is only a rubber life raft and oars left, but the raft can only accommodate you, the crew and the 15 items. Personal belongings of everybody are limited to a pack of cigarettes, three boxes of matches and several 5-dollar banknotes.

Your task is to decide which things are necessities and which can be dropped in order to lessen the weight of the raft. Please write 1 by the most important item, 2 by the second most important, and so on until the 15th item.
