GCSE RETAKESAll Sixth Form students have the opportunity to re-sit GCSE English Language, Maths and CoreScience of they have not achieved a C grade in each of these subjects. It is an expectation that students without Maths and/or English complete retakes in thesesubjects.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE GCSE CONTACT: MISS M PEELING

This course is designed for all students who need to retake English GCSE to obtain a C grade. It is a demanding course, which really needs motivation and reasonably mature, independent studyhabits. Students learn and practise the skills needed to get a good GCSE grade rigorously; it is also anenjoyable, stimulating year full of heated debate, mind mapping and generous support/idea-sharing.

There are opportunities to sit the GCSE paper in November and/or June.

MATHEMATICS GCSECONTACT: MR S ROSSITER

This course is designed for students who have not yet obtained a grade C in Mathematics GCSE. Theteaching focuses on this goal and does not attempt to prepare for higher tier entry.

The course runs until the GCSE exams in May. However, some students who only narrowly missed a Cpreviously may opt to sit a re-take paper in November; results are received in January. As aconsequence all students follow the course until at least January.

ELECTIVES PROGRAMMECONTACT: MRS B DAVIS / MR T INMANWhat is the Electives Programme?

A full Sixth Form education contains more than just good passes in key exams. This is why weplace a very high priority on our Electives Programme – the opportunity for students to broadentheir range of talents and interests. This is an area that higher education institutions and futureemployers are looking for more and more to help determine who they will take on. There arechances to learn new skills, to contribute to the school or local community and to have fun.

Who takes part in Electives?

Every Sixth Form student must be enrolled on at least one core Elective option. Accepting aplace in the Sixth Form in Year 12 or 13 assumes a commitment to meet this request.

How many Elective options do I take?

In response to feedback from students in previous years the programme now allows manystudents to experience two different Elective options during the academic year. These run fortwo twelve-week periods (September – December and late January – May). Other courses runacross the whole year due to the time commitment required to complete these courses.

Does my Elective option ‘count’ towards anything? Some Elective options lead directly to a qualification, such as the Open University Modules, whilst others do not. We encourage all students to enrol in the ‘V Involved’ Scheme, which givesawards to young people for accumulating ‘voluntary hours’. This can include many of theElective options as well as other volunteering that you carry out during your time in the SixthForm.
