You are also encouraged to review the School Performance Fact Sheet, which must be provided to you prior to signing an enrollment agreement ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Pursuant to Section 71770 of the California Educational Code, Admissions Standards require that every student submit proof of completion of high school or GED equivalency at the time of request- ing admission to any of our programs. A copy of said proof must remain on file with this school. The admission test measures the candidates’ ability to transfer concepts and messages from English into Spanish and Spanish into English. It also measures formal education in both language. This admission test has been used by our institution for the past 18 years and it has been an accurate tool to measure the minimum requirements to participate in any of our interpreting programs. CANCELLATION, WHITHDRAWALS AND REFUND POLICY A student admitted into any of our programs has the right to cancel the enrollment agreement and obtain a refund of charges paid through attendance, at the first class session or the seventh day after enrollment, whichever is later. The student must submit this request on the school website, through the Student Services Menu at www.interpreting.com/refunds.htm. Students may withdraw at any time from our institution. There is a $100 non-refundable registration fee and $50 non-returnable materials fee . Assuming that you paid $545 for a course, the amount of refund is calculated as follows: before lecture 1: $545.00 before lecture 2: $359.10* before lecture 3: $323.20* before lecture 4: $287.30* before lecture 5: $251.40* before lecture 6: $215.50* after lecture 6: No refund applies * Includes $150 non-refundable registration and materials fee. SCHOOL POLICIES Students who copy material, by use of any media, or who are disrespectful to other fellow students and/or school staff, will be placed on probation for six months for the first incident, and will be expelled for any subsequent incident. Students have the right to appeal any decision by requesting a meeting with the Director of Education. Any student grievances should be directed in writing to the school Administration, and you may request a meeting with the Director of Education, if your complaint is not satisfactorily resolved. Students are advised that attendance below 70% of total lecture time will not be sufficient to pass a course. Due to intensive interpreting practicum included and required to pass each course, any student who leaves the program for more than one year, will be required to register as a new student. The Southern California School of Interpretation does not participate in any type of federal and/or state financial aid programs. Our institution does not provide students with any type of loan to pay for tuition. All of our onsite courses are taught in our campus classrooms, which include an interpreting laboratory for class monitoring and practice. Class manuals provided. All registered students have access to our online interpreting lab. Student records are kept in our main campus for 5 years. 2 3 STUDENT TUITION RECOVERY FUND (STRF) The Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) was estab- lished by the legislature to protect any California resident who attends a private postsecondary institution; from losing money if he/she prepaid tuition and suffers a financial loss as a result of the school closing, failing to live up to its en- rollment agreement, or refusing to pay a court judgment. To be eligible for STRF, you must be a California resident and reside in California at the time the enrollment agreement is signed or when you receive lessons at a California mailing address or from an approved institution offering correspon- dence instruction. Students who are temporarily residing in California are not considered California residents for this purpose. STRF fees are not refundable. To qualify for STRF reimbursement , you must file a STRF application within one year of receiving notice from the Bureau that the school is closed. If you do not receive no- tice from the Bureau, you have four years from the date of closure to file a STRF application. If a judgment is obtained you must file a STRF application within two years of the final judgment. It is important that you keep copies of your enrollment agreement, receipts or any other information that documents the monies paid to the school. If a student obtains a loan to pay for an educational program, the student will have the responsibility to repay the full amount of the loan plus interest, less the amount of any refund, and if the student has received federal student financial aid funds, the student is entitled to a refund of the moneys not paid from federal student financial aid program funds. POLICY REGARDING ACCEPTANCE OF CREDITS EARNED AT OTHER INSTITUTIONS We do not accept any credits earned at other institutions. How- ever, any student who has completed an interpreting program in any other institution qualifies to challenge any course at our school. There is no fee for challenging any course. To challenge any course, the student has to submit proof of completion of any interpreting program from any other institution. The challenging exam consists of a written and an oral component based on the course syllabus for that course. The student will be notified of the scores right after the exam ends.
