*Key concepts and brief history of pre-Islamic Turkish religions such as Shamanism, Mannheism, Buddhism Karayism (Karaylık), Christianity and their influences on Turkish culture. *A survey of the characteristic phases of Turkish thought and religions by using old literary and historical material. *The comparative treatment of the religious concepts and manner of the other cultures with consideration of basic religious and mythological themes and motifs.

Objective of the Course (Learning Outcomes)

At the end of the courses, students should be able to *Explain key concepts and brief history of pre-Islamic Turkish religions such as Shamanism, Mannheism, Buddhism Karayism (Karaylık), Christianity and their influences on Turkish culture. *Have an idea about characteristic phases of Turkish thought and religions by using old literary and historical material.

At the end of this course, the student who successsfully finishes the course is expected to express Kracaoğlan’s identity, life and tradition; to explain the characteristics of Karacaoğlan’s poetry and illusrate on specific examples; to examine the influence of Karacaoğlan style on oral poetry and oral music; to analyse the meaning and function of Karacaoğlan tradition within the socio-cultural contexts in modern times in the frame of a field work.

socio-cultural contexts.

Objective of the Course (Learning Outcomes)

At the end of this course, the student who successsfully finishes the course is expected to explain the general, regional and local features of Turkish folk dances on the certain examples; to define the current approaches in the study of folk dance, to analyze the relationship between dance and group identity and musical movement and symbolical expression; and to research on the meaning and the function in folk dance in the frame of a dance event within the socio-cultural contexts.
