● Planning your 8 period schedule as well as reviewing your core academic classes
● What to consider when selecting electives● Possible electives that fit your current Career Pathway● Credits earned and completing graduation requirements● Course selection timeline ● How to view your “Academic Plan/Progress”
Planning Your 8 Period Day Putting This Puzzle Together
● Your day consists of 5 Core Classes: English, Math, Social Science, Science and PE/Health + Lunch = 6 Periods.
● If you would like to move up a level in a class next year, please notify your counselor
● You have 2 electives to choose in order to complete your 8 periods. (Electives are classes that do not count as Core)
Physical Education Choices
ALL Sophomores will take one semester of Health plus (choose from the following options)
1. Advanced Activities 2. Advanced Strength and Conditioning3. Athletic Performance PE (EG Athletes)4. Regular PE5. Lifestyle Fitness6. Educator Physical Education7. Dance (also counts as a Fine Arts requirement)
When Selecting Your Electives, Consider The Following
● Does this class help meet my future goals?
● Do they align with my Career Pathway/Program of Study?
● Are they Semester or Year-Long Classes?
● Am I Challenging myself?
● Did I take Personal Finance and complete my Fine Arts class?
Choosing an ELECTIVE from your Career Cluster
Your course selection worksheet is listed alphabetically by cluster with possible electives under each heading.
Find your cluster on the worksheet. Do you want to choose one of these classes as an elective in order to explore that career?

Health) Write the name of your PE choice on line 53. Let’s complete line 6 and 7 with your 2 electives (refer to your
cluster for assistance)
You should come prepared with a completed worksheet that includes 2 electives and an alternate as well
If you chose a semester long class (see legend), did you select another semester course for the other half of the year? Semester courses available are Art Survey, Personal Finance, American Law
or Study Hall.

Begins 2nd Semester
Must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
● Grades (C Average)● Attendance (no more than 5 absences) ● Community Service (5 hours)
Service tracking starts Semester 2 and the hours can not be entered until the start of 2nd semester
Deadline to enter service hours is July 17th

Step 1: On IC, use the menu on the left side and click on Academic Plan
Step 2: Click on Progress Report (look across the top)
Step 3: Click on Generate Report. Notice your career cluster is shown

After completing your one-on-one meeting you will have a completed chart
● 4-year plan based on your current career path (electives are chosen based on your career path)
● Green means your plan is complete● Pink means there are entries missing (in
this example, electives and PE classes still need to be entered)
● Test requirements will stay pink until you have taken the SAT and passed the Constitution (during USH)
● Remember this is always a plan in progress, electives can be changed
Dual Credit$
You can take courses here at Elk Grove AND get college credit. This will save you a LOT of money in the future.
