Seven-month course

This course provides everything needed to be a fully professional massge therapist in the core holistic area of activating the client’s energy. Massage with the Ki - the life-energy - quickly breaks down layers of stress that are typically holding a person back in their life, and provides an experience of relaxation which in many cases they may not have experienced since childhood.

Ki Massage - massage based on the life-energy in the person - is a therapy of life transformation both for therapist and client. The purpose of the therapy is to connect the client to life and energise their life in every respect.

From the very first moment that the client enters the room, this energy is working for them. All the patient has to do is lie on the plinth and let you as therapist take care of them.

Initially (or after a few treatments in some cases) the patient can expect to experience a feeling of lightness, as if a weight had been lifted off. This effect can last for days, even between treatments, and is usually accompanied

by an elevated mental outlook. From there it goes out to affect their whole life: they seem to attract good things to themselves, and their family, social and job situations all improve. From the beginning your patients should be told to expect these positive changes.

Disappearance of problems

It cannot be emphasised enough that a person’s whole life is an expression of the level of Ki that flows through them. Through Ki Massage, we unblock the stress in the body allowing energy to flow through it freely and this is reflected in the disappearance of problems.

To achieve results on this level requires a therapist who has the capacity to flow the energy of life itself through his or her hands during a treatment, and - most importantly - whose understanding of the process is clear enough.

The energy is known as Ki (also spelt Qi or Chi) or Prana. The required understanding is that the nature of the

Ki is perfection and intelligence, and its movement is outside thought. This in fact is the cornerstone of the Philosophy of Holistic Medicine.

Anyone can learn to do Ki Massage, but the results achieved are according to your level of understanding. In fact this might mean for instance that one person might take five treatments to achieve what a better therapist might achieve in two.

The Ki Massage Therapist’s art therefore, like the martial arts, is a study and a discipline involving continual practice and understanding.

DIPLOMA IN KI MASSAGE THERAPY

“Relaxation massage beats standard medical care for back pain” — top medical journal

Leading journal, the Annals of Internal Medicine, considered this so important that they made it their lead article in their July 7, 2011 edition. The study clearly shows that relaxation massage therapy beats standard medical care for Low Back pain.

Researchers from three leading U.S. universities, compared “relaxation massage”, “structural massage”, or “usual medical care” in 401 adults for chronic back pain.

Eight sessions of either type of massage proved much better than usual medical care, and relaxation massage emerged better on all scores than structural massage. Furthermore, the benefits lasted at least 6 months for each type of massage, with the relaxation massage still providing benefit after one year.

Ciara Hannon, Chartered Physiotherapist, Ki Massage Therapist, Pilates Instructor

“I really enjoyed the Ki Massage course - we were spoilt with the level of personal attention we got! By the end of the course I definitely felt confident that I was ready to put my new skills into action.

I love working with people in a relaxed environment. I’m mainly based in a physiotherapy and

pilates clinic. I find Ki Massage adds a hugely beneficial element to helping my clients return to their perfect health.

The results are so rewarding with people feeling physically and mentally lighter and much more energised. Despite the initial challenge of being newly self-employed, now I love the flexibility that it brings and look forward to expanding my business”.

Michael Gaines, Ki Massage Therapist, Dublin

“When I was a kid growing up, I could see how the adults around me were so stressed and how they’d argue unnecessarily as a result. In the back of my mind, I always wanted to work at something that would help to alleviate stress and tension.

Part of me knew if I could eliminate stress people would get on better with one another. I wanted to be part of that process, which is what Ki Massage is all about.

When clients come to me they relax to a depth that they may not have reached since childhood. I work part-time so massage is a fantastic way of supplementing my income. Basically I work part-time hours for full-time pay.

People work hard and are in stressful jobs so it is vital that they take time out to get a massage once or twice a week. They’re so busy and stressed earning money that their health can suffer.

Putting money before your health will only bring more stress. Ideally, you can have great health and money. Massage is a great way of staying stress-free and healthy.

This course is the reason I feel so competent as a therapist. The information was excellent and doing massage encouraged me to get fit and to take better care of my health”.

DIPLOMA IN HOLISTIC DIETETICS & NUTRITIONOne Year Course

Our course, now in its 28th continuous year, remains versatile, cutting edge, effective, unmatched in scope, and oriented to success in practice.

Science, naturopathy, anti-aging medicine, exercise and nutrition are combined in an exciting blend. Expect lots of study, but the reward is that you will gain clarity on the important concepts.

You will be able to make sense of what you read on the web - tell the facile and derivative and inaccurate from what’s new and significant. It’s certainly not the case that nutrition is cut, dried and established. There is much opinion and in fact room for many approaches which will be discussed on the course.

The course teaches the student how to make out diets for health, energy, weight loss, weight gain, figure / physique, beauty, good looks, sports performance, balanced family diets.

Scope

This course is aimed at those who wish to be self-employed in private practice or who wish to obtain employment in a health store, sports complex, health studio, beauty salon or with food supplement companies. It will be the perfect complement for those who are already in personal training, yoga, physical education or sports training.

Public interest in diet has never been greater as can be judged from the media. You can hardly take up a magazine or a newspaper without finding the latest super-diet. Yet, all this information tends more to confuse than inform and this is where the holistic dietician comes into their own.

This course offers a holistic approach which undoubtedly is the most effective. Many of the people who avail of your services will need to be taught relaxation to enable them to obtain maximum absorption of nutrients. If this aspect is overlooked it may lead to very poor results. Therefore, with this in mind, the course includes thorough training in relaxation and some basic psychotherapy to help you understand the part the mind plays in the production of energy. You will find yourself as a Holistic Dietician often making use of this combination of relaxation and right diet for maximum results. This will greatly expand your scope.

Topics

The course covers dietary systems based on:

1. The glycemic index (i.e., how quickly blood sugar is released by a particular dietary pattern), including

consideration of the popular Dr. Atkins programme.

2. The acid-alkaline balance, an older concept that has been the subject of much new and valuable research in recent years

3. The pro- or anti-inflammatory properties of foods, which is becoming recognised as an important factor in the development of many of the “diseases of civilisation”

4. The life-force concept, including enzyme nutrition, which underlies the traditional dietary recommendations in yoga and naturopathic medicine, and on which several nutritional healing systems for serious illness are based.

5. Anti-aging /rejuvenation nutrition. This includes a study of the advantages and limitations of nutritional supplements, including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients.

6. Macronutrient balance: how to get fast results by varying the amounts of protein, carbohydrate and fat in the diet.

7. How to influence your hormonal balance and how the hormones change with ageing.

WHAT OUR GRADUATES SAY

Aideen Reidy (Nutrition Consultant and Gym Manager)

“Obtaining the Diploma in Holistic Nutrition and Dietetics was the official seal of approval I needed to open doors for me in the health industry. Through the course I was offered work in a gym, within which I progressed from reception to manager in less than 5 months. The staff and clients alike benefit from the practical and cutting edge information I learned on the course, and I’ve even been invited to do a nutrition blog to share nutrition tips with class attendees on www.zumbagalaxy.com.”

Erika Doolan (nutrition consultant / menu planner restaurant business)

“The nutrition course is a really enjoyable, well structured course for anyone passionate about food and nutrition. You learn how food intake really affects health. You may want to start your career in this area or you may be a parent and simply want to know just how important nutrition can be for your growing child. Either way I would highly recommend this course, it was a real eye-opener!” http://www.erikadoolan.com

Caitriona Tierney(Holistic Dietician)

“The Nutrition course has allowed me to give the latest up-to-date health advice to my clients. Many simple changes in their diets and life-styles can have dramatic effects on their energy levels and well-being.

The course teaches you to use your intuition and develop your awareness to get to the root of a person’s ailments. It is incredibly rewarding to see the transformations that take place in people once you help them achieve their goals”.

Aideen Reidy received her Diploma from IAHM President Martin Forde

Michael and Helen Mc Carthy, Weight Management Consultants.

“From the second you go in there, before you open a book or listen to a lecture, you step into a holistic atmosphere.

You really learn to relate to another human being in great depth and that’s where the success lies. It is something you can’t get from books or on-line courses: it really helps that all the teachers are experienced practitioners themselves. And then, of course, with each course you get a fantastic, practical toolkit.

Between myself and my wife Helen we have done all the courses. I started with the Ki Massage and Helen with Yoga, and moved on to psychotherapy and nutrition. We just found each course so valuable and they have enabled us to totally switch direction into a much more fulfilling and successful line of work.”

DIPLOMA IN YOGA

One Year Course

This course provides all the necessary training to become a professional yoga instructor including yoga breathing, yoga postures to influence the cir culation and glandular systems, and yoga diet which is the foundation of healthy living. You

will also be qualified to teach relaxation, meditation and the philosophy of yoga - the life-changing aspects of yoga. Yoga as a profession has a certain glamour and mystique, with film stars, interna tional celebrities and world leaders eager to admit to its practice.

Suitable for those who wish to be self employed, working with individuals or classes whether from their own home or gym. Employment can also be obtained from a health/Sports centre, gym, community centre, schools and colleges. Large business organisations employ Yoga teachers to improve the health of their employees.

Yoga is the complete holistic system which brings benefits not only in terms of physical and mental health but also beauty and good looks. This may explain its attraction for film stars and others in pub lic view who need to look and feel their best all the time.

Yoga is considered to be the ultimate relaxation system and is used in the treatment and preven tion of high blood pressure, asthma, heart disease, cholesterol problems, cancer, etc.

COURSE OUTLINE

Performance of Yoga Postures

Aside from their obvious benefits for flexibility, body toning, increasing strength, fitness and aerobic capacity (increasing circulation and cardiovascular performance) yoga exercises serve to increase mindfulness, flow prana through the chakras, and bring about a balanced development of the glandular system.

Teaching Yoga Postures

This section of the course deals with initial screening of class members; performing a clear demonstration of each posture; giving clear instructions on the performance and benefits of each posture; giving a brief outline of any contraindication to the posture; adapting the posture to class members who are less fit or providing an alternative for a class member for whom the posture may be contra indicated; providing a more advanced version of the posture for class members who are more fit; interacting with class members so as to guide and offer feedback in a friendly and helpful way.

Yoga Nutritional Programme

The yoga nutritional programme puts great emphasis on fresh live foods and can be adapted to vegetarian and non vegetarian alike.

Yoga Breathing

Breath is central to life itself and plays a key role in yoga postures. It serves to increase the pressure in yoga postures and helps focus the life energy to the various chakras. Yoga breathing leads to increased aerobic capacity and slows down the rate of breathing. The purpose of yoga breathing is to store prana or life energy in the body.

Relaxation

This section of the course covers physical and mental relaxation; Understanding stress; Guiding a class into relaxation; Explaining yoga mind training exercises.

Yoga Philosophy - becoming a Yogi oneself

The word yoga means to yoke or to join, the joining involved being with life, the life energy that underlies all things. To be a yogi means to join with life so that life force can flow through the body and the mind and out into the world to bring about transformation and positive change.

In traditional yoga philosophy the first step along the path of yoga is to learn to control the mind. Breathing and exercises (Hatha yoga) were taught as an aid to learn to focus the mind. Unfortunately, in the process of bringing yoga into the modern world, the whole purpose of yoga is often obscured and it is simply seen as breathing and exercises.

The philosophy and meditation section of the course is based on traditional raja yoga philosophy and meditation practice, with the addition of the latest psychological research into mind technology and mindfulness.

This section of the course covers:- Learning to experience the flow of energy. Flowing

energy through the hands and during yoga exercises- The difference between the programmed self (referred to

in yoga as the lower self) and the true self (the higher self). Understanding how the programmed self is formed and how the programmes can be changed

- Learning to access and influence the unconscious mind through relaxation, visualisation, mantra and mind training exercises

- How to develop “one-pointedness”, totally focus the mind- Being in the now, entering the flow of life- Meditation, increased awareness- The philosophy of right action (dharma yoga).

Tony Quinn and Yoga

Tony Quinn from an early age was fascinated with the capacity of the yogis to concentrate awareness, and bring about healing in another person.

Studying yoga, including the practice of yoga exercises (for the performance of which he won the Maxalding Gold medal), he later spent many months meditating on a mountain top in Africa.

His persistence paid off and one day he experienced the state of yoga:-

“... as I was sitting there, it was like a veil lifted from my eyes and I suddenly began to see what is. I felt the energy all around me and I could see the life coming from the plants, the bushes, the grass. I felt part of everything, totally joined to life.”

Once he had experienced this state of yoga, often described in books, but rarely experienced, he was determined to share this understanding with as many people as possible. Returning to Ireland, he initially called his system “Self Realisation Yoga”. His classes were so successful that they soon spread all over the country, and with it the demand for teachers of his system.

Amanda Mitchell Yoga Teacher Dublin 2

“The Yoga Teacher Training Course is just incredible. It has given me a true insight into how to live life outside of my head. We all know the lyrics ‘Life is what happens when we are busy making other plans’, I knew what they meant, but

it’s only through the course that I really learned to quieten my mind.

It continues to be a daily practice. At this time of global change there is huge stress on individuals. Every class I teach, I learn something new, I benefit just as much as the student. If you are not sure about this course, do it anyway; it’s a win win for you!”

WHAT OUR GRADUATES SAY

Jana Poslusna, Chartered Physiotherapist, Yoga and Pilates teacher

“I had been doing yoga for many years but it was only after taking part in this course that I got an understanding of what yoga is really about. The style of teaching was warm with a depth of experience and insight. It was a great combination of practice, theory, anatomy and philosophy.

I am really glad I did this course, as I use it in my physiotherapy and pilates practice. I love passing on all this information to other people, sharing some of this great yoga feeling, experience and knowledge.”

Jana’s site: www.naasyoga.com

Lidwien van Elk (Yoga and Pilates teacher)

“The yoga teacher course is a real in-depth course about the philosophy and practical aspects of yoga and how to incorporate this in modern day life. Apart from gaining a great insight of what yoga is all about, a lot of emphasis is on how to gain confidence to speak in front of a group and how to teach people accordingly.

During this course you will learn even more about yourself and how to enrich other peoples’ lives in a holistic way. You will feel yourself getting stronger physically and mentally.

Even though I already had some experience in teaching movement, this course gave me extra confidence and ability to construct great classes and workshops. It also gave me an insight on how to incorporate yoga in my own fusion classes, which is one of the popular classes I teach at the moment.” (Facebook: BodySynergy with Lidwien)

DR. TONY QUINN, COURSE CONSULTANTDr. Tony Quinn is Director of Studies and Consultant to all our Diploma courses. In Ireland he has been the leading figure in holistic medicine for many years, having originated leading holistic therapies available in Ireland today. These include Ki Massage Therapy, and Successful Living Therapy. He was awarded a Master of Science degree in psychotherapy for his work in pain control.

He gained international recognition for helping the Irish boxer Steve Collins to win the world Super Middleweight boxing title, using his Educo new mind technology system. Educo, derived from the Latin educo meaning to draw out from within, maintains that inside each of us there is a basic

person whose potential needs to be drawn out and expressed.

In the best-selling book, “The Secret”, Dr. Tony Quinn is noted for his vital role in the discovery of oil in Belize. The geologists who discovered the oil point out that they believe the reason they found oil, where 50 other large-scale operations had failed, was due to mind training received from Tony.

Indeed, Tony has enjoyed remarkable success in the field of business. To date he has had an input into a few hundred successful businesses at different levels. Using over 100 of these businesses he conducted a study with East London University over 3 years. On average after 3 years the turnover of these businesses had increased by 360%. A further university study showed that 270 people tracked over 3 years after attending his seminars had increased their income by 264%. Conclusive proof indeed that his methods work.

Tony currently makes available two-week-long residential seminars in his system for those wishing to apply the Educo mind technology to use more of the mind in the areas of success, health, business, self and life improvement, education, and becoming holistic people - in short, every aspect of their lives.

Tony was awarded the Maxalding Gold medal for the performance of yoga exercises at the age of nineteen. In 1971 he introduced Yoga to Ireland and it immediately became very popular. In 1976 he set up his first health store in Eccles Street. Since then these have expanded throughout the country.

As a weight-training enthusiast he won twelve major bodybuilding titles in Ireland including Mr. Ireland, Ireland’s Best Physique, All-Ireland Mr. Health and Strength and Mr. Health Culture. Based on his extensive knowledge of training, nutrition, motivation and mental focus he developed the Educogym machine and training system and set up the Educogym franchise worldwide. He also originated the Ki Exercise system, a form of exercise similar to Tai Chi or moving yoga. He founded the Irish Health Culture Association and the Irish Association of Holistic Medicine. Having lived and worked in Ireland for many years he now lives abroad and works for these organisations in Ireland on a consultancy basis.

Dr. Tony Quinn’s QualificationsDegrees:• Doctor of Clinical Hypnotherapy, Authorized by the State of California.• Master of Science Degree in Psychotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Clinical Hypnosis, University of East London.Diplomas:• Hypnotist• Hypnotherapy• Master Hypnotist• Healing and Pain ControlAll four Approved by the State of California.• British Hypnosis Research Diploma in Ericksonian Hypnosis, Psychotherapy & Neuro-Linguistic Programming. EDUCO What Dr. Tony Quinn has to say about his Educo system.

“As far back as I can remember I was always interested in the power of the mind, always feeling that it held the key to us getting the most out of ourselves and from life. The essence of Educo is that the basic person can be drawn out and experienced in its true form, thereby fulfilling the true purpose of education – Self-Realisation. This Self is the most sensitive and alive part of us – our life and energy source. More than in any other field, this uncovering of the Self is

vital in Holistic Medicine, in that this spiritual dimension is the very essence of what makes holistic medicine truly holistic, regardless of what specific modality is used: massage, yoga, nutrition, etc.Recent psychological research is showing more and more the vital importance of spirit and self expression not only in the healing process but as one of the main factors in what keeps people whole and healthy, which of course is the domain of preventive medicine.”
